 What is the Sunnah Method of Hajj?
There are three kinds of Hajj (1) Hajj-e-Tamattu (2)
Hajj-e-Qiran (3) Hajj-e-Ifrad
In this brochur, we are explaining the method of
Hajj-e-Tamattu, the method is as follows : Firstly we should
understand the method of Umrah.
1) Tying up Ihram after arriving at Miqath (those who are going by air can tie
up their Ihram before being seated in the plane and the Niyyah (the intention
of Ahram) should be done after reaching Miqath. (Ibn-e-Maja)
2) Bath should be taken and fragrance should be applied before Ihram.
(Muslim) and if possible even unwanted hair should be removed. Man
should remove all his stitched cloths and put Ihram cloth,tie Tahband
meaning the cloth tied on the lower body and the upper part of the body
should also be covered with a single piece of Ihram cloth. It would be better
if the Ihram is white and clean, women will tie up Ihram in her usual clothes
but the clothes and burqa(outer cloak) should be simple and not flashy or
attractive. (Hajjatul Nabi, bin-baz)
3) After reaching Miqath recite (é÷ †ø Ûø ³Âö Ô ø nû f$Öø Ü$ ³ãö ×# ³Ö]) (Allahumma labbaika umaratan) and
then one should intend the Niyyah of Umrah (Muslim), if a person is
performing Umrah on behalf of someone else he should not only recite
(é÷ ³†ø ³Ûø ³Âö Ô û nû f$Öø Ü$ ³³ãö ×#³³Ö]) (Allahumma labbaika umaratan) along the Niyyah, but should
also say the name of that person (Buqari, Abudawood and Tirmizi). If the
person going for Umrah and Hajj is scared of any hindrance in reaching
Makkah he should read this (oßô ³jø Šû fø uø &ö nû uø oû ×ùô ³vô ³Úø Ü$ ³ãö ×#³Ö]) (Allahumma mahilly haisu
habastany) at the time of Niyyah. In case if he could not reach Makkah he can
remove his Ihram; with out any fine. There is no Special prayer (Salah) for
tying Ihram but in Zulhulaifah (maiqat of madina), to offer 2 rakah salah is
Mustahab. It is not Ihram salah but it is on the basis of the speciality of this
place (Sunan abuDawood) However if somebody intends to tye the Ihram
after Fard salah, it is permissible, because its a Sunnah of our Prophet
SAWs.
4) After tying up Ihram recite Talbiyah

( labbaik Allahumma labbaik labbaika laa sharika laka labbaik innal hamda
wannamata laka walmulk laa sharika laka ) loudly (musnadAhmed) and other
authentic duas(supplications)are: (DÐ$ ³³³³³v³³³³³Öø ] äø ³³³³³³³³³³³ÖF ]ô Ô ø nû f$Öø ) (labbaika ilahal haq),
Dtû …ô ^³³³³Ã³³Ûø ³³³Öø ]]ƒ Ô ø nû $fÖø E (Labbaika zalma'arij), (DØû ³³•ô ]ç³³Ëø ³³³Öø ] ]ƒø Ô ø nû f$Öø E (Labbaika zal fawazil)
DØÛÃÖ]æ Ô ø nû Öø ]ô ðö «fø Æû †Öø ]æ Ô ø mû ‚ø nø eô †nû íø Ö]æ Ô ø mû ‚ø Ãû ‰ø æ Ô ø nû f$Öø E
(Labbaik wasaadaik walkairu biyadaikwarragabaau Ilaika wal amal)
when a person recite Talbiyah, along him all pebbles, trees and rocks of left
right and all corners of the earth reads Labaik (yes we are present) and the
Ajar of this goes to the person who recites Talbiyah loudly (Ibn-e-Maja) It is
permissible for women to say Talbia loudly.
5) On reaching the city of Makkah, Talbiyah reading should be stopped.
(Hajjathu Nnabi by Abani) it is better to perform ablution (Wadu) for Tawaf

