ABSTRACT
In next generation wireless communication system
high data rates, better quality of service and higher
network capacity is required by many applications.
The combination of MIMO with OFDM is a solution
to achieve above objectives for next generation
network operating in frequency selective fading
environment. The AMUD MIMO-OFDM system
employs adaptive receivers to achieve better
performance in computational complexity ,bit error
rate(BER) and capacity.AMUD MIMO-OFDM
perform better compared to non-adaptive MIMO-
OFDM at low SNR.In this paper simulation results are
obtained for SISO-OFDM,MIMO-OFDM and AMUD
MIMO-OFDM for 2*2,3*3 and 4*4 antennas. Also
capacity and BER results are obtained for different
antenna configuration and different modulation
techniques for SISO-OFDM, MIMO-OFDM and
AMUD MIMO-OFDM.The simulation results shows
that AMUD MIMO-OFDM performs better when
compared to SISO-OFDM and MIMO-OFDM in terms
of BER AND SNR.

1. INTRODUCTION
As MIMO-OFDM system offers high spectral
efficiency, high data rates, improve link reliability and
superior tolerance to multipath fading, increased
diversity gain or enhance system capacity. MIMO
channels increase system capacity. In OFDM, the
entire channel is divided into many narrow parallel sub
channels or sub carriers. In OFDM FFT is used to
transmit data in parallel over a large number of
orthogonal subcarriers. Throughput and capacity can
be improved when multiple antennas are applied to
transmitter and receiver side in frequency selective
fading channels. Multiuser detection method side steps
the need for high precision power control in mobile
communication method. Thus an increase in the
complexity of the base stations enables a reduction in
the complexity of the mobile transmitters.AMUD
designed for total elimination of MAI in the system by
demodulation of digitally modulated signals. The
AMUD MIMO-OFDM technique has good
performance in terms of BER, SNR and capacity in
Rayleigh channel. By doing AMUD in mobile
communication one can easily get network wherever
he goes because of regular handover. By using
multiuser detection in MIMO-OFDM channel capacity
increase due to orthogonally property of OFDM.Also
it mitigates the effect of multiple access interference.
In OFDM system, Doppler shift caused frequency shift
which results in ICI that degrades the BER
performance of system greatly. Similarly, MIMO-
OFDM is also sensitive to Doppler shift which causes
ICI.To reduce the effect of ICI adaptive filters are used
in this scheme. .

3. CHANNEL CAPACITY
MIMO system consist of multiple transmit and receive
antenna.MIMO channel capacity increases linearly
with the no. of transmit antennas, provided that no. of
receive antenna is equal to no. of transmit antennas
.Assume M RX and N TX antennas. The expression
for MIMO capacity in bits/sec/Hz is given by
C =log2 [Im + (/)HH] b/s/hz
Where C is system capacity. H is the M * N channel
matrix, Im denotes the identity matrix of size M and is

the average signal to-noise ratio(SNR) at each receiver
branch.
The elements of H are complex Gaussian with zero
mean and unit variance. OFDM ensures a narrowband
channel by splitting the wideband channel into N
parallel sub-channels. Each sub channel is orthogonal
to the others and lies on a different subcarrier. In
OFDM the capacity formula for MIMO-OFDM is
given by the expression

estimate of the capacity. / is SNR.The capacity
