Objectives
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Learn how to wrap text around an image. Use paragraph styles in
InDesign
Process
I set up an offset brochure in Adobe InDesign. I used ruler guides to indicate where the fold was going to be and where
the pages would overlap. After my pages were set up, I started to create my design. I began by creating my original logo
in Adobe Illustrator. I chose to make a typography based logo. I found a font on the internet that I wanted to use. Then
with the direct select tool, I was able to manipulate the letters to look how I wanted them to.
Once my logo was fnished, I started designing the pages in InDesign. I inserted my logo, made text boxes and searched
for appropriate images. I made my images black and white to match with my color scheme.
For the clipped image of the kettlebell, I used the elliptical marquee tool. I didnt want to directly crop out the kettlebell
from the background because I thought it would get lost against the black background of my brochure. After clipping
the image and making color, contrast and brightness adjustments, I inserted my image into InDesign then proceeded
to create a text wrap around it. I used the text wrap tool and chose alpha channel then made a few spacing
adjustments.
After inserting my images, I used the paragraph styles tool to create cohesion throughout my brochure. I chose to have
larger headings in red to stand out against the smaller white body copy.

Objectives
Create a new logo to ft a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Used the basic tools of Adobe Ilustrator.
Process
First, I created a new 8.5 x 11 document in Adobe Illustrator. The I began designing. I began by creating the orange
bar across the bottom to match the business card. I used the eyedropper tool to make sure the orange was the same. I
then copied and pasted the h from my card design. I chose to make the h gray, the same gray as the background of
the card, instead of black because I felt the black and orange would look too much like Halloween on the letterhead.
After I pasted the h I began playing with the size to see what looked best. I then inserted the name of the company and
messed around with the placement. Upon settling for its current position, I fgured out where I wanted to place the contact
information. I decided upon the very bottom so as to not clutter the top of the page. I thought it ft well at the bottom
inside the orange stripe.

Create a new logo to ft a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for business card and letterhead. Use
basic tools of Adobe Illustrator.
Process
I started by creating new 3.5 x 2 documents in Illustrator. I then began creating new logo. I knew I wanted the h to be
prominent so I used the direct select tool to manipulate it. I tried this with a couple different fonts before I settled on the
one I liked best. I designed the front frst and then designed the back. I chose colors and fonts that to me were masculing
and modern as this I was designing this for my dads company.

Objectives
Create a variety of logos to ft a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Adobe Illustrator.
Process
The frst step in my creation process was sketching. After spending some time getting some ideas on paper, I looked back
over and decided on three to start designing in Adobe Illustrator. I began by manipulating an A, adjusting the stroke and
angle, then using the pen tool, I made the A look like a fsh. I then inserted that A into the copy of the logo. The second
logo is a typography logo. I searched the internet to fnd a couple of fonts that I thought would work well together. Then I
used the direct select tool to manipulate the text in Illustrator. In the third logo, I used shapes and the pen tool to create
a fsh. I then rotated the fsh, cut it in half and inserted my type into the middle of the fsh.

Objectives
Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take an image and then download it. Size and crop the image.
Adjust the contrast, brightness, levels, and saturation. Use the pen tool to create design elements using the chosen color
scheme. Included color swatches.
Process
I began my project by frst selecting a color scheme from my Visual FOCUS book for my layout, I chose complementary.
I went and captured an image using good focus, lighting and composition. I used a Canon Rebel XSI camera. I then
opened my image in Photoshop and executed four different edits: Levels, Vibrance, Color Select, and Sharpen. Then I
designed an 8.5 x 11 poster in Photoshop that included my photograph, text and repeating design elements. Because
my image was of fruits and vegetables, when I designed, I created curved lines for a more organic design. I watched
a tutorial online on the pen tool, then used it to create the shapes at the bottom. For my color swatches, I used vector
strawberries and changed their color to be consistent with my design color scheme. For my text, I went online and found a
font resembling the blentec font on the blender jar to create cohesion. Now my poster has the fow I envisioned.

Objectives
Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly using masks. Apply appropriate typography.
Process
I frst found my images on the internet. Using Photoshop, I created a new 11 x 8.5 document. I placed an image of brown
leather, changing its size and color. I then placed the image of the old gentleman smiling. I changed its size, then made a
few basic adjustments including contrast and levels. Then I added a mask on top of the image and used the paintbrush
tool to blend him into the background. I changed the opacity of the brush to varying levels to allow him to blend
properly. Then I added a shape to put my text on top of. I changed the opacity of the shape to allow the text to stand
out and not get lost in the background. Lastly, I added the quote that I found on the internet.

Objectives
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a webpage. Write content to describe the process of creating my
logo and how it appeals to my target audience. Design a webpage using HTML to display logo and content. Aquire a
working knowledge of HTML and a basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple fles
into a zipped folder to attach as one fle.
Process
I created this webpage using Notepad++. I have never had any experience with HTML or CSS. It was interesting to me
that a web page can be created in such a simple text editing program. I used an online HTML and CSS validator which
was valuable. It was great to have a way to check to make sure what I had written was going to work.
After I marked all my content and inserted my image logo into my HTML, I attached a pre-made CSS document. Using the
eyedropper tool in Photoshop, I was able to fnd the HEX values for the different colors in my logo to then insert into my
CSS to change the font and background colors to match. I then changed my fonts to Times New Roman and Verdana.
I also added a couple other backup font options in case the computer viewing the webpage didnt have these fonts. I
also changed the width of my border, centered my logo, and added an image for the background of my page.

Objectives
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic fier
layout. Create a project folder with image, logo, text and InDesign document to keep links intact.
Process
I began with making numerous sketches. From those, I chose one, and began making a draft in Adobe InDesign.
I decided that the most important thing to emphasize was that this was a leadership conference which led me to
choose to use the word leadership as the biggest word on the fier. I then chose an image which I believed to portray
leadership. I wanted those two things to be the most eye catching, so I made the text box and body copy small. I left
ample white space to create good fow. The content, image and logo were all provided for this fier.
