Saint Michael Parish Mission Statement:
We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions
are faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit our-
selves to be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all
members to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all.

Notes from the Pastor - We welcome to our parishes starting this weekend and throughout the entire
week our Totus Tuus Team. We are blessed with the team of Matthew Zwilling a seminarian studying at Mt.
St. Marys Seminary in Ohio , Brooke Frisch from Wichita studying at Franciscan University of Steuben-
ville, Maggie Wilson from Iola studying at Emporia State University, and Colm Larkin from Salina studying
at the Benedictine College. In case some of you might not be familiar with it yet, Totus Tuus is a Latin
phrase which means totally yours. This is used to refer to the summer Catholic youth program dedicated
to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness,
and Eucharistic worship. I hope and pray that many of our kids in Girard and Arma will avail of this oppor-
tunity this July 13
th
to 18
th
. I hope and pray as well that parents will encourage their children to participate. I
also ask everyone to please include the success of this activity in your prayers. During this week of Totus
Tuus we have masses Monday through Friday at 11:30AM at Saint Michael. So there is no 7AM mass on
Monday and Friday, but we have adoration and no 6:30PM mass on Wednesday. No changes in the schedule
of Masses in Arma. For more details please call Paula Sevart at 620-724-7585, or text to 620-404-9570.
We welcome and congratulate our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist/Holy Communion (EME):
newly commissioned Savanna OToole and Janel Scales for Saint Michael and Fred Bogina for Saint
Joseph; renewing their commission for Saint Michael Nancy Bauer and Teresa Davenport. All of them
attended the EME training at Saint Paul last May 4
th
! Thank you to them and to all our EMEs for offering
their time and talent for this ministry!
More volunteers needed! We are preparing for our PSR classes for this coming school year! We are in
need of at least two more catechists for Saint Michael! We are asking all our parents from both Saint Mi-
chael and Saint Joseph with kids to avail of this opportunity to supplement your kids religious education at
home with our Sunday PSR. Please encourage your kids to attend our PSR classes Wednesdays for Saint
Michael and Sundays in the morning at Saint Joseph. Hopefully well have more kids this year!
I am also calling your attention once more to our Eucharistic Adoration Thursdays 8:30 AM to 3PM at

Totus Tuus
Totus Tuus (Totally Yours) is a fun and energetic parish based summer catechetical
program for both grade school age children and junior and senior high school youth
from Arma and Girard. The program's teachers of college students and a seminarian
are coming to our parish July 12-18th. The team's youthfulness, energy, and ability to
be a witness to their faith make these teachers particularly effective with children and
young people.
The team with be in our parish Sunday-Friday. High School and Junior High youth
will attend 7:30pm-9:45pm Sunday-Thursday.Grade School youth grades 1-6 will
meet Monday-Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm. The program cost is a package of snacks
to share with attendees. All youth in our parish are encouraged to attend. Grade
School youth need to bring a sack lunch every day.
The team also enjoys getting to know the parish and its members. In order to do
this they eat with different families throughout the week and invite the parish to a
potluck dinner on Wednesday July 16th at 5:30. THE ENTIRE PARISH
IS INVITED! The team will be at 'A Meal in His Name' Thursday night.
If you would like to host the team for their evening meal at 5:30pm, or volunteer to
help during the program, you can call Sevart at 620-724-7585, or text to 620-404-
9570.

Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)
Attention Parents and Grandparents: If your youth has completed their sophomore
year of high school, they are invited to the encounter of a lifetime. July 19-21 Satur-
day-Monday there will be a TEC in St. Paul Kansas. Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)
is a 3-day retreat based on the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ. It is a weekend of
spiritual renewal, talks, group discussion, individual reflection and prayer. The week-
end is led by a team of youth and adults, with a priest as spiritual director. It is a fun
retreat for youth, young adults, and adults that work with youth. Throughout the
weekend and in sharing the sacraments, candidates have the opportunity to grow in
their relationship with the Lord and learn more about their Catholic faith. In TEC, you
will experience a fresh, different atmosphere away from home, school and work;
meeting new people from other areas; discovering the God whom you can know and
believe in; reflecting and sharing how you see yourself, your ideas, hopes and dreams.
Several from our parish will be working on the team. You can print the application at
http://catholicdioceseofwichita.org/faith-tec/tec
The retreat is $50.00 if you write on your application that you want the 'David Spe-
cial'. (David Walker is the Youth and Young Adult Program Coordinator for our
Diocese). For more information contact Paula Sevart.

Midwest Catholic Family Conference - Join us for the 15th Midwest Catholic Fami-
ly Conference August 1-3, 2014 in Wichita. Our theme is "Rich in Mercy". The

and Middle School talks as well as Children and Young Adult programs. Each year
thousands of people benefit from the solemn celebration of the Churchs liturgy, the
opportunity for the sacrament of confession, and the conferences given by nationally
known speakers. For many, it gives them the spiritual energy to be a greater witness
to the Catholic faith in their families and communities. Register online:
www.catholicfamilyconference.org or call 316-618-9787. We will be celebrating our
15th Anniversary and have one of our best speaker lineups we have ever had!

Saint Joseph and Fridays 7:30AM to 6PM at Saint Michael! I
thank all our adorers who regularly and faithfully show up at
their scheduled time. Just how important is adoration to our
parish? Not just very important but it is essential! I compare
it with the power generator for electricity. Our Eucharistic
Adoration is our power generator! Prayer is our connection to
God and praying in Eucharistic adoration is power multiplied
many times! While the rest of the world is working or resting
or recreating, you are there in the presence of the Eucharist
praying for them, praying for the world! Isnt that a noble and
lofty ministry? You do not only gain personal spiritual enrich-
ment, you are also showing your love for other people by pray-
ing for them. If you would like to devote a particular time for
any of this Eucharistic Adorations please call us at the parish
office. You may leave your name and your contact number in
case nobody answers. Or just feel free to stop by and pray
anytime during this period and I am sure God will be happy to
welcome your company. Particularly in Arma, there is only
one adorer from 12:30 to 3PM that if the person could not
make it, the adoration will be cut short. Please help us! Lord
Jesus, in the Eucharist pray for us! Amen!
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Julie Cuthbertson
and her family whose father Lyle Casey passed away. Please
include them in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto him O
Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.
God bless you all! Fr. Roger

Church Project Update
We continue to work with our architect and contractor on the reno-
vation plans for our church. These plans to improve our restrooms,
make our church more accessible, and address many maintenance
and improvement projects are nearly complete. The contractor is
getting bids and plans to have them all by the end of July. At that
time we will know the cost of our project and can make our final
determination of how best to proceed. Our goal is to have our pro-
ject completed before our 50
th
jubilee celebration. Please feel free
to ask me, Father Roger or any of our parish council members
about our project.
