Introduction v

Introduction
The students of the University of North Texas have many options as to where they can get their
coffee. There are numerous places off campus they can go, but which is the best? A student-
friendly coffee house will offer more than just some good coffee; they will also offer a place of
serenity and more. My group has chosen to investigate three off-campus coffee houses, all within
a five-mile radius from the school. The chosen coffee houses were Big Mikes Coffee, Caf
Brazil, and J upiter House.

Methods 1
Methods
In search of the best student-friendly coffee house, we visited each one between 8:00-9:00 am on
weekdays. We rated the coffee houses using the following criteria:
Prices: We based the price off of a 12 oz. regular coffee. We rated each coffee house on a
scale of 1 to 6. Where 1 represented the most expensive and 6 representing the least.
Quality: We based the quality of the coffee on freshness. We rated each coffee house on
a scale of 1 to. Where 1 represented the stalest coffee and 6 represented the freshest.
Varieties: We based the variety of the coffee house on the different choices they had to
offer. We rated each coffee house on a scale of 1 to 6. Where 1 represented the one with
the least amount of options to choose from and 6 represented the one with the most.
Hours of Operation: We based the hours of operation on how many hours the coffee
house stayed open. We rated each coffee house on a scale of 1 to 6.1 representing the one
with the shortest hours of operation and 6 representing the one with the longest hours of
operations.
Service: We based the service off of the customer service of the employees. We rated
each coffee house on a scale of 1 to 6. 1 representing the one with the worse customer
service and 6 being the one with the best customer service.
Atmosphere: We based the atmosphere off of how student-friendly the coffee house is.
By student-friendly we mean: cleanliness, lighting, and noise level of each coffee house.
We rated each coffee house on a scale of 1 to 6. 1 being the one thats least student-
friendly and 6 being the one thats most student-friendly.
We determined the overall rating by averaging all the sections.

Conclusions and Recommendations 5
Conclusions
We traveled throughout town to
experience different coffee houses
and evaluate them with our criteria.
Our criteria focused mainly on three
factors: taste, price, and the number
of choices. Big Mikes, the poorest of
the three choices, contained an insect
on the coffee cup. Regardless of what
they may have provided or served,
they failed due to the fact that there
was an insect. Starbucks was a great
choice with a few options and
excellent customer service. However,
Starbuckss high prices deterred us
from awarding the business our best
rating. The third of our choices that
we reviewed was a quaint little coffee
house by the name of Caf Brazil.
This coffee house offered not only a
plethora of choices, but also allowed
the consumer a bottomless cup, eliminating any daunting thoughts of high prices. In short,
experiencing the Denton coffee scene was fun. If we had to recommend a coffee house, Caf
Brazil would definitely be the one. It is a simple, down-to-earth place with great customer
service and a student-friendly environment.

Recommendations
Based on our results, we would recommend going to Caf Brazil. Although they didnt receive
the highest average ratings out of the three coffee houses that we visited, they were more
student-friendly than the others. For a good place to study and get great coffee, visit Caf Brazil.
