BREATHE WITH EASE
INTRODUCTION
In New Zealand many housholds have poor air quality resulting in severe health
consequences. Our solution was to automate the opening of windows when the air quality
within the room is low. The air pollution would be detected with the CitiSense device, which
has already been invented and can connect wirelessly to your smart phone. What our app
Breathe Easy does is connect electronic windows to the Citi Sense device and syncs them
together so that the windows open automatically when air pollution within the room is
detected. The app allows custimization of window opening times such as syncing to day and
night, weather conditions and temperature.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To make the air within households clean and green without the hassle of human interaction
needed.
3.2 Industry Analysis: Health and Safety Mobile App Industry
Industry: Health and Safety Mobile App Industry.
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: Low There are many various health and safety apps in
the mobile application market, although there are
no air quality related apps in the New Zealand
Market. Therefore buyer power is low as there
are no air quality measuring apps that are
avaliable for New Zealand. (GooglePlay, Air
Quality NZ Apps, 2014)

3

3
Supplier power: Low There are many software and mobile application
developers who can design and create this app.
(SourcingLine, 2014) Therefore supplier power is
low as we can pick and choose which supplier to
use.
Threat of new entrants: High Any mobile application developer can enter this
market as there is no high cost barrier just a
knowledge barrier. Many people and businesses
are entering this industry due to the mobile
revolution. (Rozenberg, 2013)
Threat of substitutes: Low There are no air quality checking apps in the NZ
market. Therefore threat of substitues are low as
there is no other mobile application that can
detect air pollution and automatically open
windows in the room. (GooglePlay, Air Quality NZ
Apps, 2014)
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
low Competition in the health and safety mobile
application market is low in NZ. Many apps in the
NZ market focus on transport, finacnce, deal, food,
fishing and hunting and tourism. (GooglePlay,
Android Apps NZ, 2014)
Overall attractiveness of the industry: Overall the Health and Safety Mobile App Industry
is attractive as there are no apps that detect air pollution within a room in the New Zealand
market.

3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
Our Customers are New Zealanders who are: health conscious or have young children,
people who suffer from respitory disorders e.g. asthma, people with disabilities and schools.
Our Consumers need this app to run smoothly by allowing fresh air to ventilate the room
when air quality is low and will not require any monitoring or interaction with the app after
starting the app. The app must be easy to use and sync with ease to the CitiSense device
and the electronic windows. (Compuware, 2012)
3.4 The Product and Service
The air quality within the room will be detected with the CitiSense. What our app Breathe
Easy does is wirelessly connect electronic windows to the Citi Sense device and syncs them
together so that the windows will open automatically when air quality within the room is
low. We will provide updating servies and customer support services for the installtion of
the CitiSense device and the connection of the device to the app.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners
Our suppliers for our product the Breathe Easy app will be CitiSense, GooglePlay and the
Apple Store. GooglePlay and Apple are our suppliers because they will supply us their store
space and we will release our app through them. CitiSense will supply us with the CitiSense
devices. These are the components that can detect the air quality within a room and can
connect wirelessly to a smartphone. (Zappi, Bales, Park, Griswold , & Rosing )
Our partners for our Breathe Easy app are IT firms, the Ministry of Enviroment and the
Ministry of Health. The IT firms will help advise us on how to ensure our app runs smoothly
and how to connected the app to both the CitiSense device and the electric windows
simultaneously. The Ministry of Health would give us advice on the levels of air quality and
help us identify when air quality levels are low. (Air Quality, 2014)

3.6 Strategy: Differentiation
Our product is for the broad market, anyone can use this product to monitor the air quality
within a room. You could use it in a childs bedroom or even in factories dealing with
chemicals. Our product allows everyone to breathe at ease by allowing fresh air to ventalate
the room when low levels of air quality are detected.
Our product comes at a price. The CitiSense device is relatively cheap to make (Zappi, Bales,
Park, Griswold , & Rosing ), but the electric windows, the creation of the app to sync with
both the window and the CitiSense device simultaneously and the testing and debugging
phase will cost a small fortune.
The overall strategy is therefore Differentiation.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Service after the sal e
The most important value chain activity for this business is service after the sale.
Service after the sal e is important for this business because we will have to
constantly ensure that our app is running smoothly and that there is no
interference between the connection of the app, the CitiSense device and the
electric windows. We want our product to allow fresh air to ventilate a room
with poor air quality smoothl y and without the need of human interaction.
Therefore getting customer feedback and servicing their needs is vital for us to
maintain our product.
3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK PROCESS The customer feedback process will help us to see if
there are any problems with our app. If there are any problems, we will send them to the IT
department and try to resolve this issue as fast as possible. Customer Feedback can also
help us to add new features to our product to make it more effective and user friendly.

3.8.2. UPDATING AND MAINTENANCE PROCESS This process updates and maintains our app
due to the feedback received from the customer. This process is important as it adds value
to our app by keeping it bug free and easy to use.

3.10. 1. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK SYSTEM This system sorts out the feedback received from our
customers into two piles, issue or other. If the feedback is an issue then the feedback is sent
to the Updating and Maintenance System, else, the feedback is stored and a thank you
email is sent to the customer.
3.10. 2. TESTING AND DEBUGGING SYSTEM This system locates the problem within the app
and fixes the issue. The app is then tested to see if the issue is resolved and the app is
working smoothly.
3.10. 3. UPDATING AND MAINTENANCE SYSTEM This system receives the feedback issue
from the customer feedback system. The issue is then forwarded to the testing and
debugging system. When the issue is solved, this system will update the app and email the
customer.

CONCLUSION

Our product is innovative within the New Zealand Market and can help many people suffering from
respitory condtions and allergies. The synchronisation between our app, the CitiSense device and
the electric windows could not be maintained without the use of information systems. Without the
Customer Feedback system we would not know if the app is running smoothly and therefore not
satisfying our customers needs and without the testing and debugging system we would not be able
to solve any issues the customers have. Information technology is vital for this business as without
it, our product would crumble under the weight of many issues involving bugs, synchronisation and
lack of customer feedback.
