The Problem and Its Background

Introduction
In the mid of 1900 is the marked of the new century. People are finding new ways to
develop and change their lifestyle to make their lives easier. For teenagers, attitudes began to
change; perspective, lifestyle and their academic performances. Their progression was the reason
behind on how do they see the world today.
Before the 20
th
century, life is difficult that peoples way of communication was through
writing a letter but nowadays people tend to use mobile phones, emails, and social networking
sites to communicate. Modern Technology can be classified to us as computers, internet,
gadgets- tablets and smart phones. The worlds best renowned smartphone is the iPhone,
designed and marketed by Apple, Inc. it has enhanced software that will surely help us to make
our life much easier. Teenagers, mostly students tend to use this kind of smart phone. However,
the effects of everyday increasing number of teens using this smartphone can affect not only
physically but also mentally, especially to their social and their performance in school.
Modern technology has its own impacts on students lives. From daily live
communications to the chats on the internet and sending messages through their mobile phones,
teenagers have been surrounded by modern technology. Does this kind of gadget have made
student lives easier, and safer? Or this had made their lives more difficult and jeopardize?


Statement of the Problem
The purpose of this study is to show how developing modern technology such as using
this smartphone, the iPhone can affect a teens mind and to their academic performances and also
to give awareness to teenagers and their parents of patronizing this kind of product. We, the
researchers would like to show people the proper ways of application of iPhons.
This study aims to answer the following questions:
What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
A. Age
B. Sex
C. Social Studies
What will be the outcome if most students spend most of their time on the modern
technology advancement such as iPhone?
How does using to this kind of smartphone can affect their:
a. Grades
b. Social life
c. Health
Why do teenagers choose iPhone as their personal mobile phone?

Scope and Limitation
The general idea of this study is to present the effects of technology specifically in
using iPhone to LSCA students. This research will let people know the effects of iPhones to our
respondents. The people who will be participating on this research are:
Male and Female LSCA students
Grade 7 onwards
Ages 13 to 20
iPhone users
This study has a limited number of students who will be selected randomly. It will focus
on the 25 selected students in La Salle College Antipolo. The gender doesnt matter as long
as theyre iPhone users. The researchers dont tend to interfere the respondents social
status in the school.







Significance of the Study
The people who will benefit to this research are the following:
Students. Students who are using iPhone as their personal phone will learn the proper handling
of their phone also the effects of it into their academic performances.
Parents or guardians. For the parents to be aware of the possible outcome if they buy their
children an expensive smartphone like the iPhone regards with its price in the market but its
aftermath to their children.
Future Researchers. Future researchers can use this study as their basis and reference in their
studies about the effects of modern technology specifically in using iPhone.

Foreign Literature
Ahliya (2004) states that people cant imagine their life without technology. The
technology sector has changed and developed many products. Technology is providing many
advantages but it has also some disadvantages. There are several advantages of technology like it
makes our lives easy, especially on the students, teenagers. Computers and internet are providing
information in simplest way, and it has also changed our way of communication.
According to Woegciechouska (2008) the world in which we are living has changed a lot
comparing to the world were our great grandparents were living. All the work, studies and the
rest of the stuff that were doing ourselves have now becomes very different. The use of todays
technology is very important. Most important thing is globalization, for example it made the
world closer in many cases like it did allow the worlds economy to become a single independent
system.
Technology isnt mean to steal any thunder from other advances, but the internet has
changed not only now we communicate also, when, where, and how often.
In accordance to Elsworth (2009), people use technology to communicate with the
outside world, to make new friends, to become informed, and to stay in touch with one another.
Modern technology also improves the quality of life for people with serious medical conditions
and prevents many deaths from occurring. People stayed in long-distance contact with one
another by writing letters. Fortunately, modern technology has improved both the speed and the
ease of long-distance communication, and this one of the good effects of modern technology in
our lives.

Macks notion (2009), technology has a profound impact on education. They have
streamlined the way students learn and provided access to huge amounts of information that were
not as easily accessible before. Despite the benefits that technology and the Internet now confer
upon students all over the world, they do have their shortcomings, too. It is important to
understand that technology should act as a complement to traditional modes of learning and not
simply a replacement.
