"or all of #our iPod needs, visit Powerbookmediccom Pa$e % of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved Introduction: *elcome to the iPod nano Take+Apart manual ,anos are small and fra$ile, so #ou have to handle them with care The inside is prett# much one piece includin$ the lo$ic board, batter# (which is soldered on!, RAM (( or -./!, headphone 0ack, and data port There is one sli$ht difference between the desi$n of the (./ and -./ models The (./ model in the revisions seen so far have a socketed dau$hterboard This allows for eas# replacement of the RAM b# 0ust removin$ a couple of screws The -./ models have the RAM chip soldered directl# to the lo$ic board makin$ it nearl# impossible to chan$e RAM chips without the proper solderin$ e1uipment This manual will show a comparison between the two models a little bit later Pa$e ( of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved Opening the Case: 2t is a $ood idea to stick some tape around the ed$e of the metal back casin$ ri$ht up ne3t to the $roove between the metal back casin$ and the plastic top case 2t is 1uite eas# to slip while #ou are usin$ #our flat tool and scratch the metal case The tape will help shield the case from most accidental slips The best place to start is wherever #ou feel most comfortable 2t is recommended to not start near the headphone 0ack, hold button, and data port The trick is findin$ a tool flat enou$h to be able to slide between the cases such as the iPod Take Apart tool available on the Powerbookmediccom website Pa$e 4 of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved 2f #ou have an e3tremel# flat screwdriver, small putt# knife, 3+acto blade, those seem to work best 5ometimes it is $ood to slip one tool in between the cases to $et some room and use another flat tool so #ou have more of a $ap to work with *ork #our wa# around $entl# pr#in$ up until the top case pops off 6on7t remove the back case with force or #ou ma# break some vital internals 8ou should now have the back case removed There aren7t an# cables connected to the back case 8ou can now see the back of the lo$ic board Pa$e - of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved Removing the Logic Board: (previous steps re1uired9 :penin$ the &ase! The first step is to dislod$e the batter# 2t is held on b# some adhesive alon$ the sides ;ust use #our flat tool and $entl# pr# up on the batter# until it comes loose :nce it is unstuck, #ou should be able to 0ust flip the batter# out /e careful with the wires on the batter# The# are soldered onto the lo$ic board 2f #ou pull to hard #ou could rip the cables and have to resolder Pa$e < of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved There are four screws that need to be removed on the lo$ic board There are three near the s#nc port and headphone 0ack The# ma# be covered with a sticker or tape The fourth screw is near the middle of the board from top to bottom 2t ma# also be covered b# a sticker or tape :nce those four screws are removed, #ou can be$in $entl# liftin$ the lo$ic board /e aware, there are some connections on the underside that can be easil# torn Pa$e ) of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved The picture above shows the clickwheel cable 2t is held on b# a connector to the lo$ic board The first step is to flip up the black piece on the opposite side of where the cable is $oin$ into the lo$ic board This will unlock the connector so #ou can pull the cable out 8ou should now be able to remove the front case from the lo$ic board Pa$e = of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved 6isconnectin$ the >&6 is the same wa# #ou disconnected the previous cable "lip up the black lockin$ mechanism, and $entl# pull the cable out 8ou should now have the >&6 freed At this point #ou should be done with the disassembl# unless #ou have a (./ iPod nano The# have one more removable piece Pa$e ? of %% &op#ri$ht ' (00) Powerbookmediccom All ri$hts reserved Removing the RAM module: (previous steps re1uires9 :penin$ the &ase, Removin$ the >o$ic /oard!