 (there is no Unanimous opinion about ablution among the Scholars, better
to make ablution to avoid controversy (Fatawah Ibn-e-Taimiya) It is
Sunnah to enter Makkah in day time (Buqari) Enter from Saniyya ulyaa
(Babul Mualla'a) and enter the Mosque from door of Bani Shaibah (It is
the nearest to Hajr-E-Aswad) (Sahi Buqari) or He can enter from any part
of makkah. (Alfakihi , Hassan hadeeth)
6) Before starting Tawaf, the part of the shoulder cloth should be taken from
under the right shoulder and put on the left shoulder which means,
adopting the condition of Iztiba'a (Abu Dawood) put your right leg first
while entering the Masjid-ul-Haram and read this Dua'a

7) At the first sight of Kaaba raising hands and reading of this Dua'a is
Sunnah of Sahabi

Allahumma Antassalam waminkassalam fahayyina rabbana bisslam
(Musnad Ash-Shaafai Sahih) begin Tawaf by the Gesture of Hajr-e-Aswad
or by touching it. (Nasai) it is better to keep your eyes on Kaaba and read
the above dua while performing Tawaf (moving around the Kaaba)
8) For Istilaam (by touching or by gesture of Hajr-e-Aswad) its better to kiss
Hajr-e-Aswad and if possible bend the forehead on it and if not possible
touch it with hand or stick and kiss the same with which you have touched
it and if touching is not possible due to crowd, gesture it with hand but
don't kiss the hand and at the time of gesture like Rafa Yaddain don't raise
both hands instead gesture Hajr-e-Aswaad with the right hand.(Buqari)
9) At the time of Istilaam say (†fø Òû ]ø äö ×# Ö] Xäô ×# Ö] Üô Šû eô ) (Bismillahi Allahu Akber)
(Musnad Ahmed, Ibn-e-Omar)' sins Wash out by touching Hajr-E-Aswad
and Ruknyamani (Tirmizi)
10) If possible in every round of Tawaf touch the black stone (Hajr-e-Aswaad)
or gesture towards it or gesture it from far and pass ahead (Abu Dawood)
11) In the first three rounds of Tawaf-e-Qadoom men should walk very
fast(when it is not crowded ) and in the remaining four rounds they should
walk in a normal way. (Tirmizi)
12) Don't kiss the Rukn-e-Yamani but only touch it. if touching is not possible
then move out without any gesture (Buqari) and also don't read
(†fø Òû ]ø äö ×# Ö] Xäô ×# Ö] Üô Šû eô ) (Bismillahi Allahu Akber)
13) In between Rukn-e-Yamani and Hajr-e-Aswaad recite

Rabbana aatina fiddunya hasanatawwafil aakirati hasanatawwaqina azabanna (2:201)
and in the remaining Tawaf read any of the Quranic and dua of Sahi
Ahadith you remember (Abu Dawood) (there is no particular dua for Tawaf)

 14) Complete seven rounds for one Tawaf (Tirmizi) the part between the door
of Kaaba and Hajr-e-Aswad is called Multazam. Touching the Kaaba with
our face, hands and chest and praying deep heartedly is proven by our
beloved Prophet SWAs and his companions (r).
15) After completing seven rounds come towards Maqam-e-Ibrahim reciting
this Do×#’ø Úö Üø nû aô ]†ø ³eû ]ô Ýô ^³Ïø ³Úø àû ³Úô ]æû „ö ³íô ³$i]æø E ( wattakizu mimmaqmy Ibraheema muslla'a) and
there offer two Rakaat salah. In first Rakaat read Dá憳Ê^³³Ó³Ö] ^³³³ãm] ^³m س³ÎE and in
second one D‚u] ä³×³Ö] ç³â سÎE (Tirmizi) beside this, reading of any other Surah /
Ayat has no objection.
16) After the salah, drink Zamzam and sprinkle some on head (Ahmed)
drinking Zamzam water in standing position on that place is important
drinking it by seating is also permissible.
17) After drinking Zamzam again do Istilam of Hajr-e-Aswad and for Sayee
go towards Safa Mountain (Ahmed)
18) While climbing Safa Mountain recite

