A Call For Justice

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this letter on behalf of the victim as he is physically and psychologically unable to do
so at the moment and I cannot not in my right mind believe that any of these three individuals could
possibly be set free on bail considering the circumstances. To grant bail to any of these three individuals
is an absolute insult to the Toronto Police Service, the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital and the general
public. How is there any justice to be found in the decision to grant freedom to individuals who conspire
and then confess to committing violent crimes? For whom does our justice system represent and
protect? The precedent being set here is that as a citizen of Canada I can plan not once but twice to
murder and rob an innocent person, using an illegal gun with illegal ammunition, fire it in a public place
and endanger the lives of many and then be set free on bail within a month. Why should these
individuals get to enjoy the comfort of home when the victim and his family have not enjoyed a good
night sleep or enjoyed the comforts of home for over a month and will not be able to do so for a very
long time, possibly ever again. If this is what our justice system represents then its needs as much or
more reform as these three individuals require.
Guns dont murder people, people murder people or in this case conspire to attempt to murder
and rob people, which is just as severe of a crime. If it wasnt for the outstanding hard work of the
Toronto EMS and numerous staff at Sunnybrook Hospital, this very well would have been a case of
murder not attempted murder, take a look at the medical records if you beg to differ. If it wasnt for the
quick response of the Toronto Police Service, the individuals that committed these crimes(yes crimes
because they are faced with over a dozen charges) would still be free to commit more crimes on more
innocent people and their families, possibly yours, until eventually caught. Now they have been caught,
even admitted to the crimes and the justice system chooses to set them free on bail? To set any of the
three individuals involved in these crimes free on bail is to disgrace everyone that helped to achieve
justice in this incident. The Toronto Police Service whom arrested these individuals, the staff of the
Toronto EMS and the staff at Sunnybrook hospital all of whom helped save a life.
As we have seen in so many other cases in which such crimes are committed no one is brought
to justice, namely those that murdered a teacher and severely injured two others. Yet in our case the
Toronto Police Services quick and diligent work resulted in the apprehension of the three suspects and
the courts chose to set them free on bail. What type of message is the justice system choosing to send
to the youth, the public and the hard working police officers who risk their lives every day and night by
setting the individuals whom have committed such violent crimes (as per their confessions) free on bail
to possibly hurt or murder other innocent people? Maybe next time, it will touch your life and someone
you know or love will be preyed upon by such mindless violent individuals. Then and only then will you
be able to justify to me that they deserve freedom and I firmly believe you would not be of that opinion.
Their community pleads for the violence to stop and then pulls together and begs for the courts
mercy to free the same people who are to blame for the violence they wish to cease. What about my
community? There is not one person in my community, a mother, a brother, a wife, a son, a daughter, a
pastor, a teacher whomever it may be that would agree with the courts decision to grant bail. We did
not attend the bail hearings and do not plan to as we have too many other important issues to address
at the moment but this does not mean that we do not or should not have a voice or an opinion in the
matter. We expected the justice system to perform this duty for us. If more public support is needed I
will gladly get the support in the form of a signed petition or a public outcry for justice in my community.
I did not act up until this point because I firmly believed that our justice system would perform its due
diligence for everyones sake. This is no longer the case.
You dont have to be the one that pulls the trigger to be part of the conspiracy, a premeditated
conspiracy at that. This was not a spur of the moment plan or decision it was at least a month in the
making. The first botched ambush was a couple weeks earlier with a crowbar and the individuals were
not caught. Does this mean that they did not commit a crime even though none of them have previous
records? Seeing as the first attempt was unsuccessful, the second premeditated ambush was re-planned
with a gun, a restricted, illegal loaded firearm, obtained for the purpose of shooting, killing and robbing
someone which as we all know was acted upon for the second time on June 19
th
. All three individuals
chose to play a part in the crimes that were committed, not once but twice. All three individuals planned
and conspired together not once but twice and thankfully did not succeed either time. How much more
evidence along with a confession from the individuals does the justice system need to prove that this
was not one random act but two planned attempts to commit armed robbery and murder amongst
numerous other charges?
What type of message is sent to the public about our justice system when three people not once
but twice plan and commit violent crimes and are granted freedom? Where is the victims freedom? He
has no freedom at the moment and has not for the past month as hes been stuck fighting for his life in a
hospital bed. Will he ever have the same freedom he once had? For the rest of his life he will now have
to struggle and suffer both physically and psychologically for the freedom he once had. Will he ever feel
that justice has been served for the violent and premeditated conspiracy that he was unwilling a part of?
What crime did he commit to lose his privilege of freedom other than going to work to provide for his
family? He hasnt got his freedom back yet. Why should these three individuals be granted theirs?
I am appalled as are many that our justice system the same system hard working Canadians fund
could even fathom giving these three individuals their freedom and I beg you with all my heart to please
do the right thing, fight for justice and hold these people accountable for the numerous crimes they
have committed and confessed to, otherwise the cycle will continue because the wrong message is
being sent. A message that says our justice system will enable, not disable those that commit violent
crimes to have their freedom.
Freedom is a privilege not a right and these three individuals have proven that they do not
deserve the privilege and although none of the accused had no previous criminal record this does not
mean that they had not committed previous crimes as proven by the incident that occurred a couple
weeks earlier with a crowbar, it just means that up until now they had not been caught and brought to
justice. Do not believe their desperate pleas for mercy. Believe in the facts, the fact that these crimes
were attempted not once but twice and would have been committed again if they were not caught.
We all want the violence to stop and a big part in helping stop the violence is the justice
systems responsibility to govern, uphold and protect the rights and freedoms of the public and the
innocent individuals not the individuals that commit violent crimes. In order to help stop the violence
the justice system needs to send the correct message, a just message to everyone that chooses to
commit such atrocities. That message being that you will lose your rights, have no freedoms and have no
privileges when you choose to commit such violent heinous crimes.
Please help in the fight to restore justice, please help the victims of violence feel safe once again
and get the peace they deserve. Please help to reverse the decision to grant bail for the three accused
and help in setting a new precedent that does not enable the three accused individuals or any other
individuals for that matter to have the opportunity to commit more crimes by setting them loose upon
society once again. Please stand in my familys shoes, especially the victims if only for a second and try
to imagine that this atrocity happened to one of your family members and I am convinced that you
would feel the same. These three individuals have proven that this was premeditated not once but twice
and that they are more than willing and capable of planning and committing numerous crimes again and
again. Unfortunately the justice system has given them the freedom and opportunity to choose to do it
again, thus the blood is on its hands and the responsibility weighing on its shoulders. Please take a
stand and help serve justice as it is meant to be served. If this letter is not enough, please let me know
what else must be done in order to uphold justice. I will gladly do whatever it takes.

With all due respect,

The family of the victim.
