BACKGROUND

UQ Business School is the largest school in a research-intensive university. The School is located on the St Lucia campus with a staff of approximately 110 academic lecturers; 50 equivalent tutors; and 45 professional staff. UQ Business School also has a facility in the Brisbane CBD at Central Plaza One where it offers core postgraduate courses and executive education.
The School has six main areas of academic strength, represented by discipline clusters accounting and accountability; business information systems; finance; management; marketing; and strategy. A professor reporting to the Head of School leads each cluster. Currently, the School has over 5,600 students enrolled in its programs: over 4,200 at undergraduate level; 1,300 at postgraduate coursework level; and around 90 in research higher degree programs. One-fifth of the student body are international students, mostly from the Asia-Pacific region.

DUTY STATEMENT
Primary Purpose of Position
To develop, implement and refine strategies and coordinate activities to build an active and engaged domestic alumni community within Australia. To provide assistance to the Marketing & Communications Manager as appropriate.
Duties
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Alumni Development/Engagement Work in consultation with the Marketing & Communications Manager and other key stakeholders to develop and periodically evaluate a domestic alumni development plan, incorporating strategies to recruit, engage and retain alumni and build stronger industry links. Initiate and coordinate ongoing alumni recruitment campaigns within Australia, promoting a collegiate/cohort culture, targeting both current students and graduates, in particular working closely with the MBA cohort Responsible for establishing and coordinating specific domestic alumni networks and, in liaison with the relevant staff, manage databases as required. Undertake domestic travel as necessary to achieve these goals. Establish links and liaise with the BEL Facultys Alumni and External Relations Team and the UQ Development Office to provide assistance in developing the Facultys international alumni cohort. Work with the Schools Marketing Team to design alumni contact management protocols and establish processes, systems and tools for improving alumni data quality. Adhere to Advancement protocols and processes for updating alumni data and ensuring data quality is maintained. Develop relevant and timely alumni communications, including quarterly e-Newsletters, welcome communications, event invitations and design feedback surveys. Work closely with members of the Marketing team and the Careers and Recruitment Centre on joint projects
Financial Management In consultation with the Schools Marketing & Communications Manager prepare an annual alumni budget to fund relevant initiatives and events. Monitor income and expenditure quarterly, or review more often as necessary, and provide advice to the Marketing & Communications Manager on action required to ensure acceptable end-of-year outcomes.
Alumni Event/Campaign Management Work with the Marketing and Events Officer and Marketing and Events Coordinator to undertake event management and coordination in relation to domestic alumni, including organising School-initiated networking events, seminars, signature farewell events, and regional and interstate events. Represent the School at Alumni Association committee meetings and events and provide strategic advice and facilitation for committee initiatives. Initiate promotional campaigns to encourage alumni participation in relevant School programs and activities (e.g. corporate education, Enterprize, guest lecturing, mentoring etc.). Identify industry contacts and build key relationships, facilitating sponsorship opportunities and partnerships with UQ Business School
Alumni Resources Development Develop value-adding resources and services for alumni. Update and maintain the dedicated UQ Business School alumni website, contributing to content for the Career Zone, School News and Events sections, as well as identifying and profiling alumni for the In Conversation With section Build the profile of UQ Business School alumni within their community and the broader business community Work with central UQ Advancement and the BEL Faculty to ensure coordination and alignment on events and activities.
MBA Marketing Initiatives Update and maintain the dedicated MBA Profiles website, sending out communications to current students, designing surveys and editing profiles for web Coordination and project management of other MBA related marketing initiatives, such as webinars and other web resources, MBA student events and guest lectures Attend various School events, such as information evenings and orientations to discuss services (including alumni) for MBA cohort Project manage the annual handbook review, sourcing new content such as profile information, school projects etc. Attend meetings/presentations specific to the MBA program as a representative of the School
Other Marketing Projects Project manage adhoc tasks as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager as necessary, including video production, updates to collateral or other projects.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications Completion of an appropriate tertiary qualification (preferably in marketing, communications or a related discipline), with subsequent relevant experience; OR Extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in marketing and/or communication; OR An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Experience Experience in a tertiary education institution, including a minimum of three years in an area related to alumni development/financial management and/or market research, or experience in a customer relationship management or customer segment management role. High level of computer proficiency and practical understanding of computer applications in relation to word processing, data storage and retrieval, database management, and spreadsheets. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing staff to achieve desired outcomes.
Knowledge/Skills Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated organisational/time management/project management skills. Broad knowledge of marketing in a higher education environment. Ability to liaise effectively with a variety of government and professional groups, private and public organisations.
Personal Qualities Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. A strong orientation to the provision of a high level of customer service. Ability to set own priorities, monitor work processes, meet regular deadlines, initiate and take follow up action.