19) On climbing Safa Mountain face towards Qibla and read these Kalimath
three times

and in between safa and marwa pray any authentic Dua'a in any language
(Muslim)
20) Beginning Sayee (running between Safa & Marwah) from Safa, go on
Marwah mountain repeat the same as given in S.No.18 and 19 (Muslim)
21) Between the green signals, our prophet SAWs used to walk fast to the
extend that lower part of of his Ihram was raised upto Knees. It mean
light running is permissible, when it is less crowded.

22) During Sayee, read any of the Quranic Dua or Hadith you remember or
read it by seeing any of Hadith book (Ibn-e-Khuzaima) (ablution is not
necessary for Sayee)' during sayee reading this prayer is proven by some
companions of Prophets SAWs.

23) Count first round from Safa to Marwah and complete seven round in the
same way (Ibn-e-khuzaima) and from Marwa to Safa , count 2nd round,
the seventh round will end at Marwa.
24) After Sayee, men should shave their head or cut their hair completely (but
shaving head completely is preferable) and women should cut a small
part of their hair (One inch) (Nasai)
25) Then the Ihram cloths are removed and the normal clothes are to be worn
(Buqari). Now the Umrah is completed according to Sunnah.

 METHOD OF HAJJ ACCORDING TO SUNNAH
8 Zilhijjah
1) On 8 Zilhijja, in Makkah Mukarramah, tie up the Ihram for Hajj at their
respective residence. (Muslim)
2) After tying of Ihram, intend for Hajj by saying these words.
D^÷ ru ÔnfÖ Üã×Ö]E (Allahumma labbaika Hajjan (Muslim)
3) Take bath before tying Ihram.
4) Apply fragrance on body before tying Ihram (Bukhari, Tirmizi)
5) After tying Ihram, say talbiyah

O'Allah the intention of my Hajj is neither to showoff to any one nor to
gain any popularity. (Ibn-e-Maja)' After reaching Mina offer Zohar
salah and offer all salat at their respective times with Qasr.{to make
four rakat as two rakat for like zuhar, asar and Isha obligatory prayers}
9 Zilhijjah
6) On the day of Arfah after rising of sun, leave Meena to Arafat by
reciting Takbeer †fø Òû ]ø äö ×#Ö],Tahleel Dä×Ö] Ÿ] äÖ] ŸE, and Talbiyah (Muslim)' There is
no greater day than the Arafat day in which a lot of slaves of Allah are
released from the hell (Sahi Muslim)
7) on the day of Arafah,one can keep fast or avoid it, which is optional.the
popular statement which forbids fasting on this day is zaeef which
means it is not authentic (Tirmizi)
8) Before entering Arfat , take rest in Wadi-e-Nimrah listen to the speech
(Qutba) of Imam-e-Haj at the time of Zohr and then offer both Zohr and
Asar Prayer with one Azaan and two Iqamat along with Jamat with
qasar (by offering Two Rakath) (Muslim)
9) After offering Zohr and Asar salah, enter in to Arfath and also if
possible in the lap of Jabl-e-Rahmat (or) where ever you get place, do
waquf (stay) and raising the hands pray quranic and nabavi duas and in
between also say Takbeer, Tahleel and Talbiyah. (Muslim) and on this
day read this dua

mulku walahul hamdu wahuwa ala kulli shaiin qadeer) (Tirmizi)
because it's the Sunnah of Prophets of Allah and our Prophet
Mohammed SAWs and this dua'a is also authentic.
Dé†ø ìô øŸ] †ö nû ìø †ö n» íø Öû ] ^Ûø $Þ]ô E (Innamal kairu kairul Aakhirah), However if the late comers
reach the ground of Arafat on 10 Zilhijjah before Fajr even their arfat
Rukn is being offered. (Bukhari , Muslim)

