Ubicacin El Archipilago de Juan Fernndez est localizado en la V regin de Valparaso, a 667 Km. de Chile Continental, frente a las costas del puerto de San Antonio. Las tres islas que conforman el Archipilago son: Isla Robinson Crusoe, la ms oriental, con una superficie de 4.794 hectreas, acompaada de los islotes Verdugo, Los Chamelos, Vinilla, Juanango, entre otros Isla Santa Clara, a 0,5 Km al sudoeste de la isla Robinson Crusoe, con 221 hectreas de superficie. Isla Alejandro Selkirk, la ms occidental a 187 kilmetros al oeste de Robinson Crusoe, con 4.952 hectreas. Geografa. El Archipilago de Juan Fernndez consta de tres islas Robinson Crusoe, Marinero Alejandro Selkirk y Santa Clara. Son islas espordicas: solitarias en la inmensidad ocenica y no constituyen un archipilago propiamente tal. A Robinson Crusoe se le ha descrito de forma media luna, o de orca saltando sobre las aguas rumbo hacia el este. El permetro es largo y muy angosto, corre en su mayor longitud de este a suroeste. La superficie es de 93 Km. En la costa noroccidental se encuentra el islote Juanango, cuya apariencia da el nombre a la baha Pan de Azcar. Delante de las costas que enfrentan al sur, frente a la baha de Villagra, se hayan otros islotes como Vinilla y Los Chamelos. Al oriente, cerca de puerto Francs, se encuentra el islote Verdugo. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Location Juan Fernndez Archipelago is located in Region V of Valparaiso, at 667 Km. From Chile Continental, in front of the shores of San Antonio port. The three islands conforming the Archipelago are: Robinson Crusoe Island, the most oriental, with a 4,794 hectare surface, accompanied by islets Verdugo, Los Chamelos, Vinilla, Juanango, among others. Santa Clara Island located at 0.5 Km at the south-west of Robinson Crusoe Island with 221 hectares of surface. Miles de aos despus volvi a ocurrir un fenmeno similar a 180 Km. del lugar de la primera explosin. Esta vez se cre la isla Marinero Alejandro Selkirk, con su gran formacin montaosa Los Inocentes, de 1.650 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Clima El Archipilago de Juan Fernndez posee un clima templado mediterrneo con fuerte influencia ocenica, lo que hace que la distribucin estacional de las precipitaciones en un ao normal concentre un 59% entre mayo y agosto. Sin embargo, de diciembre a febrero, se registra la mayor the seasonal distribution of precipitations in a normal year concentrates 59% between May and August. Flora Juan Fernndez Archipelago features for having a vegetal composition of scientific importance, it is one of the places of greatest interest in the world. Its flora has a high variety endemism, species, genders, and even families. The Archipelago has more than 400 species of plants among which there are 53 ferns. These plants are represented in 73 families and 219 genders. There is only one endemic family (Lactoridaceae), 12 endemic genders and 126 endemic species. Endemic plants are in the main ecological zones of the islands and definitely in their fragile status. 75% of species are extinct, threaten, odd or occasional. The plants of the Archipelago could be analyzed according to origin, in the categories of introduced, native and endemic. Through the history of the islands from their discovery in 1574, a great number of introduced species has been accumulated. From the 213 genders in total, half of them (107) are introduced. It is one of the places with greatest botanical interest of the world, its flora is noticeable for being exclusive in the place, such as Chonta Palm, Small Orange Tree, Cinnamon tree of Juan Fernndez, Apple tree of Juan Fernndez, Michay, Sandalwood (today extinct) and diverse tree and climbing ferns. precipitacin (30 mm). El la Isla Robinson Crusoe se observan diferencias climticas notables entre la Baha Cumberland, por el norte y Punta Isla por el sur, siendo esta ltima ms seca y estable. Estas diferencias se deben a la influencia de la topografa. Flora El archipilago Juan Fernndez se caracteriza por tener una