When unpacking your machine, please check t hat all part s show n

Before you st art t o use your fax machine,
please remove all t ransport fit t ings as
illust rat ed.
Insert process unit :
In order t o t ransport or move
t he machine t he t oner pack and
t he process unit has t o be
removed.
When inst alling t he machine for t he first t ime
and lat er w hen CHANGE PROC. UNIT is
displayed, insert t he new process unit as
decribed below.
Open t he cont rol panel and housing
cover as illust rat ed.
1. The fixer cleaner
This is insert ed w hen inst alling your machine
for t he first t ime and each t ime t he process
unit is replaced:
Open t he cont rol panel cover t o t he front . Slide
t he cleaner underneat h t o t he right , lift and
remove.
Insert t he new cleaner first on t he right , t hen
press dow n firmly on t he left .
2. Prepare t he process unit
Place a sheet of paper on an even surface and
lay t he process unit on t his. Remove t he seal.
When holding t he prot ect ive foil, be sure t o
avoid cont act w it h any t oner.
The print volume achieved w it h t he
first filling of t he t oner cart ridge is less
t han t hat achieved w it h subsequent
fillings.

several t imes side t o side t o ensure even
spread of t oner...
... insert t he process unit
First slide t he green lock lever on t he inside left
of t he machine t o t he back. The process unit is
t hen insert ed w it h it s pins int o t he lat eral
guides and placed exact ly in posit ion by
applying slight pressure dow nw ards.
Now pull t he lock lever forw ard again.
Then close t he t op cover and t he cont rol panel
cover again.
Now (re)connect your fax machine t o t he
socket .
A damaged drum w ill affect t he copy
qualit y. Therefore: Never t ouch t he
drum surface or expose t he drum t o
sunlight .
To make a good
impression:
a new t oner cart ridge
Aft er print ing many pages, TONER NEAR
EM PTY and lat er TONER EM PTY appear
on t he display. This means you must
insert a new t oner cart ridge in your fax
machine:
Open t he t op cover.
Don t forget : First remove t he mains plug from
t he socket .
To replace t oner:
Slide t he green lock lever on t he left side of t he
machine t o t he back and remove t he process
unit .
Place t he process unit on a piece of paper on
an even surface. Light ly t ap on t he t oner
cart ridge t o prevent any t oner residue falling
int o t he process unit . Pull t he t ape on t he t he
t oner cart ridge upw ards before you slide it out
of ist holder.
First shake t he new cart ridge...
... t hen place on t op of t he process unit and
slide it unt il it locks int o place.

You can now connect your fax machine t o t he
mains again.

Remove t he paper casset t e

Insert a st ack of A4 paper
Prepare t he recording paper by flexing and
fanning out t he st ack t o separat e t he sheet s.
Place t he paper so t hat it lies st raight in t he
casset t e w it h t he side t o be print ed face-dow n
and don t forget :
The paper casset t e holds a maximum
250 sheet s (80 g/ m

).
Then: Slide t he casset t e int o t he slot
unt il you hear it lock int o place.
Do not use damp, w rinkled or t orn
paper.

A special group of keys is used for

pulse-dialling met hod is normally used in
t he public sw it ched t elephone net w ork. If
your fax machine is connect ed t o a
PABX* , t he DTM F dialling met hod may
also be used. As t he public net w ork is
modernised, t his dialling met hod may also
be used in t he public net w ork. If you are
in any doubt , first t ry t he pulse-dialling
met hod (basic set t ing).
If t he dialling procedure fails, t ry DTM P
dialling. How ever DTM F is t he most

If your fax machine is set t o aut omat ic
recept ion (FAX, TEL/ FAX, see page 20), it
w ill sw it ch on as soon as it is called.
Under t hese circumst ances, it is t hus not
possible for t he call t o be int ercept ed by
t he t elephone.
How ever, it is possible for your fax
machine t o be set in such a w ay t hat - in
t he event of a t elephone call - it is
act ivat ed aft er a specific delay. The call
count er is used for t his purpose. You can
use t his facilit y t o set t he number of
incoming calls (max. 10) before t he fax
machine connect s t o t he line.
Memory recept ion

The advant age of t his met hod is t hat t he
document t ray is virt ually alw ays free and
t hat document s can be t ransmit t ed
almost irrespect ive of t he t ransmission or
receiving st at us of t he fax machine.
Each procedure is know n as a job. A job
may consist of one or more document s
w hich you can t ransmit t o your part ners.
A job can also be a mult i-address
t ransmission or a delayed t ransmission.
Your fax machine is able t o manage 15
such jobs. Each of t hese jobs is placed on
a st ack, from w here t hey are processed in
sequence. Your fax machine accept s jobs
even w hile it is t ransmit t ing or receiving
document s; t his means t hat t he
document t ray is alw ays ready. Wit h every
procedure, t he fax machine assigns a
reference number t o t he job; t his number

If you have connect ed a PC t o your fax
machine, you can send document s
direct ly t o your PC.
The follow ing requirement s are essent ial
for t his process:
Funct ion number 46 (receive t o PC) is
set t o ON (for set t ing, see page 55).
The fax soft w are is loaded and
act ivat ed.
The connect ion t o t he PC has been
est ablished.
The follow ing error message is displayed if
your fax machine cannot reach t he PC:
In t his case, t he incoming fax document
is print ed out on t he fax machine. The
error message does not affect t he abilit y
of t he fax machine t o receive furt her
document s.
A fax document received in t his
w ay is st ored in t he form of an
image file in t he PC. An OCR
program must process a file before any
received t ext can be int egrat ed in a w ord
processing program. This is essent ial if
t his file is t o be used as a t ext file.

3.11 t o Win 95, w e recommend t hat you
deinst all t he TOSHIBA print er driver before
t he updat e (see page 27).
