Durga Deore

Durga Deore hails from Nashik, Maharashtra. She is a product of the Eklavya Athletics Academy in Nashik,
Durga Deore, at the young age of 14 has already proved to be a bright prospect for the future. A mid-distance
runner like her compatriot Anjana Thamke, her best performance came in the National School Games in Etava
in February 2013 where she came 2nd in the 400 meter with a timing of 59.4s, and stood first in the 600 meter
category with a time of 135.4s. Durga Deore also came 2nd in the National Cross-Country Championship (3
km) which was held at Balewadi, Pune in 2012.[1] She bagged Gold in the 600 meter event in the U-14
category at the 2012 West Zone Junior Athletic Tournament held in Pune[2] and also in the U-14 All-India
Junior Athletics in Lucknow where she sprinted to the title leaving behind all her rivals by an astounding 50
metres.[3] Durga Deore also won silver medal in the 600 meter race at the 25th National Inter-Zonal Junior
Athletics championships (2013) held in Kochi, Kerala.[4]
Abraham Rajan
Abraham Rajan (born 1958) is a distinguished Indian ex-athlete who is currently a coach with SAI (Sports
Authority of India) and the SDAT(Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu) at the SDAT Jawaharlal
Nehru Stadium facilities. Abraham Rajan won the gold in the 800m at the 1981 Asian Athletics Championships
with a time of 1:50.21.[1] This was the crowning achievement of his athletics career which also included
distinguished performances at the national and collegiate level. His 800m time is still a record for engineering
colleges in Tamil Nadu.
Chand Ram
Chand Ram is a former Indian athlete who won gold medal at 1982 Asian Games at Delhi in 20 kilometre road
walk event. He also represented India at the 1984 Olympics. He was presented the Arjuna Award and the
Padma Shri.
Deena Ram
Deena Ram (born 1964 in Rajasthan state) is a former Indian track and field athlete who specialised in the 3000
meters steeplechase. He won the gold medal at the 1989 Asian Athletics Championships and the silver medal at
Asian Games. He was awarded Arjuna Award in 1990.
He also participated in the steeplechase at the 1991 World Championships. He was coached by Illyas Babar.
Basanta Bahadur Rana
Basanta Bahadur Rana is an Indian athlete who competes in racewalking.[1] He represented India in the 50 km
race walk event event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. His personal best in this event before the
Games was 4:02:13 and he bettered it by clocking a time of 3:56:48, a new national record. Basanta qualified
for the Olympics at the 2012 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Saransk, Russia in May 2012, with a B
qualifying standard. He was trained by the former national record holder Gurdev Singh. He is the first athlete to
represent India in the 50 km race walk event of the Olympics.[2]

He finished 36th in the event by setting a new national record of 3:56:48. By setting this record, Basanta broke
the previous national record of 4:16:22 clocked by his mentor Gurdev Singh who had set it in Hyderabad in
2005.
Gurbachan Singh Randhawa
Gurbachan Singh Randhawa (born 6 June 1939, Nangli, Amritsar) is a former Indian athlete who won a gold
medal at the 1962 Asian Games in decathlon. He participated in the 1960 and 1964 Olympics in 110 hurdles,
high jump and decathlon. He finished fifth in the 110 hurdles at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics with a timing of
14.07 seconds. He was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1961 and with the Padma Shri in 2005.
Vandana Rao
Vandana Rao is a former Indian athlete who represented India in 1984 and 1988 Olympics in 4x400m women
relay race. She was awarded Arjuna award by government of India for her achievements.
Ashis Roy
Ashis Roy (born June 1, 1932) is the first man from India to run 100 marathons.[citation needed] He ran his first
marathon at the age of 52, and completed his 115th Marathon (Mumbai marathon, India) in January 20, 2013 at
the age of 81.[1] This has been published in Limca Book of Records as well "Limca Book of Records".. He is a
cardiologist, and the author of "The Joy of Running". He is currently writing another book "Wonderful Joys of
Running" scheduled to be released in January, 2014.
Hari Shankar Roy
Hari Shankar Roy (born 4 April 1986) is an Indian track and field athlete from West Bengal who specializes in
the high jump. He holds the current Indian record of 2.25 metres (7 ft 4.58 in) set on 28 September 2004 in
Singapore during the Asian All-Stars Athletic Championship.
Gopal Saini
Gopal Saini ( b 1954- ) is a former athlete of India. He still holds national record in men 3000 meter
Steeplechase event established at Tokyo in 1981 with timing of 8.30.88 minutes. He participated in Men's 5000
race at 1980 Olympics.[1]
He hails from Rajasthan. He was conferred Arjuna award in 1981 for his achievements.
