was the third time that I had interviewed on the
n a t i o n a l r a d i o l a t e n i g h t t a l k s h o w. T h e i n t e r v i e w e r
was perceptive and to the point, “I’m sorry Lori, I just
d o n ’ t f i n d c h a n n e l e d i n f o r m a t i o n c r e d i b l e. ” Yo u ’ d t h i n k
that I’d be crushed, due to the fact that for the last ten
y e a r s t r a n c e c h a n n e l w o u l d b e s t d e s c r i b e m y c a r e e r. A n d n o w, 1 7
million avid listeners had also heard that their beloved host did
n o t f i n d m y i n f o r m a t i o n b e l i e v a b l e. I u n d e r s t o o d p e r f e c t l y w h y a
remark like this was common; it was a concern that I had heard
m a n y t i m e s b e f o r e. I k e p t q u i e t a n d w a i t e d f o r t h e n e x t c a l l e r ; b u t
my heart burned with the truth. I knew he was wrong. The same
e x p e r i e n c e , t o s o m e e x t e n t h a p p e n e d i n a n o t h e r m e d i a i n t e r v i e w.
I inadvertently used the word ‘channel’ to explain the source of
my information. Immediately I was interrupted. “Oh no, we can’t
use that word, it will incite far too much. Is there another word
t h a t y o u c o u l d u s e ? ” We s e t t l e d o n t h e p h r a s e ‘ m e d i t a t i v e s t a t e.’
Several years ago in a session, Sananda gave an insightful
teaching. He declared, “I have no more divinity than you; and you
have no more than I. What is the difference? The difference is the
experience.” Then his normally calm and balanced state lit up
a n d i n f e r r e d a s t a t e o f s p i r i t u a l e c s t a s y.

Inspiration through spiritual experience is similarly documented

in stories about the 525 BC Indian Prince Siddhartha. The
wealthy son of a king near present day Nepal had been six years
in his constant search for the truth and his body was broken and
weak from constant wandering and the practice of extreme
austerities. Through the aid of local villagers, he began to eat
and slowly his health was regained. When he resumed his
search, he discovered that he had prayed at every shrine and
there was no where left to go. Spirits danced about him as he sat
underneath the Banyan tree and a voice said, “Give it up, it is of
n o u s e. G o b a c k t o t h e p l e a s u r e s y o u h a v e l e f t b e h i n d . ”

knew all their dreamings, yearnings and longings.” 1 His
consciousness ascended to yet another level and there he

A Definition Of Channel
A few traditional definitions of the word channel are:
1) A frequency band wide enough for one-way communication, the exact width of a
channel depending upon the type of transmission involved (as telegraph, telephone,
radio, television, etc.)
2 ) A g r o o v e o r f u r r o w.
3) A route through which anything passes.

like the idea that channeling could be defined as a spiritual groove.Through my
experience I propose yet another definition for a channeler: Spiritual Artist. In the free
flowing and uncharted waters of the superconscious the channel paints an individual
image of an experience with the Divine. Each word becomes a delicate brush stroke;
universal ideas and truths present shadows, light, depth and dimension; and it is
colored with the hues and tones of beliefs and experiences. Joseph Campbell gives the
p o e t o f c o n s c i o u s n e s s t h e h i g h e s t c o m p l i m e n t , “ T h e y c o m e f r o m a n e l i t e e x p e r i e n c e, t h e
experience of people particularly gifted, whose ears are open to the song of the


universe.”5

Shamanism And Native American Culture

Native American cultures understood, valued and respected this state of consciousness.
They knew that it was a talent, a gift. When the Sioux spiritualist Black Elk was nine
y e a r s o l d h e b e c a m e s i c k , p s y c h o l o g i c a l l y. T h e b o y w a s c o m p l e t e l y i m m o b i l i z e d ,
trembled and began to see deities. His parents quickly summoned a shaman. Instead of
casting out the offensive demon; the shaman worked to adapt Black Elk to the deities and
the deities to Black Elk. The nine-year-old boy went on to become a spiritual leader and
p r o p h e t f o r h i s t r i b e. T h e G e r m a n p h i l o s o p h e r F r e i d r i c h N i e t z s c h e o n c e s a i d , “ B e c a r e f u l

cultures from South America to Siberia regarded and valued the talents of the one who

unconscious opens up, and the shaman falls into it.” 6 From my work as a trance
channel, I understand this statement. I’m sure any other channel reading this does too.