composicin vegetal de importancia cientfica, es uno de los lugares de mayor inters del mundo. Su flora de alto endemismo de variedades, especies, gneros, e incluso familias. El archipilago contiene mas de 400 especies de plantas, dentro de las cuales hay 53 hel echos. Fauna Differentiating from the great vegetal diversity, endemic species of fauna are poor, there is absolute absence of native species of reptiles and terrestrial mammals. Only 11 species of bird fauna and one endemic sea mammal are contained in this special spine fauna of the Archipelago. There is a coexistence of species introduced from the continent, some of which are weed-grown and cause diverse levels of damages, both in the vegetable resource as in soils. In the Robinson Crusoe island, the endemic and showy Red Hummingbird of Juan Fernndez surprises for its great beauty, gracile flight and strong singing. Other endemic species is the Cachudito of Juan Fernndez, from which there are hundreds of samples. Its habitat are dense forests, its survival is in danger due to rodents predating eggs or chicks, present solely in Robinson Crusoe Island, the same as the Cerncalo [kestrel] and Neque. The abundance of pelagic birds draws the attention, among which we can emphasize for its number, various types of fardelas: common white, black of Juan Fernndez and white from Ms a Tierra. They live in large colonies and nest in caves or the density of fern forests. The only native mammal existing in the island is the South American Fur Seal or from Juan Fernndez. This mammal exists in Robinson Crusoe and Alejandro Selkirk. During the first half of the last century, due to the value of said species in European markets, diverse hunting expedi t i ons were organi zed, practically extinguishing it. At the beginning of the XX century there were only 10 samples in the Archipelago. The sea fauna is characterized by the great density of fish, mollusks, shell fish and other invertebrata, most of them endemic. Most frequent fish species in the island are: mackerel, Pampanito, Pez Volador, Codfish or Rock Bass, Pandora and Vidriola. En la Isla Robinson Crusoe el endmico y llamativo Picaflor Rojo de Juan Fernndez, sorprende por su gran belleza, grcil vuelo y fuerte canto. Otra especie endmica es el Cachudito de Juan Fernndez, del cual existen varios centenares de ejemplares. Su hbitat es el espeso bosque, su supervivencia est en peligro a causa de los roedores que predan los huevos y polluelos, presente nicamente en Isla Robinson Crusoe, al igual que el Cerncalo y el Neque. Llama la atencin la abundancia de aves pelgicas, entre las que se destacan por su nmero varias clases de fardelas: blanca comn, negra de Juan Fernndez y blanca de Ms a Tierra. Viven en grandes colonias y anidan en cuevas o en la espesura de los bosques de helechos. El nico mamfero autctono existente es el Lobo de Mar de Dos Pelos o de Juan Fernndez. Este mamfero existe en Robinson Crusoe y en Alejandro Selkirk. Durante la primera mitad del siglo pasado, debido al gran valor de esta especie en mercados europeos, se organizaron vari as expedi ci ones de caza, llevndolo casi a la extincin. A principios del siglo XX slo se contabilizaron 10 ejemplares en el Archipilago. La fauna marina se caracteriza por la gran densidad de peces, moluscos, crustceos y otros invertebrados, mucho de ellos endmicos. Las especies de peces ms frecuentes en la isla son: jurel, pampanito, pez volador, bacalao o salmn de roca, breca y vidriola. Entre las especies de fauna marina: la langosta de Juan Fernndez, el recurso que sustenta, bsicamente, la economa islea. Msica La msica en la Isla Robinson Crusoe comienza a comienzos del ao 1915, con la batalla del Crucero Dresden. El primer cantautor que los pobladores ms antiguos recuerdan es el Seor Joaqun Rojas. Luego fue la Seora Julia Arredondo. La mayora de sus canciones se basan en hechos histricos, en la flora y en la fauna de la isla o bien en ancdotas de la poblacin. En el ao 1978 se inici el renombrado Festival de La Langosta, hoy perdido en