Main entry pro#ides a #ie! of the +uadranle buildin !ea#in the old and ne! toether #isually. )ach pa#ilion has its o!n indi#idual e,pression to the public on 'omain (oad. $he seminar rooms cantile#er to!ard the street. (eflecti#e glass louvers pro#ides t!o functions- allo! cinematic #ie!s to the ardens and at the same time protectin some pri#acy from the street. Main body of the library comprises a series of iant steel framed !indo!s of #aryin shapes !ith a series of o#erlaid patterns to lass !ithin. $he patternin alludes to the random ashlar bloc& !or& of the buildins on site. .rom the inside, the #arious !indo!s frame ser#es a different #ie!s to the reenery arden beyond. Main boo& collections in the library are stored in the boo& stac& pa#ilion !hich is clad in a burnished bric& !ith its o!n bond. $he bond includes se#eral #ertical bric&s stac&ed on end and the main !all folds bac& to hihliht these boo&%li&e bric&s set into the surface. $he o#erall architecture design of the buildin offers an out!ard focused learnin for its students as it captured the multitude of landscape and conte,tual #ie!s of the city. $he boo& stac& pa#ilion opens !ith a massi#e !indo! to!ard the main sportin field. A lass lin& for administrati#e functions brushes close to the intricate roof pediments and /uoinin of the oriinal /uadranlebuildin. $his is School of Music and 0erformin Arts 1enter of West 1hester 2ni#ersity in 0ennsyl#ania desined by MGA 0artners. $he desin concept is a sustainable buildin anchors the campus arts precinct to become a cultural resource for the reional community. MGA 0artners is responsible for the desin, documentation and construction administration of the project, as !ell as fundraisin support. $he desin creates a dual identity !ithin a sinle buildin- the S!ope School of Music and a 0erformin Arts 1enter. $o accomplish this, the t!o primary areas of the buildin are united around a courtyard that ser#es as the front porch of the comple,. $he courtyard creates a memorable ceremonial route into the buildin, immersin people in the art of performance as they approach the buildin. It also offers a separation and respite from the adjacent lare par&in lot ser#in this section of campus. $he comple, is sited to create an enain path from the main campus. $he portion of he buildin closest to main campus is the School of Music, !hose lare cur#in !all creates a lyrical presence for the school. $his !all encloses the school"s library on the round floor and music practice rooms on the upper floors, !hich fill the main !al& !ith sound and life. Arri#in at the courtyard, #isitors proceed throuh a lass pa#ilion into the lobby. $he lobby connects a 345%seat performance hall, a 675%seat recital hall and an art allery. $hebuildin has been desined to e,actin acoustic standards both for the /uality of sound !ithin each room and the control of sound bet!een rooms. An open landscape !ith smaller #olumes, as houses !ithin the house, creates a rich inner school atmosphere. ;ecause of the compact buildin #olume !e ha#e achie#ed short distances and almost no corridors. $he compact plan in#ites to acti#ity and use, !ith openness and connecti#ity in the inner school landscape. Some of the rooms are MIn#erseN A outdoors atriums cut out of the buildin mass and allo!s dayliht to penetrate the buildin. $he main entrance to the east leads into a circular open schoolyard atrium !hich is placed in the centre of the buildin #olume. $he school layout is sol#ed !ith a hue deree of #ariation in its internal room composition. $he three different years uses three different areas !ithin the plan, and there"s an emphasis on the use of fle,ibility in spatial solutions and possibilities for multi use and shared functions. 'ifferent parts of the school can be closed to create spaces that can be used separately at niht time. Dutside the school there are areas !ith different /ualities, both urban and reen areas A !hich contrast and supplement each other. $he school buildin !ith adjacent outdoor areas !ill toether !ith the future sports facilities be a coherent comple, !ith both functional and architectonic /ualities.
