ARTICLE 1 NAME AND LOCATION Section 1. The Name of this organization shall be Rho Kappa: Stephen F. Austin Chapter, also known as RhoK
Section 2. The organization will be based in Stephen F. Austin High School of Sugar Land, TX.
ARTICLE 2 MISSION AND GOALS Section 1. The Mission of RhoK is to allow students to expand their knowledge in fields of Social Studies, participate in various Social Studies competitions, and expand the reach of Social Studies education to the community
Section 2. The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage participation in and recognition of social studies, to advance the students knowledge of Social Studies, to communicate with the community, to aid the civic community with its comprehension of Social Studies, and to encourage students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of knowledge that benefits all mankind.
ARTICLE 3 MEMBERSHIP Section 1. Membership shall be open to all who complete the requirements of Rho Kappa and maintain the Chapters requirements for active membership.
Section 2. To become a member, individuals must pay an annual fee (that will be decided by the senior officers [described in Article 5] each year) within the set deadline of the year. Members also must fulfill the minimal requirement in order to be an associate member.
Section 3. Rho Kappas requirements include - Have completed 4 semesters of courses in the field of social studies - Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00 or the numerical value - Successfully complete required community service hours (determined by Senior Officers [described in Section 5] at the beginning of the year) and show evidence
Section 4. The Chapters requirements for active membership include - Completion of minimum point requirements (point system will be created by Senior Officers [described in Article 5] at the beginning of every year) - Maintenance of at least a B average in all Social Studies classes - Attendance of all meetings (3 strike system). An excuse form can be turned in to appeal for a pass. Section 5. Memberships can be terminated for three reasons: failure to pay dues, disruptive conduct during meetings or events, or failure to meet the minimal requirements for active membership.
ARTICLE 4 DUES Section 1. Annual dues (amount will be determined by the Senior Officers [described in Article 5] at the beginning of every year) shall be expected of members. These dues will be given to the Treasurer or Sponsor(s) of the organization at the start of every school year, by a deadline that will be selected by the Senior Officers.
Section 2. Additional fees may be imposed later in the year depending on whether or not there are enough funds to register for and attend events.
ARTICLE 5 SENIOR OFFICERS Section 1. The Senior Officers of RhoK shall be President, Senior Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Communications Director, Activities Coordinator, & Intergroup Liaison (also known as Liaison).
Section 2. Elections will take place at the end of each school year [described in Article 7]. Officer positions take effect immediately after the sponsors decide to release the results of the elections. The requirements to run for these positions are one year of active associate/full membership minimum, sponsor approval, and to currently be a junior.
Section 3. Duties of the President: The President will be the chief communicator at meetings. Will write the agenda for both meetings and officer meetings. Will decide meeting dates for officer meetings. Will be the direct link from the organization to the Sponsor(s); any requests shall be conveyed by the president. Will make sure all other officers complete their jobs.
Section 4. Duties of the Senior Vice-President: The Senior Vice-President will serve as the President when the President is unable to attend at meetings, or is unavailable. Will aid the President to conduct meetings. Will be in charge of organizing socials and transportation.
Section 5. Duties of the Secretary: The Secretary will take note off all things discussed and resolved at officer meetings. Will keeping track of attendance, and points (with aid from the Assistant Secretaries [described in Article 6]). Will act as a historian or appoint a historian each event/activity/meeting.
Section 6. Duties of the Treasurer: The Treasurer will maintain funds/budgets for the organization. Will collect dues, fees, and any donations from others. Will be the one to organize and oversee fundraisers (after getting permission from the sponsors).
Section 7. Duties of the Communications Director: The Communications Director will take care of advertisement of the Honor Society. Will manage the Facebook group, website, and any other form of communication that arises.
Section 8. Duties of the Activities Coordinator: The Activities Coordinator will coordinate activities. Will tell the sponsor to register members for competitions and other events. Will arrange for the registration in events. Will assist the Vice-President in organizing socials and transportation. Will look for more events and activities for the organization to participate in.
Section 9. Duties of the Intergroup Liaison: The Intergroup Liaison will coordinate with other organizations and clubs to create group events and keep things effective. Will report everything they learn or wish to coordinate to the Senior Officers. Will keep record of which members are in other organization and report them to the Secretary so that they can record points.
Section 10. The Senior Officers cumulatively make all the decisions for the organization. The organization moves according to their vision. All decision that do not change the basis of the organization only require a 4 out of 7 vote. Any decision that does alter the basis of the organization requires a 6 out of 7 vote.
ARTICLE 6 JUNIOR OFFICERS Section 1. The Junior Officers of RhoK shall be Junior-Vice President, Assistant Secretary, and Assistant Activities Coordinator.
Section 2. Elections will take place at the end of each school year [described in Article 7]. Officer positions take effect immediately after the sponsors decide to release the results of the elections. The requirements to run for these positions are one year of active associate/full membership minimum, sponsor approval, and to currently be a sophomore.
Section 3. Duties of the Junior Vice-President: The Junior Vice-President will aid both the President and Vice-President in anyway necessary. Will attend all officer meetings and observe the process that the organization uses to function.
Section 4. Duties of the Assistant Secretary: The Assistant Secretary will aid both the Secretary in anyway necessary. Will attend all officer meetings and observe the process that the organization uses to function.
Section 5. Duties of the Assistant Activities Coordinator: The Assistant Activities Coordinator will aid both the President and Vice-President in anyway necessary. Will attend all officer meetings and observe the process that the organization uses to function.
ARTICLE 7 ELECTIONS AND ELECTION PROCESS Section 1. The elections will take place during the month of May, the week after AP Exams have been completed.
Section 2. The Election process shall be a blind ballot in which the sponsor(s) shall count the votes for each position.
Section 3. The election process will go in this manner: Elections will be held for all positions Candidates will have the chance to give a short speech An anonymous ballot shall be taken by all members of the team The person who has the most votes shall receive the position All officers will be approved by sponsor, and then be made official
Section 4. If an officer is impeached at any point throughout the year (only the sponsor has this authority), the position will be transferred to the person the sponsor deems as most fit to have that position.
ARTICLE 8 ADMENDING THE CONSTITUTION Section 1. Amendments are done by senior officers with a 6 out of 7 vote.
Section 2. Amendments may declare a portion of the constitution void, improve upon a current statement in the constitution, or create a new article titled Amendment [#].