el tiempo. Su ltima edicin fue en el ao 1985. En este festival se exponan las voces mas destacadas del poblado, en una competencia que el primer lugar fue premiado con una langosta viva en su primera versin. Luego paso a ser una Langosta de Bronce. En la dcada del 60, Daniel Paredes Recabarren, pescador artesanal, se inspira en las leyendas y relatos del Juan Fernndez, a resource that basically sustains the economy of the island. Ascend for about 100 meters until the SNUPIE Nr. 2, which indicates the arrival to the Cave of the Patriots. The national history tells about this place that after the Desastre de Rancagua, in the year 1815, about 300 patriots were exiled to this island, among them, Juan Enrique Rosales and his daughter, who exiled voluntarily to take care of her father; Manuel de Salas, Ignacio Carrera, Manuel Blanco Encalada and other notables of that time, they found a shelter in these caves, and it is believed that they were initially excavated by the first prisoners. Se encuentran a pocos metros del Fuerte Santa Brbara, correspondiente al SNUPIE N3, el cual, por mandato de la colonia espaola, fue construido por el Ingeniero Sobrecasas, cuya obra termin en el ao 1750. Este es el nico fuerte espaol en una isla espordica del Ocano Pacfico, lo que nos entrega una pieza histrica de inigualable valor. Siguiendo por su frente se llega a una esquina coronada por una rosa de vientos que indica la orientacin norte de este extremo del fuerte, caracterstica singular de las fortificaciones hispanas en Amrica. En la parte superior an se aprecian algunos caones del tiempo de la colonia que permitan reforzar la defensa colonial de los piratas y corsarios que buscaban abastecerse en esta baha. En este lugar funciona la biblioteca pblica local, un saln de exposicin audiovisual, una muestra al aire libre de piezas blicas y navales de la Primera y Segunda Guerra Mundial, reliquias de antiguos colonos, antecedentes literarios de la novela universal de Daniel Defoe Robinson Crusoe y piezas de navos rescatadas de los fondos ocenicos, donde destacan objetos pertenecientes al crucero Dresden, ltimo navo de la flota alemana del Ocano Pacifico en la Primera Guerra Mundial. Despus de deleitarse con todo el contenido de ese verdadero banco de datos, se retomar el recorrido por Calle Larran Alcalde. Por esta arteria se accede a la Calle Dresden, donde se encuentra al final el SNUPIE N6, correspondiente al Cementerio. Como en todo asentamiento, la historia del poblado tiene su impronta en su Cementerio. Aqu el poblado San Juan Bautista rinde tributo a la memoria, de personajes tales como el Barn Alfredo de Rodt (1905), primer encargado de colonizacin; Eduardo Paredes Recabarren, el primer guardaparque de Chile; y un recordatorio a los cados en el hundimiento del crucero alemn Dresden(1915). Al salir de este lugar, hay que caminar hacia el mar a travs de un sendero que circunda al Cementerio, entre los acantilados y la costa, se encuentra el Faro Cumberland. Pasando esta obra y despus de pocos metros, se llega al Area de Bombardeo Ingls, al Dresden, SNUPIE N7. La historia cuenta que un Martes 9 de Marzo del ao 1915, aparece en baha Cumberland el crucero alemn Dresden. La nave encuentra descanso, abrigo y abastecimiento bsico. El Domingo 14, arriban a la baha los cruceros ingleses Kent y Glasgow y el transporte armado Orama, los que arrojan una secuencia imparable de caonazos, dejando huella en este acantilado, donde se pueden ver algunos impactos. Se aprecian todava proyectiles incrustados en estas paredes volcnicas. Pasando la Punta Bacalao se ven las siluetas imponentes de los acantilados que forman el singular litoral de esta nsula. Llegando a Puerto Francs, SNUPIE N3, se ve que esta ensenada posee en su entorno, una morfologa donde la erosin elica ha moldeado el lugar, originando verdaderas esculturas cilndricas. Dejando Puerto Francs, se llega a la Punta Hueso de Ballena, donde se encuentra el Islote Verdugo, verdadera cresta de roca volcnica de extraa silueta que emerge hasta los 157 metros