Activating Double Power TRX for 2G BTS
1 Activating Double Power TRX for 2G BTS
Purpose
This procedure describes how Double Power TRX for 2G BTS is activated in the BSC.
Double Power TRX for 2G BTS can only be used with Flexi EDGE BTS with EP2 soft-
ware.
Double Power TRX for 2G BTS is licence-based application software product, which
requires a TRX capacity based licence. For more information on licences, see Overview
of Licensing in BSC under Install and upgrade/Software in the PDF view.
Before you start
As a precondition 2G BTS needs to be created and EP2 software attached and acti-
vated.
Steps
1 Check that the licence covering Double Power TRX for 2G BTS has been installed
(W7I).
ZW7I:LIC,FULL:LIC=<licence code>;
For instructions, seeInstalling licences in the network element in Install and
upgrade/Software in the pdf view.
2 Check the Double Power TRX for 2G BTS feature state (W7I).
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=834;
3 Turn the Double Power TRX for 2G BTS feature state ON if needed (W7M).
ZW7M:FEA=834:ON;
4 Check the value of RX diversity (EQO).
ZEQO:BTS=<BTS identification>:ALL;
In the printout you can check the value of RDIV parameter.
5 Set RX diversity on in the BTS (EQM) if needed.
The value of RX diversity must be Y. If it is already set go to the next step.
ZEQM:BTS=<BTS identification>:RDIV=Y;.
6 When modifying Dual TRX usage of an existing TRX lock the TRX (ERS) or BTS
(EQS).
ZERS:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX identification>:L;
ZEQS:BTS=<BTS identification>:L;
If you are creating a TRX there is no need to lock the BTS.

7 Define dual TRX usage (ERM or ERC).
With dual TRX usage parameter you can enable the Double Power TRX (DPTRX) or
Intelligent Downlink Diversity (IDD) feature for the dual TRX unit. You can also define 2-
way (2UD) or 4-way (4UD) uplink diversity. Double Power TRX and IDD enabled TRX
reserves two TRX IDs. It can be enabled if the TRX ID number is odd and the next even
TRX ID number is not used.
To define dual TRX usage when creating a TRX:
ZERC:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX
identification>::DTRX=<dual TRX usage>;
To define dual TRX usage when modifying an existing TRX:
ZERM:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX
identification>::DTRX=<dual TRX usage>;
When creating a TRX the default value is disabled.
The possible values are:
0 (Disabled)
1 (DPTRX with 2UD diversity)
2 (DPTRX with 4UD diversity)
3 (IDD TRX with 2UD diversity)
4 (IDD TRX with 4UD diversity)
8 Define preferred BCCH TRXs (ERM) if needed.
In a BTS where there are TRXs with parameter dual TRX usage (DTRX) enabled
and TRXs where it is disabled, it is recommended that all TRXs that have the same
dual TRX usage (DTRX) value as the BCCH TRX, are marked as preferred BCCH
TRXs.
ZERM:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX identification>:PREF=P;
9 Unlock the TRX (ERS) or BTS (EQS).
ZERS:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX identification>:U;
ZEQS:BTS=<BTS identification>:U;
10 Test the activation
Expected outcome
Calls are connected.
BSC is up and running.
The used parameter values are correct. To check this, print the parameters with
EQO, ERO, or EEI commands.
No alarms are triggered.

Deactivating Double Power TRX for 2G BTS
2 Deactivating Double Power TRX for 2G BTS
Purpose
This procedure describes how Double Power TRX for 2G BTS is deactivated.
Steps
1 Lock the TRX (ERS) or BTS (EQS).
ZERS:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX identification>:L;
ZEQS:BTS=<BTS identification>:L;
2 Disable dual TRX usage (ERM).
ZERM:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX identification>::DTRX=0;
Parameter value 0 disables the Double Power TRX (DPTRX) and Intelligent Downlink
Diversity (IDD).
3 Unlock the TRX (ERS) or BTS (EQS).
ZERS:BTS=<BTS identification>,TRX=<TRX identification>:U;
ZEQS:BTS=<BTS identification>:U;
4 Turn the Double Power TRX for 2G BTS feature state OFF (W7M).
ZW7M:FEA=834:OFF;
5 Test the deactivation
Expected outcome
Calls are connected.
BSC is up and running.
The used parameter values are correct. To check this, print the parameters with
EQO, ERO, or EEI commands.
No alarms are triggered.