Visits And Meetings With Spiritual Te a c h e r s

Many channels report that before their work as a channel begins that they are often
v i s i t e d i n p h y s i c a l f o r m b y t h e i r S p i r i t u a l Te a c h e r s . T h i s w a s t r u e o f H e l e n a B l a v a t s k y,
an incredibly gifted psychic and medium who co-founded The Theosophical Society in
1 8 7 5 . I n a n 1 8 8 7 m e e t i n g s h e s p o k e o f h e r M a s t e r Te a c h e r, “ I m e t h i m f i r s t w h e n I w a s
t w e n t y - i n 1 8 51 . H e w a s i n t h e v e r y p r i m e o f m a n h o o d t h e n . I a m a n o l d w o m a n n o w, b u t
h e h a s n o t a g e d a d a y. ” 9

In 1895 when Alice Bailey was fifteen years old she sat alone on Sunday morning in her
drawing room reading. The door opened and in walked a tall man dressed in European
clothes with a turban on his head. He told the impetuous teenager that there was some
w o r k p l a n n e d f o r h e r t o d o , b u t w o u l d e n t a i l c h a n g i n g h e r d i s p o s i t i o n c o n s i d e r a b l y. S h e
was told, “My future usefulness to Him and to the world was dependent upon how I
h a n d l e d m y s e l f a n d t h e c h a n g e s I c o u l d m a n a g e t o m a k e. ” 10 Tw e n t y y e a r s l a t e r, s h e
reflected on that life changing meeting, “I found that this visitor was the Master Koot
Hoomi, a Master who is very close to the Christ...The real value of this experience is not
t o b e f o u n d i n t h e f a c t t h a t I , a y o u n g g i r l c a l l e d A l i c e L a Tr o b e - B a t e m a n , h a d a n
interview with a Master but in the fact that knowing nothing whatsoever of Their
e x i s t e n c e, I m e t o n e o f T h e m a n d t h a t H e t a l k e d w i t h m e. ” 11 A l i c e B a i l e y w o r k e d f o r o v e r

published 24 books and founded a school based on the teachings that she dictated.

13 years old when a woman appeared to him while he was sitting in the woods on a

m o t h e r b u t t h e n s h e s p o k e i n a p u r e , e t h e r e a l v o i c e , “ Yo u r p r a y e r s h a v e b e e n h e a r d . Te l l
me what you would like most of all, so that I may give it to you.” The young Edgar
replied, “Most of all I would like to be helpful to others, especially to children when they
a r e s i c k . ” 12

person who believed in channeling, in fact I thought it was a bunch of nonsense! I was a
student of spiritual material and invited the Christ Consciousness into my heart. Things
changed after that and I started on a path of spiritual awakening and unfoldment. I
attended spiritual healing and meditation classes; I studied and became a
hypnotherapist. Several psychic friends started to notice that there was a person (in
s p i r i t ) a r o u n d m e a l l o f t h e t i m e. E v i d e n t l y t h e r e w a s a l i g h t , s h a p e d l i k e a t e t r a h e d r o n
a b o u t h i s h e a d . H e c a r r i e d m u c h l i g h t i n c o l o r s o f w h i t e, g o l d a n d p u r p l e . A p s y c h i c
artist drew a picture of the spirit being for me and told me that his name was Bishop. I
t h o u g h t t h a t w a s a n o d d n a m e. S e v e r a l w e e k s l a t e r, a r o u n d 3 a m i n t h e m o r n i n g a l o u d
v o i c e w o k e m e f r o m m y s l e e p , “ I t i s t i m e t o w r i t e. ” I k n e w i t w a s B i s h o p . I w a s s t i l l v e r y
skeptical about this type of information and told him that he would have to wait - but
later that day I dictated my first session with Bishop, it was exactly 13 pages long! A lot
of the information was very new to me and taught me a different
p e r s p e c t i v e. T h e r e w e r e s o m a n y t h i n g s I h a d n o t e v e n t h o u g h t