de altura, teniendo de fondo Punta Isla y la Isla Santa Clara. Costeando la Playa Larga, se divisa la formacin La Ballena, denominada as por el pequeo orificio en la roca, semejante a los ojos de este cetceo. Esta formacin apunta a los Islotes Los Chamelos, cuyas paredes submarinas son deleite de los amantes del buceo. Desde ac se aprecia el frente sur del Cerro El Yunque y el acantilado que cae al mar. Pasando entre estos islotes y la formacin La Ballena, se llega a la Baha de Villagra, que sirve de refugio a las embarcaciones que no alcanzan a llegar al poblado. En su borde oriental, se encuentran los Ramplones, SNUPIE N4, los que, con su ensenada, permiten recalar en este lugar y disfrutar, desde sus piscinas de rocas planas, la pesca de especies tales como jurel (caranx georgianus) y panpanito (chromis intercusma), entre otras. Desde ac se ve como l a Rut a Pat r i moni al I V Entendiendo a Robinson Crusoe, de desarrolla entre la ladera sur de las formaciones volcnicas de la isla. Saliendo de Ramplones y cruzando la Baha Villagra, se debe pasar para acercarse al Islote Vinilla y a la Baha Chupones. Al pasar esta baha y su punta homnima, se llega a la Ensenada La Barraca, SNUPIE N5, donde hay que insertarse en el margen norte de la gran colonia del lobo fino de Juan Fernndez (arctocephalus philippi). En esta ensenada los pescadores arreglaban y armaban sus embarcaciones cuando haban sido daadas por el mal estado de la marea. Desde la Ensenada La Barraca al sur, alcanzamos la Baha Tierras Blancas, see majestic silhouettes of cliffs that make up the singular littoral of this isle. It looks like a volcanic rock peak of a strange silhouette rising up to 157 meters, with Punta Isla and Santa Clara Island as its background. Leaving Los Ramplones and crossing Baha Villagra, you have to get closer to Vinilla Islet and Chupones Bay. Siguiendo la seal se puede visitar, pocos metros ms abajo, la renombrada Piedra con Letras, la que muestra un grabado donde est la firma del colono isleo Pedro Arredondo, bajo los dibujos de un bacalao y una chonta (Juania australis), palma endmica de la isla. La erosin producida hace dcadas se refleja en los soportes metlicos que acompaan una caera que abastece de agua al poblado. Como en otros lugares, en el SNUPIE N2, ubicado en el sector de El Guindal, se encuentran especies vegetales adventicias o introducidas, t al es como zarzamora (rubus ulmifolius), maqui (aristotelia chilensis), y murtilla (ugni molinae), que son consideradas plagas de la isla, propagadas por el zorzal (tordus falklanii) que, mediante sus fecas, propaga las semillas, siendo un problema para el bosque endmico. Volviendo la vista hacia la quebrada, en primer plano se observan algunos ejemplares de eucalipto (eucalyptus globulus) y, en segundo plano, pino insigne (pinus radiata), los que sirvieron para reforestar el sector, dada las necesidades producidas por la escasez de madera y control de erosin. En el sector del Morro del Medio, SNUPIE N3, se observa como las especies introducidas ahogan al bosque endmico, causando en algunos casos, la muerte. A un costado del SNUPIE N3, se ve un ejemplar de luma de ruta 4 st.FH11 Mon Dec 10 09:57:38 2007 Page 4 Composite Masatierra (myrceugenia fernandeziana), especie que abunda en este sector. En el SNUPIE N4, se encuentra a un costado del blechnum chilense o costilla de vaca, que est siendo ahogado por un maqui (aristotelia chilensis). Esta situacin se repite a lo largo del sendero hasta el SNUPIE 11, lo que demuestra la interaccin de las especies introducidas con las nativas y endmicas. Si sigue avanzando, llegar al SNUPIE N5, que se encuentra muy prximo a la primera aguada. En este lugar se puede observar un helecho endmico de grandes proporciones llamado thyrsopteris elegans, especie vegetal vulnerable, conocida solamente con ese nombre o como helecho arbreo. Se est aproximando a la primera y nica aguada, hacia el Mirador de Selkirk (SNUPIE 18). Desde aqu encontrar mayor abundancia de especies endmicas. Ll egando al SNUPIE N 6, encontrar