town of Marka in the =ower Shabelle region in an e;ort to assess
li'ing conditions in the area.
This follows ethnic clashes in the last few weeks between two clans
in the area. The conAict has led to the displacement of tho(sands of
ci'ilians who ha'e so(ght shelter in makeshift camps scattered
across the town. The risk of disease and star'ation remains a
concern in these camps. 5(sinesses ha'e also come to a standstill
as a res(lt of the conAict while schools remain closed.