 10) After the sunset without offering Maqrib Namaz, leave for Muzdalifa
while reciting Talbiya with peace and dignity. (Muslim)' It is wrong to
imagine or think that the stay at Mina between the 8th and 9th Zilhaj
Hajj midnight is compulsory (Fatwa Mashoor Aal Salman)
11) After reaching Muzdalifa, offer Maqrib & Isha salah together with one
Azaan and two Iqamat, by doing three rakaat of magrib, and two Rakaat
of isha (Muslim)
12) spend the night sleeping and on 10 Zillahajj offer Fajr salah at the
earliest (Muslim)
13) After offering the Fajr salah in congregation, move in the lap of
Masharul Haram ( or wherever you get place) and face towards qibla
and raise the hands and make duaa,say takbir and tahalil, do tauba and
IstIqhfar(ask repentance) and pray for all,this should be done before the
sun rises till the dawnlight spreads all over. (Muslim)
14) Before the sun rises, while reciting talbiya with peace and dignity,also
leave for meena and walk faster from the Mohasser Valley as in history
it was a place where Allah had brought his punishment(refer surah fil)

Note:it is allowed for the weak women, aged and handicapped
person.to leave Muzdalifa to Meena after the midnight it self .
(Bukhari, Muslim)but pebbles pelting should be done after sunrise
(Tirmizi) the time of pebble pelting can be extended till night also
(Bukhari / Hajjathul Nabi by Albani, Pg.80 )
10 Zilhijjah
15)On reaching meena after the sunrise, perform the Rami( throwing the
pebbles) of Jamrah Aqba (last jamarah ) (Mulsim) for pelting the Big
Jamrah, collect seven pebbles if it is easy from Mazdalifa itself. These
pebbles can also be collected from the ground of Meena whose size
must be a bit bigger than a gram pulse. Washing of pebbles is a bida'at.
Note:. Four thing have to be done on 10 Zilhijjah,
1) Pelting at the big Jamrah one by one with seven pebbles by saying
Allahu Akber and then stopping Talbiyah.
2) Giving Qurbani (sacrificing animal)
3) shortening the head hair completely or shaving the head which is more
preferable (Bukhari / Mulsim)
4) Doing Tawaf-e-Ziyarat and Sayee.
NOTE:out of the above four things On the 10 Zillhijja after pelting
pebbles on Jamrah aqba Haji is free from the restriction of Ihram but
still sexual intercourse remains forbidden However after doing
tawaf-e-Ziyrath and Sayee having sex with wife is also allowed.
NOTE:after pelting pebbles the haji is free from the restriction of Ihraam
but on the condition that he should complete his tawafe ziyarath and
sayee before night falls if he could not do tawaf-e-Ziyarath then he
should tie up Ihram again and do Tawaf-e-Ziyarath and he can remove