el sector de La Aguada, donde est la nica aguada disponible antes de llegar al Mirador de Selkirk (SNUPIE 18), aunque se recomienda llevar consigo agua embotellada. Al lado del SNUPIE se puede apreciar un helecho endmico denominado polisticum tetragonum y, adems, en el lecho del agua, se encuentran algunos ejemplares de gunnera bracteata, conocida como nalca o panque. Al lado del SNUPIE N7, se puede ver un helecho de fronda triangular, en el cual se aprecia que el tallo tiene dos canales o tres costillas y corresponde a un ejemplar de rumohra berteroana. Es un helecho endmico de la isla muy abundante y resistente a las plantas introducidas. Ms abajo, a ras de suelo, hay dos ej empl ar es endmi cos denominados haloragis masatierrana, arbusto pequeo de hoja cerrada y, ms abajo, un erigeron fernandezianus. Llegando al SNUPIE N8, alcanzar el primer mirador que la ruta proporciona, donde podr apreciar la Baha Cumberland. Nombre que proviene de las observaciones de Lord Anson en el ao 1740 y que significa baha de la obstruccin, debido a las grandes cantidades de piedras de bombas volcnicas encontradas en la costa. Besides the SNUPIE you could appreciate an endemic fern called polisticum tetragonum and, in addition, in the water bed you could find some samples of gunnera bracteata, known as nalca or panque. Besides the SNUPIE Nr. 7, you could observe a fern of triangular frond, where you appreciate that the stem has two channels or three ribs and it corresponds to a sample of rumohra berteroana. En este tramo, el bosque nativo no logra su mayor densidad, se encuentra en la ladera norte o de solana de la isla, lo que no le permite captar la misma humedad que en la ladera sur o de solana. Este tramo se inicia en el Mirador de La Virgen, SNUPIE N10, hasta el Mirador de Selkirk, SNUPIE N18. Llegando al sector del Bosque Mirador, en el SNUPIE N11, ingresa al bosque endmico, rodeado de helechos y arboles, mayoritariamente luma de Masatierra (myrceugenia fernandeziana) y canelo de Juan Fernndez (drimys confertifolia). In this segment, native forest does not reach its highest density. En el sector La Cueva, y en el entorno del SNUPIE N12 se aprecian algunos ejemplares arbreos endmicos de la isla. Hacia abajo, se observan ejemplares de canelo de Juan Fernndez (drimys confertifolia), y justamente arriba del SNUPIE emerge un tronco de naranjillo (fagara mayu), ambas especies se confunden dada la presencia de la luma d e Ma s a t i e r r a ( my r c e u g e n i a fernandeziana). Cabe destacar que el naranjillo es el rbol que alcanza mayor altura dentro de las especies arbreas insulares. En el SNUPIE N13, sector La Vertiente, se encuentra en una de las curvas de esta ruta, donde nuevamente enfrentamos a un ejemplar de luma de Masatierra (myrceugenia fernandeziana). Si mira tras el SNUPIE apreciar como circula el agua que ha sido atrapada por la isla mediante la captacin de nieblas martimas, producido por las formaciones volcnicas y la vegetacin, proveyendo de este vital recurso a todo el sistema bitico de la Isla Robinson Crusoe. Llegando al SNUPIE N14, entrar en el sector de El Canelo. Si presta atencin a los sonidos del entorno, podra sentir el canto del picaflor rojo de Juan Fernndez (sephanoides fernandensis), que se mezcla con el trino suave del cachudito de Juan Fernndez (anairetes fernandezianus). Desde este punto puede ver como la ruta recibe los efectos de los rodados de piedra y el paso del ganado que transita, desde y hacia el poblado, generando serios problemas de erosin que, conjuntamente con las sucesivas lluvias, desgastan la ruta. Si ha tenido la oportunidad de apreciar una diversidad de especies floristicas, debe considerar la observacin de la flora islea, primeros habitantes de este paisaje, los lquenes, musgos y helechos. En la pared posterior al SNUPIE N15, podr apreciar tres tipos de especies colonizadoras de las rocas porosas volcnicas. Al llegar al SNUPIE N16, ver que inmediatamente arriba se encuentra una nalca o panque (gunnera bracteata). E n e l S NUP I E N 1 8 , correspondiente