The iPhone was introduced to the public on January 9, 2007 in a keynote address given by Apple
Inc!s "#$ %teve Jobs &e'ore the introduction o' iPhone, there had been huge speculation that
Apple had been developing a (obile phone device since Apple was re)uired by the law to apply
'or several patents and per(its and such 'ilings are usually (ade available to the public The
iPhone went on sale in June 2007 and it was initially available to the custo(ers in the *%A only
+ater on the 'irst generation o' iPhone (odel also known as iPhone 2, -since it lacks .,
capability/ was released in *0, 1rance, ,er(any, Ireland, and Austria The 'irst2generation

sub(it these applications to Apple Apple then reviews these applications and i' approved, they
are listed in App %tore The developer can choose to either distribute an application 'or 'ree, or
set a sale price o' hisEher choice The developer will receive 70F o' revenue share o' their
applications sale and Apple will keep .0F o' the revenue share Just within two years o' the
introduction o' the iPhone %A0 and iPhone Aeveloper Progra(, there are (ore than 22G,000

The iPhone $% is a (obile operating syste( developed by Apple Inc %ince the introduction
o' the iPhoneand the iPod Touch, it has been included as the de'ault operating syste( o' the
devices, and has been announced as the de'ault operating syste( 'or the upco(ing Apple

stretched using 'ingures to increase visibility and it will also give an option to go back to the (ain
view so that users (ay check the ti(etable o' other lines in this application as shown in 1igure

This application has been tested on an iPhone si(ulator and can be sub(itted to Apple 'or sale
in the App %tore This is a si(ple but a very use'ul application 'or co((uters in Turku It can be
especially use'ul in situations when a user wants to 'ind the ti(etable o' a local bus but does not
have access to the Internet
Although this above (entioned sa(ple iPhone application is a si(ple application, it can be really
use'ul &ased on the coding o' this application, (any other use'ul applications can be developed

This thesis work provides so(e very use'ul in'or(ation on the 'uture o' (obile phone applications
by studying the (obile phone applications develop(ent o' the iPhone The reason 'or choosing
iPhone as an e4a(ple is its huge popularity and the nu(ber o' users it has already gathered in a
short span o' ti(e Its operating syste( contains (ore (obile applications than any other (obile
