CLASS : XII MM : 25

General instructions:
a) All questions are compulsory.
b) Question 1 to question 3 carry 1 mark each.
c) Question 4 to 7 carry 2 marks each.
d) Question 8 to 10 carry 3 marks each.
e) Question 11 carries 5 marks.

1. Name the dielectric whose molecules have
a) Non zero dipole moment
b) Zero dipole moment
2. Draw equipotential surfaces and corresponding electric field lines for the following:
a) Single point charge q<0
b) Uniform electric field
3. A charge q is enclosed by a spherical surface of radius R. If the radius is reduced to half,
how would the electric flux through the surface change?
4. A charge of 8mc is located at the origin. Calculate the work done in bringing small
charge of -210
-19
C from a point P(0,0,3 cm) to a point Q(0,4cm,0) via a point
R(0,6cm,9cm).
5. Show that the force on each plate of a II plate capacitor equal to QE, where Q is the
charge on the capacitor, and E is the magnitude of electric field between the plates.
Explain the origin of the factor .
6. Two point charges +10C and +20 C are separated by a distance R in air. If an
additional charge of -8 C is given to each, by what factor does the force between the
charges, change?
7. Two plane sheets of charge densities + and are kept in air as shown in figure. What
are the electric field intensities at points A and B?
A (point A with charge density +)

B(point B with charge density )
8. Show mathematically that the potential on the equatorial line of an electric dipole is zero.
9. Using guasss law show that no electric field intensity exists inside a hollow charged
conductor.
10. Calculate the equivalent capacitance of the combination between the points P and Q as
shown in figure.

11. Draw a schematic sketch of a cyclotron. Explain briefly how it works and how it is used
to accelerate the charged particles.
a) Show that time period of ions in a cyclotron is independent of both the speed and
radius of circular path.
b) What is resonance condition? How is it use to accelerate the charged particles?