al Mirador de Selkirk, culmina este tramo, donde conocer el trayecto que Alejandro Selkirk, desde 1704 y durante 4 aos y 4 meses realizaba, buscando afanosamente apreciar desde el norte o desde el sur alguna nave o embarcacin que le permitiera abandonar su larga espera. Eso slo ocurri un 31 de enero de 1709. Adems de asimilar la ruta utilizada por l, es posible entender la panormica que Selkirk necesitaba para divisar algn navo y buscar ayuda, ya que desde este punto se aprecia casi la totalidad de los tramos que restan hasta el Aerdromo (SNUPIE N25) y, de derecha a izquierda, el Cerro Tres Puntas, la Punta Isla y la Isla Santa Clara. En situaciones atmosfricas favorables, se puede ver la Isla Alejandro Selkirk o Ms Afuera, la que aparece levemente al costado derecho del Cerro Tres Puntas, siguiendo el horizonte. En este SNUPIE se observa el Pueblo San Juan Bautista, y siguiendo al oeste por la lnea de altas cumbres, algunos ejemplares de chonta (juania australis), palma caracterstica de la isla y una de sus especies vulnerables, y la tradicional luma de Masatierra (myrceugenia fernandeziana), la cual lo ha acompaado a travs de gran parte de esta ruta patrimonial. introduced species, such as, the blechnum chilense or cow rib. When you arrive to Villagra, SNUPIE N19, you will see a LLEGAMOS AL MIRADOR BAJO LAS TRES PUNTAS. ruta 4 st.FH11 Mon Dec 10 09:57:38 2007 Page 20 Composite toda la Bahia Villagra y la Punta del Gualpn, formaciones litorales que dominan la costa sur de la Isla Robinson Crusoe, algunos refugios de los ganaderos y del Parque Nacional y tras estos, un rectngulo cercado donde se realiza cada ao un particular rodeo de marcaje de animales. Desde aqu ver el SNUPIE N20, correspondiente al Plan El Gualpn, y el Cerro Tres Puntas. Siga divisando la Isla Santa Clara, los Islotes Chamelos y los Ramplones, verdaderas piscinas naturales formadas de roca volcnica erosionada y, moldeada en forma de bloques por la fuerza de las olas, ubicadas en el margen oriental de la Baha Villagra. El sector del Plan el Gualpn tiene ese nombre ya que detrs de esta silueta que termina en punta existe un acantilado de gran altura que forma un verdadero galpn natural. Tenga la precaucin de no dirigirse hacia ese sector. Como fauna nativa ocasionalmente se ve el nuco o neque (asio flammeus), de la familia de las lechuzas y bhos. Llegando al final del tramo, SNUPIE N21, observar hacia el mar los Islotes Chamelos, tres peones o islotes que se desprenden de la silueta del borde oriental de la Baha Villagra. Ms hacia la izquierda, frente a nosotros, las formaciones rocosas de los Ramplones, en donde nace la silueta de las faldas de la cara sur del Cerro El Yunque. Siga en la misma direccin, donde destaca la formacin cncava del Gualpn. Se puede apreciar la ruta recorrida en su plenitud. En algunas secciones del camino, se observan rodados que muestran la dinmica espacial que acelera los procesos morfolgicos y atmosfricos. Se puede apreciar desde lo alto algunos acantilados y hacia el frente el islote Vinilla, adems de algunas especies de matorral.,como la infaltable murtilla (ugni molinae). Se ven los Islotes Chamelos, terminando en el Mirador de Selkirk, pasando por la gran formacin del cerro El Yunque. La vegetacin va disminuyendo, predominando las especies adventicias. Podemos decir que a menor altura, menor diversidad de especies. El SNUPIE N23 se encuentra en la formacin de Punta Chupones, que separa baha Chupones, por el Norte, y Baha Tierras Blancas por el Sur. Mirando la silueta del cerro El Yunque podemos apreciar, a su derecha, las formas de los cerros La Pascua y La Pia, las reservas naturales de mayor conservacin en toda la isla. La ruta sigue bajando de altura hasta que los colores plidos dominan sobre el dbil verdor de la pradera. Es la llegada al SNUPIE N24, en el sector de Tierras Blancas, aqu se aprecia lo que falta para llegar al aerdromo y, la Isla de Santa Clara, al fondo del macizo costero en el que se encuentra la colonia de lobo fino de Juan Fernndez (arctocephalus