WHAT IS A MASTERS DEGREE FROM A UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES? A Masters degree from a university of applied sciences is based on the combination of a Bachelors degree and a mini- mum of 3 years of relevant work experience. It is intended for practitioners in working life, who wish to deepen and broaden their professional skills. A Masters degree programme is ideal for persons preparing to take on a managerial role. The extent of the degree is 90 cr (ECTS) and the programme can be completed in 24 years, combined with employment. The education is web-based but also includes lectures, workshops and seminars. Exactly where this Masters degree will take me I dont know. It might mean that I will stay with my current employer and get new fresh ideas that make me better at what I do, which in turn leads to me getting new tasks and responsibilities. The scope of the Masters degree programmes in Media Management and International Business Manage- ment is 90 ECTS. They are run as part-time studies, which allow you to study alongside work. It takes you 23 years to complete either degree. The courses are taught entirely in English and comprise scheduled lectures, workshops, seminars and independent studies. Scheduled tuition takes place mainly after 4 p.m. on weekdays and between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays. About 25 % of the degree programmes consists of scheduled tuition in class with 75 % conducted as independent studies. Arcada is the rst University of Applied Sciences in Finland to launch a Masters degree programme in English with a focus on the Nordic business environment. If you or your employer views the Nordic market as an interesting opportunity for personal or busi- ness growth, then this degree is what you are looking for. The Nordic business environment is a natural context for Finnish companies to either start or develop their international business activities. The graduate programme in Media Management at Arcada is intended for persons who wish to deepen their knowledge, skills, and competence in order to manage creative companies within the content industries. The programme prepares students for predict- ing market trends and industrial development, and for applying this knowledge to develop business and content concepts as well as business operations. Furthermore, a graduate from the programme is capable of creating new knowledge for market actors and public authorities operating within the content industries. The study plan allows the student to tailor the programme to suit her/his individual needs based on previous study and work experience. For instance, a student with a bachelors degree in business administration will have the possibility to replace business courses with studies in media production.
