STAS 12187-88 - 4 -

2.4 Soldering welding capacity
2.4.1 For plates of the OL 52 EP brand the value of the equivalent carbon is guaranteed, calculated on the liquid
steel with the following formula:

C
e
= C +
6
Mn
+
5
V Mo Cr # #
+
15
Cu Ni #
$ 0.44 %

2.4.2 For plates with a thickness between 20 and 50 mm, of the OL 52 EP brand, the minimum angle of bending of
the sample loaded longitudinally with weld and it is compared with the admitted values in accordance with
STAS 9021-80.

2.5 Aspect
In accordance with STAS 505-86 with the following specifications:
- It is not admitted to remedy by welding the surface defects;
- It is admitted the elimination of the surface defects by polish, under condition that the thickness of the plates,
after the elimination of the defects, are in the frame of the limit deviations stipulated in STAS 437-87.

2.6 Delivery state
The plates are delivered normalized.
The replacing of the normalization by the lamination temperature control is not admitted.
The plates are delivered with cut edges.

2.7 Ultrasonic control
The plates with a thickness of 850 mm shall be submitted to the ultrasonic control on a grid of 200 x 200 mm.
The plates with a thickness up to 30 mm including shall correspond to the quality class M2S2, and the plates with a
thickness over 30 mm to the M3S3 quality class, stipulated in the ISCIR C36 technical specifications.
Other methods of non destructive control can also be used if agreed by the parties.

3 RULES AND METHODS FOR THE QUALITY VERIFICATION

3.1 Batch
Verification batch means the quantity of plates from the same piece of plate.
The size of a lot is of max. 15 t.

3.2 Taking samples
For the mechanical and technological tests the sampling must be in accordance with STAS 7324-75.
All the samples are taken transversally except the samples for the determination of the KV tearing energy which is
taken longitudinally.

3.3 Verifications and tests

Table 4
Control or test The test proportion
Methods of verification or
test
Interpretation of the
results
Aspect verification All the plates from the batch To the naked eye
Dimensions verification All the plates from the batch With the normal measuring
devices
The plates which do not
correspond are rejected.
Chemical composition for
liquid steel (at casting)
One sample per batch
Verification of chemical
composition per product
One sample per batch, of the
thickest plates
In accordance with
STAS 2015/1-S3,
STAS 2015/2-85 and with
the standards of chemical
analysis in force
Only the corresponding
batches are admitted
Traction tests (with the
determination of the yield
point, resistance to tearing
and elongation at break)
One test piece per batch In accordance with
STAS 200-87
Bending test One test piece per lot In accordance with
STAS 777-80
Impact bending test for the
determination of the impact
strength
Three test pieces from the
same plate per batch
In accordance with
STAS 1400-75
The test which has no
corresponding results is
repeated for a double
number of test pieces taken
from other plates of the
batch. In this case, if a test
piece has no corresponding
results, the batch is rejected.

In accordance with
STAS 7511-81 and
STAS 6833-79
If a result is not
corresponding, the
respective plate is eliminated
and the test is repeated for
two other plates from the
batch, per a set of three test
pieces for each plate. If in
this case one single set is
still not corresponding, all
the plates from the batch are
rejected.
Bending test of the test piece

One test piece per batch In accordance with
STAS 7748-85 and
