Spirit-Directed Reiki Attunements
Overview
The Spirit-Directed Reiki Attunement Method is a universal method for
giving and receiving Reiki attunements and other energy initiations that is
effective and easy. It does not require any sort of "special power" on the
part of the Reiki Master.
In fact, if you are not a Reiki Master yourself, you can still share
attunements using this method, because the method does not require an
energetically advanced teacher. If you want to self-attune yourself to any
Reiki system, you can use this method.
his method can be done in-person or via distance. The beauty of this
method is that it alleviates any concerns about a karmic tie between teacher
and student. he attunement is ultimately given by !od"#ource.
herefore, anyone can share Reiki attunements with this method, safely,
and students can use this method to receive any Reiki attunement they
wish, without the intervention of a Reiki Master.
(Note: Please use whatever language you feel the most comfortable with to
refer to God/Source for the sake of brevity! we"ll mostly use the term #God#
in this manual.$
In no way is this manual written for the purpose of trying to deny the great
contribution made by Reiki Masters, past, present or future. raditional
attunement methods can be very powerful, and you are encouraged to use
them if they work for you.

his method is designed to be simply another tool for your Reiki toolkit. It
can supplement your e$isting Reiki attunement methods - it does not need
to replace them.
Countering Reiki Criticism and Concerns
%ne benefit of the #elf-&irected Reiki 'ttunement Method is that it can
alleviate concerns based on the "dire warnings" posted online by some
well-meaning healers who have apparently had some bad e$periences with
a few Reiki teachers.
hese vocal Reiki critics on the Internet have been decrying Reiki because
they believe the energy becomes "dirty" when passed from teacher to
student during Reiki attunements. hey claim that Reiki is filled with
"(unk" and "bad karma" passed down through lineages.
his is not how Reiki works - and if such "(unk" is being passed down, then
maybe it is through some sort of add-on practice that is not Reiki. #till, such
concerns can scare a lot of people off of Reiki for good.
)hile you do not need to use this method each time you attune a student, if
you do have a potential student come to you and e$press concerns about
"dirty" Reiki energy attunements, you can offer them the #elf-&irected
Reiki 'ttunement Method and assure them the energy comes directly from
!od without any "middleman" in the way.


Psychic Protection and Spiritual Saety
*ow, while Reiki energies are safe, it is possible that the reason some
people have had bad e$periences with Reiki is not because of Reiki, but
because of negative entities. *egative entities like to attack healers
especially and if you are not careful with your spiritual "connections," you
could unwittingly open yourself to an attachment from a spirit with
negative intentions.
his is most likely to happen if you try to connect with random "spirit
guides" without checking them first for safety. he #pirit-&irected Reiki
'ttunement Method connects you directly with !od - you simply cannot get
better psychic protection than !od.
!ringing Reiki to All
'nother criticism of Reiki Masters is that they might be driven too much by
money instead of sharing energies freely. his is probably not the case with
the ma(ority of Reiki Masters - most work very hard and it takes a lot of
time and energy to write manuals, educate students, answer email
questions +for free,, and the like.
%riginally, Reiki Master attunements in 'merica could cost -./,/// or
more0 )e1ve come a long way from that0 #till, there is something to be said
for the idea of "democrati2ing" Reiki attunements, so that no matter what
your financial circumstances, you can benefit from a specific energy that
you really need.


his may be controversial to say, but by using the #elf-&irected Reiki
'ttunement Method, you could select any Reiki attunement sold online,
and attune yourself to it. his won1t give you access to the manual, the
teacher +to ask questions of,, or give you an opportunity to help support
another healer in their work by buying their Reiki attunement from them,
so it would be better to purchase the entire attunement package.
't the same time, these energies were brought in to be shared, so most
Reiki Masters should want you to be able to use the energy even if you
cannot afford it.
's long as you are not taking advantage of people, then you should be fine.
"aking advantage of" would be something along the lines of taking
energies that other people worked hard to bring in and write manuals for,
and then reselling the energy as your own without attribution.
"ow# how could empowering people to give themselves Reiki
attunements help Reiki Masters$ Many Reiki Masters are overloaded and
the #pirit-&irected Reiki 'ttunement Method can help those who have
more requests for attunements than they can handle.
3or one thing, it makes sending attunements faster and easier +since you
can do a group of them at once,. It may be that some Reiki Masters will
decide to offer a "manual only" option for their Reiki systems and provide
this instruction on the #pirit-&irected Reiki 'ttunement Method, so that
those students who need to save money can choose to self-attune.


