2.a) Solve the 1-D unsteady state heat conduction equation in cylindrical coordinate
system using explicit method and describe the stability condition required.
b) What are different boundary conditions used in solving the heat conduction
equations? Discuss them.

3. Consider steady state heat conduction in a slab of thickness L in which the
energy is generated at a constant rate of Q W/m

4.a) What are different methods used to solve the convection diffusion terms using
finite volume method? Explain the limitations each one with an example.
b) How to solve the source term as a function of temperature? Explain the
implications involved in solving the equation.

5. A fin of cross sectional area 1.75 cm

surface due to natural convection to the surroundings at 25

solution with analytical solution and tabulate both the values.

momentum equations using Vorticity Stream Function method? What are the
disadvantages of this method in determination flow field?
b) What is revised SIMPLE algorithm? Explain their functionality in solving the
fluid flow fields.

7.a) How are Compressible flows treated? Discuss the case of flow through a
converging-diverging nozzle.
b) Using potential flow concepts of Uniform flow, Source flow/sink flow, vortex
flow outline the panel method for evaluating flow over an aerofoil.
