Background of the Tex Schramm Scholarship
The Texas E. Schramm Freshman Scholarship seeks out the most outstanding young
men entering the University of Texas. As a young man, Tex Schramm was a brother
of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity where he demonstrated top leadership and character. He
later became a professional football Hall of Famer and first general manager of the
Dallas Cowboys. The brothers of Phi Kappa Psi present this scholarship in his honor.

The Scholarship Process
Of the applications received, the most qualified applicants move on to the round of
interviews. Interviews are first conducted over the phone by members of the scholarship
committee. The most qualified applicants are named semifinalists. Semifinalists are
then interviewed in person during orientation. The pool of applicants is then narrowed
once more to finalists who are invited to the Tex Schramm Scholarship Banquet held on
August 24
th
. Each finalist is recognized at the banquet along with the winners. There
will be a total of 14 scholarships rewarded. This presents a great opportunity for the
young men to meet their future colleagues and celebrate their accomplishments.

Scholarship Criteria
The scholarship winners will be selected based upon their academic achievements,
leadership abilities, extracurricular activities, and community service.

Requirements
1.) A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
2.) Enrollment at the University of Texas at Austin
3.) Completion of the following application form
4.) Submission of a copy of your high school transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
5.) Attendance at the Tex Schramm Scholarship Banquet
