ADVANCED MICROPROCESSOR
(CONTROL SYSTEMS)
Time: 3hours Max.Marks:60
Answer any five questions
All questions carry equal marks
- - -
1.a) Draw and explain the timing diagram for read operation in minimum mode of an
8086 processor.
b) Draw the structure of 8086 flag register and explain the function of the flags
with examples.

2.a) Write an 8086 assembly language program to subtract two words, each word
contains four packed BCD digits. The first word is stored in two consecutive
locations with low byte pointed by SI at the offset DIGIT 1, while the second
word is stored in two consecutive locations with low byte pointed by BX at the
offset DIGIT2. Store the result in memory pointed by BX.
b) What is an assembler directive? Explain the following assembler directives.
i) OFFSET ii) DW iii) DD iv) EVEN

3.a) A set of code is reused several times with a separate stack in a program. The
reminder of the program uses another stack segment. Define a macro with the
necessary instructions at the beginning and end of this set of code in order to
switch stacks and then switch back again. Also give the necessary code to define
the two stacks and initially set SS and SP?
b) What is an interrupt? Explain different types of interrupts supported by 8086.

4.a) Explain how the 80386 can address a virtual memory space of 64T bytes when the
physical memory contains only 4Gbytes of memory.
b) Differentiate between paging and segmentation and explain about segmentation.

5.a) Explain TEST and DEBUG features of 80486?
b) Differentiate between the CISC and RISC processors.

6.a) Explain about register windowing and its benefits and also explain how does the
SUN SPARC use the register windowing.
b) Explain the architectural differences between Pentium and Pentium Pro
microprocessors.

7.a) Explain different addressing modes of 8051 microcontroller
b) Assume that 5 BCD data items are stored in RAM location starting at 40H in
8051. Write a program to find the sum of all the numbers. The result must be in
BCD.

8. Write short notes on:
a) Register organization of 8086
b) Interrupt programming of 8086.