The "eed or Reiki Masters
*ow, you may ask yourself4 )hy do we need Reiki Masters at all if any
attunement can be received by self-attunement alone, directly from !od5
It is the same answer that you might give to someone who asks why should
we pray for other people.
)ithout getting into an e$tended philosophical discussion about what !od
actually is +theistic vs. pantheistic,, let us presume that "!od" is still very
much bigger than each of us is individually.
!od could conceivably heal everyone instantaneously, and answer every
individual prayer or healing request, and yet we find that prayer and
healing often works best when more than one person participates in it.
!od seems to want us to partner with #pirit when it comes to healing and
helping one another. 6ertainly, !od can and will directly heal someone
without the prayer intervention of another, and we can often make
tremendous progress on our own with our own positive attitudes and
intentions.
7ut for whatever the reason - it is not fully understood - having someone
else contribute their own prayers, positive intentions, and healing often
makes a huge difference.
It may be that a person who is disconnected from !od on some level needs
another human to help bridge that gap to !od. his is what prayer and
healing does for others.


3inally, Reiki Masters spend a lot of time studying healing and working
with people. he e$perienced ones often double as counselors of sorts.
hey can help answer your questions, guide you to the energies that might
best help you, and help you with your healing. Reiki Masters are invaluable
and offer much more than (ust Reiki attunements.
&oing self-study can be quite rewarding and in some cases, the only way
someone can learn Reiki. 3or people in remote areas, or in countries where
Reiki might be frowned upon, self-study via the Internet is essential.
#till, if you have an opportunity to work with an e$perienced Reiki Master,
you should consider taking it. hat person may have a lot to teach you.


Spirit-Directed Reiki Attunement Method Directions
%ne of the great things about the #pirit-&irected Reiki 'ttunement Method
is that you can personali2e this approach in any number of ways to make it
your own. )hile it is created upon a basic, 8-step framework, in each step
of the process, you can put your own "spin" on things to make it unique to
you. 9ou are encouraged to customi2e this process to make your own, but
please make sure you do all 8 steps, and in order.
his method works whether the teacher is with the student, or the
attunement is being done via a distance. his method also works as a
complete self-attunement method that does not require a Reiki Master to
work. #imply follow the steps below.
The steps are e%actly the same whether the attunement is perormed
alone as a sel-attunement# in-person with a Reiki Master# or &y a Reiki
Master over a distance'
he only difference between a self-attunement and a distant attunement is
that the Reiki Master adds additional healing intention and energy to the
process. 3or an in-person attunement, the Reiki Master will guide the
student through the process.

receive attunements using this process' !ut you can also send an
attunement -via .distance./ using this process# and have the student

The Steps
*or in-person attunements, 7oth teacher and student can perform the
following steps together, with the Reiki Master as the guide.
*or distance atttunements, eacher and student can perform the
following steps at an agreed upon time, but this is entirely optional. he
student can receive the attunement on his"her own, at any time! even before
the teacher actually sends the attunement in #real time.# his is because time
and space are ultimately illusions.
&uring this process, the student should get comfortable - either sitting in a
chair or lying down. 'dvanced meditation positions +such as :apanese
kneeling, should only be used by students who are e$perienced and can sit
in such a position for a long time.
Preparation, ;rior to the attunement, if possible, it is best for the student
to receive some sort of healing. raditionally, a full Reiki healing was
performed within one week of the attunement.
3or self-attunements, self-healings can be performed. <owever,
"preparation" can consist of anything that puts the attunement recipient in
a good frame of mind for the Reiki attunement. his could include
anything from a mini-vacation to e$ercise to a creative outlet such as
painting or music.
3ind a quiet place to have the attunement. 9ou might want to do this
outside in nature, or if inside, light candles and create a sacred space.


Step 1, Meditation
o prepare for the attunement, start with meditation to center and clear
the mind. he minimum time recommend is 8 minutes, but ./-=/ minutes
is ideal. 3or those highly e$perienced in meditation, a half-hour or more is
fine.
here are many different forms of meditation. 9ou are welcome to choose a
form of meditation that you gravitate towards. %therwise, use the
following simple breath meditation4

9ou can use a phrase or mantra that you repeat in your mind as your
count. 3or e$ample4

eachers should be mindful as to the level of meditation e$perience of their
students. 3or students who are new to meditation, shorter times and"or
guided meditations should probably be used. ;lease see the ne$t section for
a sample guided meditation.