Learning The Ropes
W h e n I b e g a n t o c h a n n e l , I d i d n ’ t k n o w t h a t I w a s . I t s o u n d s f u n n y t o s a y t h a t n o w, b u t
that was how it started. I had begun meditating in my late teens but it wasn’t until I had
become an Ascended Master student that I recognized several of the Ascended Masters
a s m y S p i r i t u a l Te a c h e r s . O f t e n t h e y w o u l d a p p e a r i n m y m e d i t a t i o n a n d o f f e r
supplemental information to my current studies. This early relationship offered nothing
p r o f o u n d f o r h u m a n i t y, b u t f o r m e t h i s h e l p w a s i m m e n s e l y b e n e f i c i a l , i n s i g h t f u l a n d
broadening. It was very much like a tutor and student. During this time I met a
r e m a r k a b l e w o m a n w h o b e c a m e a n o t h e r t e a c h e r t o m e. L e o n a w a s w e l l v e r s e d i n
metaphysics and taught me past life regression techniques. She would drive twelve miles
out across the Idaho prairie on gravel roads to our remote farm and help get my three
p r e - s c h o o l e r s d o w n f o r t h e i r n a p s . T h e n t h e a f t e r n o o n w a s o u r s ! We ’ d p r a c t i c e t h e
t e c h n i q u e a n d r e g r e s s o n e a n o t h e r. L e o n a w a s a n a v i d j o u r n a l k e e p e r a n d s h e
encouraged me to keep notes of my regressions and of my dreams. I spent an entire year
r e v i e w i n g p a s t l i v e s a n d i n m e d i t a t i o n w i t h t h e h e l p o f m y S p i r i t u a l Te a c h e r s w a s a b l e t o
understand the significance of each lifetime and its relationship to my current life.


A Meeting With Master Saint Germain

in the night from my sleep. The smell of electricity filled the room, much like the air
before a thunderstorm. I sat up. At the foot of my bed stood St. Germain! His aura
crackled with white and violet light. I reached forward to touch him and the form
vanished.

Five years later I attended a metaphysical class on using meditation and alternative
methods to deal with stress. After the class, a group of us were exchanging stories about

remarked, “It sounds like you’re channeling! “When I decided that I could channel
f o r m a l l y, a n d a l l o w a n o t h e r p e r s o n t o b e p r e s e n t w i t h m e I f e l t v e r y e m b a r r a s s e d . I n t h e

someone else would be included in my time with them, and I felt unsure and insecure. The
first couple of sessions were slow and tedious. I was self-conscious and my lack of

sleep. I had been able to do this before with great success. I closed my eyes and focused
my energy and thoughts to the center of my forehead. Soon, thousands of bright lights
were rushing at me, a sign of altered consciousness. In about a minute I lifted my hand,

I o n c e s p e n t a n e n t i r e s u m m e r c h a n n e l i n g w i t h a n e w m o n i t o r. I h a d b e e n e x p e r i m e n t i n g
with ‘sitting up’ for my trance sessions but still found it difficult to achieve the deeper
trance that I was accustomed to. My new monitor encouraged this process and her
h e l p f u l s u p p o r t a l l o w e d m y c h a n n e l i n g t e c h n i q u e t o e x p a n d a n d m a t u r e. O u r s e s s i o n s
were held at her home which was inordinately alive with frequent visitors in and out of
t h e d o o r, p e t s r u n n i n g a n d j u m p i n g , c o n s t a n t t e l e p h o n e r i n g i n g a n d a s h o r t w a v e r a d i o ,
w h i c h w a s o n m o s t o f t h e t i m e. O n e m i g h t t h i n k t h a t t h i s w o u l d b e a d i f f i c u l t e n v i r o n m e n t
to channel in, let alone relax! But it was through these adverse conditions that my new
a b i l i t i e s w e r e e x e r c i s e d a n d s t r e n g t h e n e d . H a r r y, h e r a f f e c t i o n a t e a n d f r i e n d l y d o g ,
l o v e d t h e S p i r i t u a l Te a c h e r s , a n d t h e m o m e n t t h a t t h e y w o u l d e n t e r v i a m y t r a n c e s t a t e,
h e h a d t o s a y h e l l o . H e ’ d r u n o v e r, j u m p o n m e a n d l i c k m y f a c e j a r r i n g m e f r o m m y
trance! The monitor would scold him, I’d adjust myself for another try but often the same
thing would happen again. It didn’t help much to put him outside. He’d bark until he was
let back in. I persevered and soon learned that I could adjust and strengthen my trance
state through many types of interference. This little white dog became my teacher of
f o c u s a n d d i s c i p l i n e - a n i m p o r t a n t p o i n t i n c h a n n e l i n g . A S p i r i t u a l Te a c h e r o n c e s a i d ,

