Abstract:
The experiment was about the
electromotive force of a cell and battery, it
is evident that every cell has an internal
resistance and was determined with the use
of electromotive, resistance and current. The
parts of cell were also observed by cutting
the cell in half and the very visible part was
the anode and cathode.
I. Methodology

Activity 1: Parts of a Cell

The cell was cut in half.

Figure 1: Shows the cell which is cut in half

.
Activity 2: Electromotive Force and
Internal Resistance of a Cell.

The EMF of the cell was determined
by connecting the multimeter as a voltmeter
across the terminals of the cell. In a series
pattern a knows resistance was connected
and again by the multimeter function as a
ammeter the current was measured delivered
in the circuit. The internal resistance was
measured using the equation r=

above.

Figure 2: Shows the actual set-up of a cell
connected in a series with a knows resistance.

Activity 3: Combinations of Cells

The cells was connected in a series
and parallel connection and its internal
resistance as well as its EMF was
determined the same as the method used in
activity 2. The current in both connection
was also determined using the multimeter
functioning as a ammeter.

Figure 3: Shows the combination of cells in a
series connection.

Figure 4: Shows the combinatons of the cell
connected in a parallel connection.

II. Results and Discussions

Activity 1:

Figure 5: Drawing of the cell.

When the cell was cut into half the
most visible part was the anode and cathode,
where in the picture the more darker shade
part in the center was the cathode and lighter
shade surrounding the cathode was the
anode.

Table 1: Shows the amount value of the E, I, R
and r of the cell connected with a knows resistance
in series connection.

It is written in the outside the cell that it has
a 9V EMF but when a multimeter was
connected in the cells terminals and the
voltage was measured it is less than 9V this
is because of the internal resistance that is
present in the cell that also generates
resistance in the circuit.
The cell internal resitance was measured by
the formula given above.

Table 2: Shows the results of E, I, R and r of the
combinationbs of cells in a series and parallel
connections.
It shows that when the cells are
connected in a series form the E increases as
the number of cells increases which is
simply E
T
=E while when the cells are
conneted in a parallel form the E is just
equivalent in a one cells E and only
identical cells must be connected in a
parallel connection.
