QUESTION 1 a) Determine the root of the equation/(x) = -2x 2 + 3x + 1.5 using Bisection method. Assume the lower and upper initial values of x as 1 and 2 respectively and check that the approximate percent relative error s a is less than 10%. Tabulate your answers. V* L. V Given x, = and new old x r - x r 100% (12 marks) b) For the same polynomial function as in (a) above, apply the Newton-Raphson method to determine the real root to 6 decimal places. Start with x 0 = 3 and do three iterations. Comment on your answer. Consider, (13 marks) QUESTION 2 a) Evaluate the integral of f(x) = 30-25x + 18x 2 + 3x 3 - 0.5x 4 from a = 0 to b = 1.5 using; i) the usual analytical method ii) Simpson's 3/8 rule: / = ^ j [f(x 0 )+ 3/ K) + 3/(x 2 ) + f{ Xl )\ and h = (b-a)/3 Discuss the results.
