CLASS OVERVIEW: In this year-long course, students study different genres of
novels, short stories, drama, poetry, and nonfiction; selections represent different
world cultures. Students are expected to function as independent learners and
responsible group members who can successfully assess their own and others
work.

Grading standards are demanding, and separated in three categories of equal
weight:
Work ethic - participation, preparedness, home work, cooperation
Formative - quizzes, reading checks, in-class work
Summative - tests, projects, presentations, and unit tests

The final category counts as only 1% of the nine weeks grade
Enrichment - extra assignments, extra reading, extra-ordinary
contributions to the class

GRADES: All English instructors will use the Boyle County High
School grading scale. Plagiarized work will receive a 0.
A 90-100
B 80-90
C 70-80
F below 70

The final exam is an end-of-course (EOC) exam prepared by
Quality Core, a subsidiary of ACT. Those students who have
consistently earned a low C and fail the EOC will not earn
ENG II credit.
