Bad Donkey Case Competition
Myself and 2 other students had the opportunity to work with a local business in the Madison area. Bad Donkey is a
company that will be launching a new innovative social network and messaging app that will allow users to visually express
and share their everyday thoughts and experiences beyond words alone. Our job was to help them out with their pricing and
marketing strategy. We suggested a Freemium pricing strategy (service is free with an option of paying for advanced
features). Next we focused on the customer engagement portion of marketing strategy. An example of a premium feature the
app offers is an official brand emoticon (ie. Starbucks). They partner with different companies to gain rights to these images
and sell them for the consumers to use on the app. They wanted to know what they should do to motivate people to buy these
specific brands. Our suggestion: Each time the brand emoticon is used, it should link to something driving customer
engagement. That could include revealing secrets for their recipies, humanizing the brand with a video of the CEO,
educating the brand about processes, simple appreciation coupons, and the social aspect of sharing the same experience with
other consumers. Overall it was a fun learning opportunity where I was able to get experience in developing plans under a
time crunch with limited resources.
