THE HOLOCAUST
The holocaust caused the death of 6
million Jews over the course of five years
(1940-1945).

An estimated 1.1 million children were
murdered during this period.

People were treated like scum. The Nazis
treated dogs better than the people in
camps.

Jews were cramped into ghettos and
shipped by trains, without air (most fainted,
some died) to camps to be worked to
death.

WHO AND WHAT WAS THE GOAL
OF THE OPPOSITION
The people in charge of this genocide were the Nazis. The Nazis were
members of the socialist workers party of Germany.
They were considered the master race. This meant that everyone had to be
the same. Blonde hair, blue eyes and white.
In addition you had to be heterosexual and be different in any way. Nothing
different. No eccentric way of life. Every one had to be the same.
This meant that everyone who was different, had to go. Therefore the gays,
Jews or anyone that they didnt like ended up in concentration camps.
The Nazis wanted to purify the population resulting in a massive amount of
murder.
WHERE DID THIS TAKE PLACE
This genocide took
place in Europe
from 1933-1945

Many camps
where built. Some
made especially
for killing

RWANDA GENOCIDE
The 100 day genocide that killed over 800 000 people

Most were killed by hand with a machete or other handheld wepons
RWANDA GENOCIDE
People mostly killed by machete or tortured
800,000-1,000,000 people died
97 % of youth in Rwanda have seen someone
being murdered
It started after a civil war in 1988, but the spark
was a plane crash that killed the presidents of
Burundi and Rwanda in 1994
The Hutus started to kill the Tutsis and within a
hundred days almost a million were dead.

WHO WAS KILLING AND WHY
The fight was between the Tutsis and the Hutu.
The Hutus thought the Tutsis were inferior to them and had to be killed
The radio was used to spread the word to Hutus that the Tutsis had to be
exterminated.
WHERE DID THIS GENOCIDE TAKE
PLACE
Rwanda is in east
Africa

Surrounding Rwanda
is the Congo, Burundi
and Tanzania.
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS IN
CANADA
CANADIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS
The Canadian government thought that
aboriginal people were not human.
Therefore they thought that adults were to
late to change but children still had a
chance to be normal
They had to try and kill the Indian in the
child
Consequently there were put in schools were
they were beat and treated like scum, many
died

WHAT THE OPPOSITION DID
Some children were used for
experiments
The children were forced to learn
English, be Christian and adapt to a
completely different way of living
If they were caught speak their native
tongue or practicing any native rituals
they would be severely punished

WHEN AND WHERE DI THIS TAKE
PLACE
In 1931 there were about
180 schools per province.
The last one to close was
in 1996

Most schools were in the
center of canada

SURVIVOR STORIES
http://www.holocaustsurvivors.org/recordings/galler04.mp3

This is the story of a woman who survived a death train. These trains were
sent to death camps filled with Jews. They had one purpose, to kill.

Here is the story of Canadian residential school survivors

WHAT DO ALL THESE GENOCIDES
HAVE IN COMMON
The thing in common with these
acts against humanity is that
one group of people wants to
get rid of a race.
Someone wants to exterminate,
kill off, get rid of, one race just
because their not like them
Sadly this happens more often
than we would like it

WHAT CAN WE DO
We can help stop genocides by using what we
have, doing what we and go from there
If we communicate with one another we will
know each other better. We are all human
beings
We all feel the same things, we all can see the
same things
All around the world we are human, no
difference between us
We are no different