During this time I began to channel for small groups of people. Through this experience I
became acquainted with many new subtleties of energy while channeling. If the energy of
t h e g r o u p w a s h i g h a n d p o s i t i v e, a f t e r t h e s e s s i o n I w o u l d f e e l b a l a n c e d a n d e n e r g e t i c .
But, if there were negative thoughts or feelings, skepticism or doubt, I would often feel
drained and tired. A frequent guest and friend of the monitor was an enormous battery of
energy; I loved for her to sit next to me during these sessions. Her positive energy would
embrace me while I was in trance and afterwards I felt physically regenerated. These
small nuances can make a large difference for a channel.

Monitors can also work long distance. Several years ago I was working on a series of
c h a n n e l e d l e s s o n s f o r m y S p i r i t u a l Te a c h e r. T h e s e l e s s o n s w o u l d b e t e l e p a t h i c a l l y
dictated and written, without the need for tape recorded, voice received information. I
mentioned this to a friend who was also a student of the Ascended Masters and she
v o l u n t e e r e d t o w o r k a s m y m o n i t o r. W h e n I e x p l a i n e d t o h e r t h a t t h e s e s s i o n s w o u l d
begin at 4:30 am every morning, she didn’t hesitate at all, amiably adding, “I’m up
a n y w a y a t t h a t t i m e . ” T h e i n t e r e s t i n g p o i n t i s t h a t s h e l i v e d o v e r 10 0 m i l e s a w a y a n d h e r
monitoring would be done through meditation. One morning I slept in and around 7am
the phone rang. “Where were you?” she exclaimed. At that moment I realized that the
interconnectedness and ONENESS of the channel and monitor could defy physical
proximity and location. Almost every trance channel I know works with a monitor and is

The Different Levels Of Tr a n c e

incredibly high pitch sound and almost simultaneously an internal explosion of light and

you?” Even though I was in a trance state, the feeling jarred me some, and I immediately
reverted back to the normal session style of relaying questions
and answers. After the session my monitor was grinning from
e a r t o e a r. I b e g g e d h i m t o p l a y t h e t a p e b a c k , s o I c o u l d h e a r i t
again. It was unmistakable; my trance work was evolving.

Through the years of working and learning as a channel I have

Throughout my years of working as a channel I have had the opportunity to work at most
of these levels, although my personal preference is voice transmitted material, medium


to light trance.

Te l e p a t h y , Clairvoyance, Clairaudience
In order for a channel to move beyond the five senses three types of ESP must be

a link. I noticed that as my ability to channel improved that the transference of

link between us had become seamless, that is, I didn’t have to go into a trance state to
communicate with them. I feel their presence about and around me all of the time. This

Universal Mind, The Internet Of Consciousness

Mainframe computer servers and the Internet are insightful metaphors to language
interconnectedness, the ONE and Universal Mind. Universal Mind operates like a huge
computer server and while we are all connected to it, the supersenses of a channel can
bring us into greater rapport with its benefits. After a channeled session attendees often
r e p o r t a f e e l i n g o f h i g h e n e r g y, p o s i t i v e a t t i t u d e s , h a p p i n e s s a n d a s e n s e o f l i g h t -
heartedness. It appears that channels not only channel information but are able to

It would appear that our positive future relies upon the Art Of Channeling. Artistic
expression has always been at the center of any revolution and why not choose a
modality that speaks for the subtle and unseen realities and heralds an age of