 ihram and put up his usual or casual attire (Abu Dawood / Hajjatun
Nabi by:Albani)
Please remember that serial order of the above four things is Mustahab
but not obligatory for Hajj , incase one does not follow the serial order
he need not pay any fine.
The above four things are explained in detail in
following points:
16) After Rami of Jamrah aqaba, (pelting of pebbles) sacrifice the goat &
eat something cooked out of it.(Mulsim).
17) After Qurbani, completely shave the head and remove the Ihram clothes
and put on the usual attire. Shaving the head is more preferable.
(Bukhari / Muslim).
18) Moving from meena to makkah mukarrama, perform Tawafe-e-Ifaza,
drink Zamzam & pour a little on head. (Muslim)
19) Do, Sayee of Safa & Marwa & return back to Meena from Makkah
Mukkarama (Abu Dawood).
11th /12th and 13th Zilhijjah
20) Spend the nights of Tashreeq (11th, 12th and 13th Zillhijjah) in Meena
& daily after zawal (NOON) pelt pebbles on Jamrah-Ula, jamrah
wustaand Jamrah Aqba respectively. (Abu Dawood)
21) After Rami of Jamrah Ula, Jamrah Wusta, the haaji should suplicate
facing towards Qibla but after Rami of Jamra Aqba (Pelting of Pebbles)
return without making dua'a. (Abdu Dawood) during rami If any Haji
has a doubt in counting, he should complete the remaining counting by
continuing with the same in which he is sure.
22) If possible, during the stay in Meena, perform tawaf daily, offer prayers
with congregation in Masjid-e-Khaif, {Seventy Prophets had offered
prayers in Majid-e-Khaif} (Al Mukhtara by Zia Al Maqdasi, Hassan
hadith) whole heartedly read Tahlil & Takbir, Hamd & Sana, Tauba
and istighfar, suplicate . (Ahmed)
23) On 12th Zillhijjah if you want to return from Meena, then leave Meena
before sunset. (If the sunsets before leaving from mina, then on 13th
Zillhijjah) you have to return from Meena after doing Rami (Pelting of
pebbles) (Surah : Albaqrah Ayat 203)
24) Arriving at Makkah Mauzzama,and before departure form makkah,
perform tawaf-e-wada. (Muslim)
Note :
It is not necessary to go to Madina for the acceptance of Hajj and there
is no such condition but I would like to insist that Haji should go to
Madina also, and should not be deprived of ziyarath of Madina Taiba
and its Ajar-o-Sawab(reward), people who think that Hajj will not be
accepted, without going to Madina is unproven by al quran and sunnah.
Note: Women having Menstrual period & pregnant women, will not
perform tawaf-e-wida. It is an excuse for them. (Bukhari / Muslim)

 Sacred Journey of Madina Munawara
The reward of offering a salah in Masjid-Nabavi is equal to offering a
thousand salah and the reward of offering a salah in Masjid-e-Haram is
equal to offering one lakh salat and the reward of offering a salah
in masjide aqsa is equal to offering 250 salah
If a Haji wants to travel towards Madina Munawara,he should intent for
visiting Majid-e-Nabvi SAW, However after reaching Madina he can
visit the following sacred places: (Bukhari and Muslim)
1) Visit Masjid Nabvi SAW, when a Haji enters in Masjid Nabvi SAW
he should first offer two Rakath salah of Tahiyytul Masjid However it
is much better to offer Two Rakaath Nafil salah at Riazul Jannah
(Bukhari and Muslim)
2) Visit Roze Rasool SAW:a Haji should go to Roza Rasool SAWs and
then convey salam and recite Durood in a very slow voice with great
respect and honour and offer salam to Hazrath Abubaker Siddque Rz
and Omer Farooq Rz (MUATTA)
3) Visit to Baqi Al gharqad : It is great grave yard of ( Al Baque) Madina.
a Haji should go there and pray and make istaghfar for companions of
prophet SAW(for raising their position in the sight of Allah and all
believers.

4) Visit Martyrs of Ohad : a Haji should visit graves of great Martyrs of
UHAD and pray for their high position in Akhira. (here also read some
Masnoon Duaswhich was read at (Baqui)
5) Visit to Masjid Quba : Haji Should go Masjid-e-Quba with ablution
(waddu) and offer two Rakkat Nafil salah there, whose reward is
equivalent to one Umrah (Nasai)
Note :during the stay in Madina,to offer 40 salah is not proven by any
Sahih Ahadis .however it is a great honour if a haji gets the opportunity
to offer many salah . remember there is no link of these salah to Hajj
and Umrah, (To know details please see Silsila Al-Ahadis Az Zaeefah

instead of 40 prayers which is a zaeef hadith one can see the virtue od
of offering prayers for 40 days .

