ARCHMERE ACADEMY, SERAFIN STRING QUARTET, AND THE MUSIC SCHOOL OF
DELAWARE TEAM UP TO OFFER NEW AFTER SCHOOL STRING ENSEMBLE PROGRAM

(Claymont, DE) June 2, 2014: Archmere Academy is pleased to announce a new partnership
with The Music School of Delaware, which includes Music School faculty and the Serafin String
Quartet (the University of Delawares String Quartet in Residence) as part of UDs outreach
program. Members of Serafin String Quartet (Kate Ransom, violin; Lisa Vaupel, violin; Esme
Allen-Creighton, viola; Lawrence Stomberg, cello) also serve on the faculty of The Music
School of Delaware. The partnership will offer Archmere students the opportunity to
participate in a unique after school String Ensemble program, beginning this coming fall. This
partnership builds on Archmeres existing String Ensemble program, initiated a year ago.

It is exciting to be able to give our students this opportunity to study with highly-regarded
performance musicians, through the creative collaboration of The Music School of Delaware,
University of Delaware, and Archmere Academy, says Headmaster Michael A. Marinelli, Ed.D.,
76. Musical study has such a positive impact on students overall learning, growth and
development. At Archmere, we are committed to offering students the opportunity to engage
in the performing and visual arts to provide a comprehensive and well-balanced academic
experience.

The newly-revised program targets student musicians of all skill levels, with both an Advanced
String Ensemble component for advanced string players and Lab Group component for novice
and intermediate string players. Both modules will meet eight times per semester, with a
total of 16 sessions for the academic year. The Advanced String Ensemble will be coached by
members of the Serafin String Quartet, and features four master classes throughout the year
with at least two concerts, possibly including the Lab Group. The Lab Group will be coached
by a Music School faculty member, and all students in the Lab Group will be invited to attend
master classes for the Advanced String Ensemble.

I view this partnership as an innovative and exciting collaboration between Archmere, the
Music School, and UDs Quartet-in-Residence, says Music School of Delaware President and
Serafin Quartet member, Kate Ransom. From every angle, I am delighted it is happening and
we hope it will prove to be a model of cooperation, service and excellence!
