WRITER & TRANSLATOR - XHOSA

The writer will report to the Creative Director, and will work closely with the Content and Production
teams to translate English content into Xhosa for training scripts, verify that the presenter delivers
the script correctly to camera and ensure that the final video is correct in terms of presentation,
titles & graphics. The primary function is to deliver scripted content on-time and in-line with clients
project, studio brief and client brand requirements. This will entail communicating and managing
projects including reviewing processes for accuracy and quality. You will be responsible for correctly
translating the clients needs to a variety of media platforms. At all times, you need to maintain
quality standards and a level of translation quality for creative products produced for the client in
the language assigned to you.
Do not apply if you cant translate, write and deliver accurate scripts under pressure or if you like a
routine and predictable work environment!
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Take ownership for translating language specific copy during the creative process
Produce and deliver premium translation of publishable quality
Develop both editorial and conceptual content in multiple media styles and formats
Reviewing and proofreading content
Supervision of script during filming
Act as a language project and quality manager
Manage and maintain the language assets up to the quality standards
Perform review, and quality control tasks related to the product verifying & approving
presenters delivery of the script and approving final edit
Ability to project manage the writing and translation process and meet timelines
Develop/translate language specific copy as required according to business specifications
(marketing, advertising, sales material etc.)
Help the teams workflow process run smoothly and find ways to improve process and
procedures
Improve efficiency, productivity and quality of the writing/translating process
Show initiative to solve quality and deadline issues in a timely manner
Master the following content types and areas of expertise: User assistance, User
interface/website, Voiceover/Subtitles, training, E-learning, Videos, Press, Poster ads, digital


Personal skills and attributes
Excellent command of written and spoken English and Xhosa languages from formal to
colloquial and thorough understanding of grammatical rules and usage
Used to adapting and authoring target text with full local market awareness (cultural, geo-
political, ethnicity etc.)
Ability to interpret a creative brief (along with source text) with fluency in both source and
target language
Excellent translation abilities (creative writing, copywriting, marketing/advertising
translation).
Ability to produce free translations that convey the meaning rather than the words
Deliver a minimum throughput of 250 translated words per hour on average and review 1
000 words per hour
Strong inclination towards education and marketing translation
Detail oriented and intuitive during reviews and during filming, able to catch and correct
small errors within short time frames, while providing detailed feedback and amended
scripts on such corrections to the team involved
Strong conceptual ability
Strong proofreading and fact-checking skills are required
Organised and able to handle several projects concurrently
A tolerance and desire for working and adapting to rapidly changing priorities and directions
Strong inclination towards education
Excellent creative abilities (creative writing, copywriting, marketing/advertising).
Results driven work ethic with high energy and enthusiasm levels
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work to tight deadlines

Qualifications and experience:
Degree in Journalism/Education/Linguistics or Diploma in Copywriting or similar
5 years writing/editing/translating experience
Proven experience writing and working within a creative/production team
Computer literate and internet savvy
Proficiency in MS tools