 "The person who offered 40 days prayers or Jamaat with Takbir
TAHRIMA (First Takbir) will be save from two things (1) The fire of

1) After tying of Ahram, intend for Umrah

3) Do sayee of Safa & Marwah (Buqari)
4) shortening the hair completely or shaving the head (Buqari & Muslim)

Obligations of Umrah
1) Tying up of Ahram from meeqaat

Arkaan of Hajj
1) Have Intention of Hajj right from Meeqaat (Person opting for Hajj
Tamattu, should say ( é÷ †ø Ûø Âö Ôû nù fû Öø Ü$ ³ãö ×# ³Ö]) then again on 8th Zilhaj, tie up Ahram
right from this place in Makkah & Say D^ru ÔnfÖ Üã×Ö]E (2) stay in the ground
of Arfat. (3) Perform tawaf-e-Ziyarat (4) Do Sayee of Safa & Marwah.
(Buqari & Muslim) (5) shortening the hair completely or shaving the
head
Note: Among the Arkaan of Hajj, even if one rule is mistakenly missed,
then Hajj would be nullified.

Obligation of Hajj
1) Tying up of Ihram right from Meeqat. (2) Sta yi ng a t Ar fa t ti ll
Magrib. (3) , spending the night in Mazdalifa. (4) On 10th Zilhijja
pelting of 7 pebbles and only to big Jamrah by saying Allahu Akber and
on 11th & 12th zilhijja, pelting of pebbles to all the three Jamraat by
saying Allahu Akber. (5) Spending the 11th & 12th zilhaj nights in
Meena. (6)Perform tawaf-e-wida. (Muslim)
Note : If someone, intentionally / unintentionally misses an obligation ,
then sacrificing of goat will be obligatiory on him/her. The goat
should be sacrificed in Haram & its meat is to be distributed in
Makkah,the Haji, himself could not consume anything from it.

 The legitimate things in the condition of Ahram
(1) Taking bath (2) Itching of head & body (3) Having first aid &
taking of medicines (4) Putting Surma or Medicine into eyes. (5)
Killing of Poisonous Animal. (6) Changing of Ihram clothes. (7) Using
of Ring, Spectacles, Bandage or Umbrella etc. (8) Using of fragrance
free Oil & Soap. (9) Fishing in the sea. (10) Beating children for the
sake of studies & manners.
The forbidden things in the condition of Ihram & Their fine
(1) Intentionally removing or shaving the hair from any part of the
body. (2)Cutting of nails. (3) Applying fragrance (it does not mean
Fragrances of things like Tea etc.) the perfume and things which are
applied for Fragrance are forbidden). (4) Covering the head of Men. (5)
Covering the body of Men according to their body structure like,
salwar, Kameez, Banyan, Coat, Sweater, Patloon, Pyjama in normal
condition etc. and covering of face and hands of women.
Note: If any of the above said forbidden things happen mistakenly, then
there is no fine for it & if it is done intentionally, then there is fine for
it,that is to fast for 3 days or give one time meal to six needy persons or
sacrifice the goat. (Surah Al Baqrah: Ayat 192)
(6)if a haji hunts a wild / domestic animal or helps others in hunting…. Its
fine is to give its equivalent animal. (7) to get engaged or to solemnize
engagement, to get married or to solemnize Nikah is forbidden…… its
fine is to do Tauba & Istighfar. (Muslim) (8) Kissing and touching
wife….. If there is no ejaculation its fine is Touba and istighfar and if
there is a Ejaculation then its fine is to sacrifice a cow or a camel and
to distribut its flesh among poors of Makkah. (9) Having sex with
wife…. If this sex was before pelting the pebbles on Jamrah Kubra
then (1) His Hajj would be nullified . (2)also he should Complete the
Remaining things of Hajj. (3)he would also have to sacrifice a Cow or
Camel and distribute its flesh among the poors of Makkah and if this
sex is done after pelting the pebbles on Jamrah Kubra then his Hajj
would be right but he should sacrifice a goat (Hakim Bahaqhi' Muatta)
Note : In the condition of Ihram if a woman is effected with menses and if
bleeding is noticed in pregnancy then beside Tawaf she would perform
all requisitions and obligations of Hajj and Umrah. (Buqari & Muslim)