philippi). Es el ms grande de la Isla Robinson Crusoe, sus sonidos se pueden escuchar desde estas alturas. En el sector norte, un brazo cae hacia el mar dividiendo la baha Tierras Blancas y baha Chupones. En este sector se pueden apreciar algunos ejemplares de cerncalo (falco sparverius fernandensis), ave rapaz pequea de color rojizo que se alimenta del conejo europeo (oryctolagus cuniculus), una de las plagas que afecta a la isla en las ltimas dcadas. Las comunidades de conejos han erosionado las laderas y el suel o, despr ovi st o ya por el sobrepastoreo de cabras y ovejas. Pasando el portal de acceso al Parque Nacional, ingrese al sector del Aerdromo, SNUPIE N25, una de las infraestructuras que sustenta la economa de esta isla. Desde Octubre de 1966 se puede decir que la Isla Robinson Crusoe a sido conectada va area al continente, con un lugar seguro para aterrizar. Al llegar al comienzo de la cuesta de descenso al atracadero, est el SNUPIE N26, una privilegiada vista a Baha del Padre, de forma circular con una pequea entrada hacia el oeste y con una formacin rocosa en su borde oriental llamada La Capilla, caracterstica por su perforacin transversal en el interior. La baha est compuesta por una playa de bombas volcnicas. En las paredes se pueden apreciar estratos de color rojizo, gris y blanco que demuestran la actividad volcnica que dio origen a estas islas. La Pennsula de Punta Isla, en primer plano, y la Isla de Santa Clara, en segundo plano, son las formaciones ms antiguas de todo el Archipilago de Juan Fernndez. Hacia el este se ve un sector de superficie calcrea, plenamente deteriorado por el pastoreo masivo de principios del siglo XX que termin por arrasar la vegetacin y el suelo. Tras este sector se encuentra uno de los pocos mrgenes costeros de la isla Robinson Crusoe, donde existe una playa de material fino: El Arenal, un lugar privilegiado para el nacimiento de las cras del lobo fino de Juan Fernndez (arctocephalus philippi). Finalizando esta ruta, se debe descender por la mencionada cuesta, desde el SNUPIE N26, hasta el Atracadero. Aqu se encuentra en el SNUPIE N27, ubicado en la Baha del Padre, al SW de Robinson Crusoe. En este muelle se realizan las maniobras de transbordo de los pasajeros que arriban a la isla, por lo cual este SNUPIE sirve de conexin entre este circuito y los Circuitos Martimos Por el Sotavento y Por el Barlovento. En la baha se encuentra una comunidad de lobo fino de Juan Fernndez (arctocephalus philippi), la primera colonia de que toma contacto con el visitante desde su arribo a la isla. Este lobo fue matado y exportado por mucho tiempo, llegando casi a la extincin, por embarcaciones en su mayora francesas que llevaron grandes cantidades de esta especie, utilizado su cuero en la fabricacin de botas para los oficiales del ejercito de Napolen Bonaparte. La presentacin que hizo Dampier de Selkirk, hizo que fuera nombrado de inmediato como marinero. Selkirk volvi a Largo a comienzos de la primavera de 1712 y all vivi la vida de un recluso, hacindose, con el objeto de meditar, una especie de caverna en el jardn de la casa de su padre. Quienes lo conocieron lo describen como un hombre razonable con una expresin animosa y fuerte. Con el tiempo Selkirk entr como marinero jefe del Weymouth el 20 de octubre de 1720 y al ao siguiente, falleci a bordo. Ubilla hizo contactos secretos con los britnicos, lo que se traduce, luego de la muerte de Ubilla, en que el capitn Cornelius Webb, a bordo de la nave Unicorn, arriba a este archipilago para rescatar el tesoro de Ubilla. Cuando el marino ingls pretenda regresar a Inglaterra con el botn, lo sorprendi una tormenta que quebr el mstil del Unicorn" y debi regresar a la isla, ocultando nuevamente el fabuloso cargamento. Luego Webb naveg hacia Valparaso con la intencin de reparar su navo y as cumplir su misin. Al descubrir el capitn ingls planes de amotinamiento en la tripulacin, opt por quemar la nave con su tripulacin y volver a las costas de Valparaso en un bote a remos como nico sobreviviente del naufragio.
