Architecture of Informatica 8.

6
PowerCenter has a service-oriented architecture that provides the ability to
scale services and share resources across multiple machines. High
availability functionality helps minimize service downtime due to unexpected
failures or scheduled maintenance in the PowerCenter environment.
Informatica E! product" #nown as Power Center. Have $ main components%
1. Informatica Integration Services
he Integration &ervice moves data from sources to targets based on
wor'(ow and mapping metadata stored in a repository. )hen a wor'(ow
starts" the Integration &ervice retrieves mapping" wor'(ow" and session
metadata from the repository. It extracts data from the mapping sources and
stores the data in memory while it applies the transformation rules
con*gured in the mapping. he Integration &ervice loads the transformed
data into one or more targets.
)hen you run a wor'(ow" the Integration &ervice process starts and loc's
the wor'(ow" runs the wor'(ow tas's" and starts the process to run
sessions.
he Integration &ervice uses the !oad +alancer to dispatch tas's. he !oad
+alancer dispatches tas's to achieve optimal performance. It may dispatch
tas's to a single node or across the nodes in a grid.
he Integration &ervice can achieve high performance using symmetric
multi-processing systems. It can start and run multiple tas's concurrently. It
can also concurrently process partitions within a single session. )hen you
create multiple partitions within a session" the Integration &ervice creates
multiple database connections to a single source and extracts a separate
range of data for each connection. It also transforms and loads the data in
parallel.
2. Informatica PowerCenter repository
,ll the metadata is stored in repository. Integration services will send re-uest
to repository to get the metadata about wor'(ow" session" mapping" source"
target etc.
he PowerCenter repository resides in a relational database. he repository
stores information re-uired to extract" transform" and load data. It also stores
administrative information such as permissions and privileges for users and
groups that have access to the repository. PowerCenter applications access
the PowerCenter repository through the .epository &ervice.
3. Informatica Client Tool.
/e*ne transformation process" 'nown as mapping. (Designer)
/e*ne run-time properties for a mapping" 'nown as sessions
(Wor!ow "anager)
0onitor execution of sessions (Wor!ow "onitor)
0anage repository" useful for administrators (#epository "anager)
.eport 0etadata ("eta$ata #eporter)
