Northern province needed medical facilities available in the South.

Dr Ravi Perumal pillai who has expressed his ambition that the specialized observation
facilities that are available in the south must be established in the north as well. Dr R.P
Pillai is in the process of establishing a cardio surgery unit at the northern central hospital
early next year.
Jaffna is the birth place of Dr R.P Pillai and completed his education in medicine at the
Oxford university. His patriotism on the Jaffna soil the place he was born is endeavouring
to establish a heart surgery unit in Jaffna and attempts to serve the people there.
ntil now the government hospital in Jaffna has been the only option for the people of
the north. However private hospitals are now being established there. !he administration
of the northern central hospital assures that their hospital will have the most modern
facilities of treatment.
"ommenting on his desire to continue to his medical services in Jaffna# Dr R.P Pillai said
$a descendent of Jaffna even though % completed my education in & had my internship
after medical degree at the Jaffna teaching hospital. %t was absolutely at my own wish.
Observing the medical situation in 'ri (an)a district based hospitals are found in all the
districts and the efficient medical professionals are found there in. but treatment has to be
had only in "olombo for advanced ris)y and dangerous diseases# heart surgery in
particular *ven the private hospital target "olombo for treatment. !his situation should
change. Opportunities and facilities for all )inds of treatments must be made available to
all without any distinction.
+ore than ,-- people are affected with heart ailments. Particularly babies when born
carry with them heart ailments. !hey have to be treated forthwith but such treatment is
not available in Jaffna. 'uch cases when sent by ambulance to "olombo could be fatal on
way. *lders also face the same faith at times. !reatment facilities must be established in
the Jaffna district and else where to prevent such unwanted deaths. %t is a duty of the
government to fulfil the expectations of the people.
.hile this being so investors in Jaffna should display their earnestness in the medical
treatment sector. /nnually 0-- to 1-- heart patients are sent to "olombo for treatment
and when admitted in private hospitals they spend a lot on travelling# lodging and food.
!his situation can be averted if the medical facilities that are found in "olombo is made
available in the districts. nits for treatment of heart ailments must be made available in
government hospitals in the future.
