Migration of HP Data Protector from Windhows 32bit to
64bit
If its new hardware then the supported method is detailed in the DP Installation.pdf Chapter 4 section
"Migrating from 32-bit/64-bit Windows to 64-bit Windows/Windows Server 2008"
The Installation.pdf Guide can be found on your Cell Manager, open your GUI >> Help >> Online
Documentation >> Installation and
Licensing Guide
If you want to use the same hardware then its a different process, here is a brief list of tasks
N.B. this task list assumes that you don't change the cell manager name or ip address
1. Take an IDB backup and make a note of the tape barcode/label
2. Take a complete system backup of the cell manager and make a note of the tape barcode/label
3. Stop DP services
open command prompt
c:\program files\omniback\bin\omnisv status | stop | start
4. Create a safe copy of the following files (Normal Windows copy and paste):
<omnihome>\Config\Server
<omnihome>\db40 (if you have dcbf folders located outside \db40 make sure that these are also
safely copied)
<omnihome>\omnirc
Make a note of the DP Installation Path
(N.B. if you have any scripts or anything else specific to your configuration located anywhere else
also take safe
copies)
5. Reinstall the server with Windows2008R2 and use the same hostname and ip address
Install your Standard software and latest windows updates as well. (Sofrware: Antivirus, etc.)
6. do a fresh installation of Data protector and the latest patches (*must be same version and
installation path as above*)
7. Stop DP services (open command prompt >> c:\program files\omniback\bin\omnisv stop)
8. rename <omnihome>\Config\Server to <omnihome>\Config\Server.orig
9. rename <omnihome>\db40 to <omnihome>\db40.orig
10. Copy back the safe copy of
<omnihome>\Config\Server
<omnihome>\db40
<omnihome>\omnirc
11. run the following commands <omnihome>\bin:
perl winomnimigrate.pl -configure_idb
perl winomnimigrate.pl -configure_cm

NOTE: the new Cell manager must be connected on the Network and must have network access.
if you get the following perl error:
Perl.exe - System Error
The program can't start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the
program to fix this
problem.
download the MSVCR71.dll file from this link http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-
files_new.php/dllfiles/M/MSVCR71.dll/7.10.3052.48/download.html
If you use a 64-bit version of Windows, you should also place msvcr71.dll in
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
Make sure overwrite any existing files (but make a backup copy of the original file).
Reboot your computer.
If the problem still occurs, try the following:
Open Windows Start menu and select "Run...".
Type CMD and press Enter (or if you use Windows ME, type COMMAND)).
Type regsvr32 msvcr71.dll and press Enter.
12. Start DP Services (open command prompt >> c:\program files\omniback\bin\omnisv start)
13. runn the following command <omnihome>\bin:
omnidbutil -show_cell_name
(check that this is correct)
14. Start the GUI and check that everything is ok