Step 2, (nvocation
his is a crucial, critical point of the process. In many typical Reiki
attunements, attunements are sent through the Reiki Master to the student.
's mentioned above, some healers have e$pressed concern that this can
contaminate the aura of the student with "baggage" from the teacher.
)hile this is debatable, it is an easy problem to solve.
here is no need for the attunement energy to pass through the teacher to
the student whatsoever. he attunement energy is simply to be given
directly by !od. he teacher is there to help guide the process and provide
an energetic space for the student.
hus, the purpose of the invocation is to connect with !od"#ource to ask for
the attunement.
9ou can craft any sort of invocation that you like for #tep =. here are three
important key points about the Invocation4
., 6onnect with !od
b, (%&tional$ 'sk for the presence of any angels or ascended masters
who may be associated with the attunement
=, 'sk for the Reiki attunement
?, >$press gratitude for the attunement
It is recommended that you check with your student as to the type of
language they would prefer when referencing !od.


3or e$ample, some might feel put off by the standard term "!od," but on
the same token, "!oddess" might not resonate with some students either.
!reat #pirit"#ource"'ll-hat-Is"9ahweh"3ather-Mother-!od"'bba"7rahama
are a few e$amples of references to !od.
+*ote4 ry not to use the impersonal term "he @niverse." hat is actually
not invoking !od but a geographical location. here is probably more than
one "@niverse," first of all, but you will get much more power by invoking
an official name of !od.,
'fter invoking !od, then if you wish to ask for the presence of an angel,
spirit guide, or ascended master to help +especially if the Reiki attunement
is connected with that being,, you can do that. Make sure you connect to
!od first. his makes the connection safe.
<ere is an e$ample short invocation4

<ere is an invocation using a #ikh mantra +in !urmukhi, written by !uru

Step ;, Reception
'ppro$imately ./-=/ minutes. &uring this time, the student receives the
attunement. If the attunement is being given with a Reiki Master, this is the
time for the Reiki Master to return to meditation in a receptive state. he
Reiki Master may also end up being re-attuned at this time. he Reiki
Master does not need to do anything specific during #tep ? unless guided.
Step <, (ntegration
'ttunements can be physically and emotionally ta$ing. &uring the period
of integration, grounding techniques should be used to help bring the
student back to "reality." <ere are a few ideas4
., &rink a glass of water +ideally blessed or charged with Reiki or a flower
essence,.
=, >at a piece of fruit - bananas are good.
?, !et up, stretch, walk around, and move the body a little bit.
C, !o outside and interact with nature - e.g,. place both hands on a tree
trunk.


Step =, Closing
he closing can be as simple as a thank you to !od. he Reiki Master might
choose this time to present a certificate to the client. If you are a student
receiving a distant attunement, you might want to mark your closing time
with anything that is meaningful to you. his could be anything from a
special sacred dance to writing in your (ournal.

Can ( use this method to send or receive multiple attunements$
9es. If you are a Reiki Master and sending attunements via distance, you
can go through the process once and during the invocation step, simply
repeat the request for each attunement and"or student.

3or busy Reiki Masters doing a lot of distance Reiki attunements +especially
if you are offering them for free,, this can be a lifesaver. 9ou can set a time
for yourself each day or week to meditate and work on attunements.
Remember, your students can still pick up these attunements like "chi
balls" rather than using the 8-step process. he 8-step process is
recommended, but when giving a large group of people of free distance
Reiki attunements, it can be difficult to direct everyone on a new way of
receiving an attunement. &o not worry about how they will receive the
attunements in these cases.
*or students, If you are a student receiving attunements, you can choose
to receive multiple attunements at once. 7e careful, however, about
overloading yourself with too much at the same time. It is recommended to
not do more than one attunement at a time and take a break +of days,
weeks or months, between attunements depending on your personal
energetic comfort level.
<owever, if you would like to receive more than one attunement at a time,
you can do so easily. 3or e$ample4

*o, you do not need to mention your Reiki Master when receiving your
attunement, and it would be better if you did not. his mitigates any
potential karmic ties.


Are there any lineages with the Spirit-Directed Reiki Attunement
Method$
*o, and apologies if the following is controversial, but it1s high-time that
lineages were done away with in Reiki. Reiki attunements come from !od.
9ou do not need a lineage to prove you have any Reiki power.
( ( send an attunement using this method# &ut the student .picks up.
the energy like they might receive a .chi &all#. do we have to
coordinate attunement times$
9ou can if you want to, but you don1t have to. 9ou can also send the
attunement after the student has "picked it up" - because attunements are
not bound by space or time. &on1t ask how it works - it (ust does.
Are these attunements really not &ound &y time$
hey are not. 9ou do not need to set aside a specific time for your student
to receive your attunement. 9our student does not need to wait for you to
send the attunement first. he student can receive the attunement
immediately, and the Reiki Master +if doing a distance attunement, can
perform the attunement process later. 9ou don1t need to know why it
works. It (ust works.
Can ( resell Reiki attunements that ( have received as a
sel-attunement using the Spirit-Directed Reiki Attunement Method$
I would not recommend this out of respect to the Reiki Master who
originally provided the Reiki attunement, unless they have specifically
given their manual away for free and encourage people to resell the
attunement.


