PROGRAMME: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

B.Tech in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING ( from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The
duration of the programme is four academic years, comprising of eight semesters. This Program
has 212 credits, comprises of theory, program specific and global elective, lab, project and
seminar. Each subject will have a certain number of credits assigned to it depending upon the
academic load and the nature and importance of the subject. The credit associated with each
subject will be shown in the prescribed scheme and syllabi. Each course shall have an integer
number of credits, which reflects its weight-age.
The first and second (S1&S2) semesters will be combined, the scheme and syllabi is common for
all branch of specialization with 44 credits in the first year. Third semester (S3) to seventh
semester (S7) have 6 theory subjects and two labs, totaling 28 credits per semester. In the eighth
semester five theory papers, one lab, project work and viva voce together has 28 credits.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
To create graduate and post graduate Mechanical engineers having excellence and competence in
addressing the needs in the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and allied areas at both National
and International levels with a deep commitment to serving the society for bettering the standard of
living.
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
To impart formal education in Mechanical engineering and allied areas at under graduate and post
graduate levels by integrating a variety of project experiences at every level throughout the
curriculum. They should be able to apply with confidence the knowledge in Mechanical
engineering through research in the science and technology. To share knowledge through
educational programs and the dissemination of our new discoveries. To develop linkages with
world class R&D organizations and educational institutions in India and abroad for excellence in
teaching, research, consultancy practices and entrepreneurship

Objective: -To introduce the difference between vision and mission statements for an
organization
Key points: Vision, Mission
Explanations:
A mission statement explains what the organization does, for whom and the benefit.
A vision statement, on the other hand, describes how the future will look if the organization
achieves its mission.
A mission statement should answer three key questions:

Key points: Span of control, factors affecting
Explanations:
Also called as Span of management refers to the number of the subordinates that reports to
an executive.
The number of the subordinates that an executive can supervise directly.
An executive should not have more subordinates looking to him for guidance than he can
reasonably be expected to serve because
1) The executive has limited time available.
2) He has limited available Energy.
