1. Architect from Direct Matrix Architecture to V-Max: Virtual Matrix
Architecture
with Virtual Matrix technology, the directors are now physically interconnected via a
dual-star network.
- Direct Matrix Architecture: A disk enclosure was accessible by 2 disk director with
rule of 17, A disk director was accessible by all DMX Global Cache director. A host
director was accessible by all DMX Global Cache director
- With the new VMAX, if lossing director, half of the channels to its managed disk
enclosure are lost and half of the channels to its host or its remote partner (SRDF
ports) are also lost.

2. Larger Volume Support
- Max logical volume size of 240GB for open systems (59GB on DMX4) and 223GB
for mainframe systems
- 512 hyper-volumes extensions per drive (256 with DMX4)
3. Dynamic Provisioning:
Enhancements related to SRDF and BCV device attributes will overall improve
efficiency during configuration management. Will provide methods and means for
faster provisioning.

4. Concurrent Configuration Changes:

Enhancements to concurrent configuration changes will allow the customer and
customer engineer to perform through Service Processor and through Solutions
enabler certain procedures and changes that can be all combined and executed
through a single script rather than running them in a series of changes.

5. Enhanced Virtual LUN Technology
Enhancements related to Virtual LUN Technology will allow customers to non-
disruptively perform changes to the location of disk either physically or logically and
further simplify the process of migration on various systems.
6. Virtual Provisioning (thin-provisioning)

- Virtual Provisioning (thin-provisioning)
- Now supports RAID 5 and RAID 6 devices
You can now shrink a thin-provisioning pool

7. Autoprovisioning Groups:
- Using Autoprovisiong groups, customers will now be able to perform device
masking by creating host initiators, front-end ports and storage volumes.
- V-Max Initiator group
- V-Max Port group
- Storage or device group
8. SRDF Enhancements
300% better performance with Timefinder and other SRDF layered application using
RAID 5 and 6

9. FAST(Fully Automated Storage Tiering)
- Older verison prior Enginuity 5875 FAST V1 provided policy-based optimization at
the Full LUN level(Thick)
- with Enginuity 5875, VMAX FAST VP(Fully Automated Storage Tiering Virtual
Pools)provides sub-LUN automated optimization
- But FAST VP is licensed feature.
