TECHNOLOGY
SUNGDONG Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering builds highly efcient, eco-friendly ships through con-
stant technological innovations. By using a conveyor belt systemthat extends fromengineering, process-
ing, assembling and automated hull processing to the building slip on land, it has established a 'FlowPro-
duction System' where the sheet metal is transformed into a completed ship.
Fluid Study
Todevelopeco-friendly ships, SUNGDONGfocuses onfuid-relatedstud-
ies such as hull shape, thrusters and steering performance. By building
highly-efcient, high-performance ships based on the outcome of these
studies, SUNGDONGis satisfyingthe strict demands of shipowners.
Structure Study
To secure structural stability of the ship and optimize its design,
SUNGDONG conducts various structural analysis and stress analysis
procedures to ensure the ships lifespan and its compliance to strict
safety regulations.
SUNGDONGShipbuilding&Marine Engineeringis the worlds only shipyardthat uses on-landshipbuildingas its primary shipbuild-
ing method, and it possesses the facilities and technologies to build every type of ship fromhandy size-class to ofshore plants.
Automatic Lettering Robot, 'GENI'
SUNGDONGis improvingthequality of ships by researchingandde-
velopingweldingtechnologies, whichare consideredthe essence of
the shipbuilding industry. Also, it has invented an automatic digital
welding robot GENI, which automatically creates letters on the bow
and stern of a ship to ofer the highest quality ships.
Network Digital Welding System
The Networked Digital Welding System is the key system in build-
ing any ship which allows the administrator to control the welding
systemdigitally and remotely fromthe ofce. This original technol-
ogy, developed by SUNGDONG, allows even beginners to complete
high-quality welding.

Side-shifting
Side-shifting is a method for loading a ship which has been built at a
location other than the assembly yard onto a skid rail and launching
the skip. Since the hull does not have to be completed on the skid
rail, it increases the overall usage of the skid rails. By allowing more
efcient and faster shipbuilding, it contributes to the circulation rate
of the yard and quality of the ships.
Self Driving Bogie System
The Self Driving Bogie Systemmakes it possible to launch a ship on
its own without the help of other equipment by installing hydraulic
motors and decelerators on the bogie train. In addition to dramati-
cally reducing the launching time of ships, it is an innovative system
that makes it possible to build large containerships and ofshore
plants on land.
Push-pull System
The Push-pull Systemis a crucial component in the GTS. It transports
the heavy load safely and quickly by using rail clamps and hydraulic
cylinders minimizing abrasion.
GTS(Gripper-jacks Translift System)
GTS(Gripper-jacks Translift System) is designed for transporting the
ship to the ocean once it is fnished on land, and it applies equal
amount of force throughout the ship to launch the ship safely. The
GTS is SUNGDONG's original technology that is patented in Korea,
China, Japan andVietnam.
Energy Saving System(Mewis Duct)
Recovers the pressure between the hull and ducts, converts it
into propelling force, and improves the fow feld that acts on
the propeller blades.
Propeller Design Optimization System
Maximizes energy efciency based on ship-optimized high-
efciency, low-vibration, and low-noise propeller.
Ballast Water Treatment System
Purifes the ballast water - which is used to balance the ship to
ensure optimal speeds and efciency - before discharge thereby
protecting marine eco systems.
Hull Form Design Technology
SUNGDONG develops optimal hull structures suitable
for vessel operation regions and purposes to produce
higher speeds at less required horse power.
