PROBLEM STATEMENT
Cholera is a disease caused by infection of the intestine with the
bacterium of Vibrio cholera.
A person can get cholera by drinking water or eating food contaminated
with the cholera bacterium.
Cholera is most likely to be found and spread in places with inadequate
water treatment, poor sanitation, and bad hygiene. We want to help the
people in Haiti that are diagnosed with Cholera.

SCIENCE
infected persons will have severe disease
In these people, rapid loss of body fluids leads to dehydration and
shock.
Without treatment, death can occur within hours.

MAP OF WHERE IT
EFFECTS

Every year, there are an estimated 35 million cholera cases and 100 000120 000
deaths due to cholera.

The short incubation period of two hours to five days, enhances the potentially
explosive pattern of outbreaks.

EFFECTS
Cholera can begin as soon as a few hours or as long as five days after
infection.
Often symptoms are mild. But sometimes they are very serious.
If you are experiencing Cholera symptoms seek medical attention
immediately.

SYMPTOMS
About one in 20 people infected have severe watery diarrhea also by
vomiting, which can lead to Dehydration.
Although many infected people may have minimal or no symptoms, they
can still be able to spread the infection.

SOLUTIONS
Cholera can be simply and successfully treated by immediate
replacement of the fluid and lost through diarrhea.
Patients can be treated with oral rehydration solution, a prepackaged
mixture of sugar and salts to be mixed with water and drunk in large
amounts.
This solution is used throughout the world to treat diarrhea. Severe
cases also require fluid replacement. With prompt rehydration fewer
than 1% of cholera patients die.
