Hope you had a great weekend.
Here is written confirmation of our Math in Focus K-5 discussions from last week.
1. The 2013 Math in Focus materials in the attached Quotation Form are guaranteed by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Northwest Textbook Depository to be
available to Seattle Public Schools for the entire 7 year SPS K-5 math adoption period.
2. The 2013 Math in Focus materials in the attached quotation form will be available to Seattle Public Schools at the listed prices and the prices are fixed for the
entire 7 years.
3. Seattle Public Schools can purchase the Math in Focus program under the attached terms for this coming school year (2014/2015) or next school year
(2015/2016).
4. The cost per student for Math in Focus will be the same regardless of the number of students or the number of schools that choose the program. You can use a
linear calculation of $228 per student. The only thing that might be lower (but not higher) is if a school has had previous Math in Focus professional
development, in which case we can save them some money on the PD portion of the cost.
5. The new 2015 copyright of the Math in Focus K-5 materials will be available for implementation this August for the 2014/2015 school year.
6. By special arrangement, the new 2015 copyright of the Math in Focus K-5 materials will be available to SPS at the same prices and on the same terms as the
2013 copyright and as detailed in the attached quotation form. The 2013 matching prices for the 2015 copyright are also fixed for the 7 years RFP period.
There will be no price increase for the 2015 Math in Focus copyright for Seattle Public Schools.
7. What are the differences between the 2013 MIF and the just released 2015?
They are the same program the differences are minor. Attached is a slide detailing the differences. Marshall Cavendish has created an outline that shows a
pathway to follow if you want to stay true to the Singapore curriculum or follow the exact content that matches CCSS. The practices in Math in Focus have always
matched the CCSS and been in depth, but there were a few places where the CCSS content aligns better in the 2015. Many school districts that adopted the 2013
Math in Focus are rolling into the 2015 copyright this August.

We need clarification for the Request for Quote Form, you submitted on RFP02440 for Math in Focus, dated March 27, 2014.
We have three different totals for this curriculum.

You attached a proposal dated 11/25/13 to this answered RFP on March 27
th
and this proposal shows a total of $6,512,937.50.

The Request for Quotation form you submitted did not have a grand total, due to No Charge inserted in a numeric field instead of a zero. (attached)

I took out the No Charge on your attached form (dated 4/2/14) and I get a price of $9,446,266.01

For both Go Math! and Math in Focus, there is no cost for SPS in year 6 and year 7.

We were unable to fill in the year one costs on both Request for Quote Forms the excel document we received had that cell protected.

Attached is a Math in Focus Two year Professional Development Plan for SPS.
The PD Plan is an overview of the training plan and pricing designed to meet the needs of a K-
5 Math in Focus implementation for SPS.
The two year Professional Development Plan includes:
Total GRATIS Professional Development = $216,983.50
Total PAID Professional Development = $391,250.00
The Paid Professional development is included in the annual costs detailed in the Math in Focus RFP
submission.
A Two Year Implementation Calendar is included in the PD Plan.
2. Is there an option for HM to train our staff (train-the-trainer)and have us train our teachers, thus
saving some expense?
There is both direct to teachers PD and train-the-trainer PD included in the attached PD Plan.
This is the minimum PD for a successful Math in Focus Implementation.
3. What is the purpose of the year 2 PD? Is this for the same first-year-trained teachers or just for
new teachers to the program?

As detailed in the attached plan, the Math in Focus year 2 PD goes well beyond new teacher training.
Math in Focus is an excellent program. To be successful, it does require implementation and PD training
at the attached level in years 1 and 2.

deliver to the school sites and Shawn Sipe is able to power through all the groupings of English and
Spanish materials with ease.

I discovered a missing box of materials for Kindergarten going to Anne Aliverti at Bryant Elementary
and have ordered a replacement box to arrive overnight.

You will receive the requested RFP paperwork tomorrow before the deadline. James and I are
reviewing it now.

We asked in the RFP for each box to be addressed to the location that was provided in

We need to get these items moved out of our warehouse and into the schools

Congratulations on being selected as a finalist to proceed from the RFI stage to the RFP stage for the
Districts above referenced curriculum adoption.

Seattle Public Schools (the District) is planning a Comprehensive K-5 Core Mathematics Program Adoption
aligned to Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
( http://www.corestandards.org/Math ) with tools, components and resources, which enable the teacher
to address all learners needs. This Adoption is to primarily serve our elementary school students in
grades Kindergarten through Grade 5. First year implementation is planned for the 2014/2015 school
year.

The District will require two years of in-service training by a qualified math trainer. These costs shall be
included within the Quotation Form of this RFP package.

The Technology components of this adoption must be on a platform that easily adapts to current
District Technology platforms but also provides no extra cost upgrades to future Technology
Standards adopted by the District. Any costs associated with technology shall be included within the
Quotation Form of this RFP package.

The District is inviting finalists from the RFI process to participate in this RFP process where additional
information and samples will be requested. Sample materials will be extensively distributed throughout
the District for increased exposure to, and feedback from curriculum adoption stakeholders.

RFP respondents should thoroughly review all RPF documents, fill out/return all forms (complete all
yellow shaded areas) and provide any supplemental information/materials important to your offer within
indicated timelines/deadlines. Instructions will include information on how/where to transmit the RFP
response itself (this will be different from how the physical book/supplemental materials will be sent).

