Make arrangements to use the shop computer or another school computer as determined by your instructor. Obtain a vehicle service history from your instructor. This may consist of receipts for previous service, a journal of maintenance and repairs performed, or another type of service record. 2. Read the vehicle service history and answer the following questions. Has the vehicle been properly maintained? Complete a Work Order Note You will be asked to ll out additional work orders for other jobs in this manual. 1. Obtain a shop work order from your instructor. 2. Enter todays date in the proper space on the work order. 3. Enter the customers name and address in the proper work order spaces. If the vehicle is a shop unit, enter the name and address of your school. 4. Record phone number(s) where the customer may be reached. If the vehicle is a shop unit, use the school phone number or create a number. 5. In the proper spaces on the work order, record information about the vehicle, including the following: Make. Model. Year. Mileage. 6. Enter the vehicles VIN in the proper space on the work order. 7. In the proper work order spaces, record the customer complaint(s) or other relevant customer remarks. Be brief but record all necessary information. 8. Record any vehicle service history that may help with diagnosis. When repairs are complete, list the following in the appropriate work order spaces: Cause of the vehicle problem. Corrections made (repairs or adjustments performed). Parts installed and their price. 10. Add the part prices and write the total in the parts total space on the work order. 11. Determine the total labor time of the above operations and write it in the appropriate space on the work order. 12. Multiply the total labor time by the labor rate for your area and write the total in the labor price space on the work order. Your instructor may furnish a labor rate to use. 13. If necessary, add the cost of shop supplies such as lubricants and shop towels in the appropriate space on the work order. 14. Add the parts, labor, and shop supply totals and write this amount in the proper space. 15. Calculate the sales tax: Determine the sales tax rate for your area. Multiply the parts, labor, and shop supply total by the tax rate to obtain the tax. 16. Add the tax to the parts and labor total and enter this total in the proper space on the work order. 17. Make other remarks on the work order as necessary. Examples of other remarks are the need for additional work or fasteners that must be retorqued after several use cycles. 18.