%therwise, if you would like to resell an attunement, you should get the
Reiki attunement the traditional way, from the original Reiki Master who
brought in the energy, or via a direct lineage back to the original Reiki
Master through your Reiki Master.
Can the Spirit-Directed Reiki Attunement Method &e used to &ring in
other non-Reiki energies or initiations$
#ure, why not5 !od is ultimately doing the initiating. his should work
with any type of healing energy that works on attunement activation.

9ou sure can, because, once again. !od is ultimately doing the initiating.

5elp? (0m not eeling anything?
)hether or not a Reiki student works with a Reiki Master or receives a
self-attunement, a common complaint +even with traditional attunements,
is "I1m not feeling anything."
Reiki energies can be very subtle. &on1t e$pect a whi2-bang enlightenment
e$perience every time. he energy may feel like a very faint feeling of
lightness. It could appear in the body like a slight warmth or tingling in the
head or chest area. 9ou may simply feel more e$panded and aware.
>ach attunement will also feel very different. #ometimes, you will not feel
the energy strongly, because it1s not an energy you personally need for
your deep energetic clearing. #ometimes we feel things more when "stuck"
stuff is cleared out.


'lternatively, on rarer occasions, you don1t feel anything because you are
resisting the energy unconsciously. 3or these cases, it might be good to get
assistance from a Reiki Master. 9ou may need more healing done before
getting additional attunements.
:hat i ( didn0t get any results ater a sel-attunement$
his is for those cases where you seem to get better results with a Reiki
Master. #elf-attunements most definitely work, and may be all you need to
access Reiki energies. <owever, if you are performing self-attunements
and not getting the results you want, you may need to get the help of a
Reiki Master +or even (ust a friend, to "bridge that gap" for you.
#ometimes, though, it1s really (ust as simple as the "placebo effect." In your
mind, you have ascribed the Reiki Master with certain powers, and so you
feel more when you have a Reiki Master helping you. Remember, though,
no-one has more power than !od0
3irst, try to re-attune yourself to see if that helps it kick in more. If self
re-attunements don1t seem to budge things, then get some help from
another healer.

If possible, get a healing before the attunement, or do something to nurture
yourself before the attunement. 3ind a quiet place to receive the
attunement.

Sample 3uided Meditation
;lease make yourself comfortable. 6lose your eyes, and take a few, long,
deep breaths in and out. 7reathe deeply. 7reathe in light and breathe out
any resistance, any feelings of being stuck, any negative emotions. 7reathe
in light. 7reathe out and let go. 7reathe in light. 7reathe out and let go.
Imagine a golden sphere of sparkling energy surrounding you, like a
bubble, from head to toe. 7reathe deeply. 7reathe in this golden energy as
it bathes your body. 's you breathe out, imagine that any remaining stuck
energy, any negative energy that you do not want, is e$iting your body
through the soles of your feet. 3rom there, the energy goes safely down
into Mother >arth, where it is transmuted and cleansed into positive
healing energy.
*ow imagine that fresh, new, healing Reiki energy is coming in through
the top of your head. Reiki energy is entering into the crown of your head.
's it slowly seeps down into your body, you feel a gentle, warm tingling.
*e$t, the Reiki energy enters in through your third eye, that space (ust
above your eyes in the middle of your forehead, opening up your intuition.
*ow the warm, loving Reiki energy enters your throat chakra, gently
clearing out any blocks to your e$pression and creativity.
's you take another deep breath, the Reiki energy enters into your heart.
<ere, positive, golden energy is removing any stuck energy, any old hurts,
any heartaches, and releasing them gently to the light.


*ow the Reiki energy moves into your solar ple$us, the area (ust below
your heart, giving you strength and personal power. 3rom there, the Reiki
healing energy enters your stomach area, clearing out any blocks to
emotional and se$ual e$pression.
3inally, Reiki energy enters into your first chakra, strengthening your first
chakra, and opening you up to prosperity and abundance on all levels.
*ow take three deep breaths. 7reathe in this powerful Reiki energy, and
breathe out any last, remaining pieces of stuck energy. %bserve the stuck
energy finally move, down down down, through your feet and into Mother
>arth, where it is cleansed and transmuted into positive healing energy
that helps the planet.
#ee the golden ball of energy around you. 3eel the warm, tingling energy,
and watch this ball of loving light e$pand and grow until it envelopes your
home, your town, your state, your country, the planet earth, our solar
system, and the entire universe.
6ontinuing to breathe in and out silently for a few minutes as you allow
the light to surround you.