RFP Response/Submittal shall as a minimum include the following:

Response to the Vendor/Publisher Questionnaire (Attachment 3)
Request for Quotation Form-(Attachment 4)
Request for Quotation Form Part A (Attachment 5)
Request for Quotation Form Part B (Attachment 6)

Provide any supplemental information/materials important to your offer

In addition to responding to the RFP itself, the District will instruct finalists on how/where to send
additional sample books, supplemental and other tangible items. The RFP will also instruct finalists on
how to transmit electronic access/password instructions so that Adoption Committee members and
stakeholder can easily access electronic/on-line resources.

Following School Board Policies and Superintendent Procedures, the Adoption Committee will use
established criteria to make curriculum recommendations that will be presented to the School Board for
further consideration and possible adoption.

Incomplete submissions of the questionnaire or quotation forms may disqualify vendors from
consideration for this project.

Using the attached RFP questionnaire/forms etc. as the vehicle to gather information, we hope to better
understand the features, benefits and estimated direct/indirect costs to procure, implement and support
this adoption into the future.

Estimated price range for the first year adoption and implementation is $1,200,000.00 - $1,700,000.00.

Evaluation criteria are listed in Attachment 8. The District has elected to coordinate with the National
Instructional Materials Access Center (NIMAC) to ensure student access to the educational curriculum.
See Attachment 9 for information and Attachment 10 for the associated contract requirement.

The funding has been identified.

Please note that the District will select the successful firm based on the best interests of the District, all
factors considered. The District reserves the right to reject any or all proposals, waive minor
informalities, and make the award in its best interest. Please note that the District reserves the right to
seek clarifications about the proposals, to request post-proposal modifications, including best and final
offers and considerations, and to engage in negotiations with a selected short list of vendors. In addition,
the District reserves the right to reject any firm that is not willing to accept the Districts Standard terms
and conditions.

During this Adoption process, do not contact any District personnel (outside of the
Procurement/Purchasing Services staff mentioned below).
No sales, marketing, sample/product access/delivery to District staff or other RFI/RFP/Adoption
participants shall occur during the Adoption process.
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in disqualification of your company for the
review and adoption process.

I apologize that I did not understand the question.
The Go Math Teacher Editions are soft cover chapter booklets they are not "hard bound."
The MIF Teachers Edition is a two volume A and B set that is spiral bound they both are "hard bound"

Teachers materials. I add this up to be $4,426,950.60 for the first year amount plus tax and shipping?

Hello Susan,
Thank you for your email. We did not know that communications after the RFI is released should take
place via email. We will not call again during the RFI process.
Upon the release of the SPS Math K-5 RFI, we have done the following:
1. Cancelled a December 3 author event in the Seattle area that would have included SPS educators.
2. Stopped and placed a hold all shipments of samples/virtual products information to SPS.
3. Arranged an exclusion for SPS from all HMH email campaigns.
4. Begun preparation of our response to the RFI in order to make all deadlines.
We appreciate your consideration of our request that Seattle schools be allowed access to the
samples/virtual products information that was sent out prior to the RFI release. If there is a retroactive
exclusive for materials sent, there is a question as to how far back that restriction would go and how it
would be applied equitably to all publishers. It would be difficult for instance for publishers to remove the
math pilots that are in the schools. We hope that schools will have access to all publishers materials sent
out prior to the RFI release.

With that said, I would like to ask if it would be possible for you to pick these up, or send call tags to
have these items returned to you? We cannot have them setting out in the schools and keep
hands from reaching in the pile for free items.

Hello Susan,

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt had previously scheduled one of our national authors to do a Principals
Workshop in the Seattle area on December 3, 2013.

With the release today of the Seattle Public Schools RFI for Math K-5, we do not want the timing of this
workshop event to be in violation of the RFI or have any appearance of impropriety.

Therefore, we are canceling the Workshop on December 3, 2013.

We will reschedule the event after Seattle Public Schools has completed the adoption process.

Below is the email that we will send to all Seattle Area Principals that we invited.

This Cost Proposal took two weeks longer than it should have and I am so embarrassed to say that
it was sitting on hold to go through a different channel of approval than I submitted. As a pilot
evidently it goes through a different chain of command and this has recently changed so it was not
a procedure I was aware of. SOOOOOO SORRY!

I want to thank you for your forgiveness and grace with this matter.

I have been on the road a lot the past two weeks since the weeks prior to that I was focused on the
Math conference. I have had my computer with me however and I have been checking every day
for approval- I also sent several HELP requests to my boss who was the one who finally pushed
this along and figured out who would be able to make the necessary changes/approvals to get it in
final form for you.

I promise you this process isnt normally so frustrating and again I apologize profusely for any
frustrations you have encountered.

I know your teachers are eager to get going with Math In Focus and hopefully they are finding their
way through the first few lessons of the Teachers Editions I gave them. I also hope the training
they received at McDonald International School was helpful. I missed them at Alki last Wednesday
but I do understand your reasoning for not sending them.

I know there is a year-end offer of some on-line training for a fraction of the cost of a live
trainer please let me know if this is something you would like more details on.

Please let me know how I can facilitate your order. I have ccd Holly ONeil who has also assured me
she is on the look-out for your order and will be sure it is processed without delay.
