NOTES
G E N E S I S WOR S H I P T R A D I T I ON A L WOR S H I P
Virtually every Sunday we begin worship with someone
bringing the Bible down the center aisle, holding it high
above their head giving us a visual picture of the place
of Gods word in our worship. The Scriptures lead us to
the Savior. They are Gods own words in black and white,
in our own language. What we do and say in worship is
based on Gods word; it is our foundation of knowledge,
hence the prominent visual representation. Through His
word, the Holy Spirit speaks to us. We dont worship the
Book, but rather the One the Book proclaims. Following
the Scriptures down the aisle is the cross. Here is another
visual symbol reminding us that we come to the Father via
the cross. It is Gods giving of His Son, Jesus on the cross,
that even allows us to enter the presence of God, always
keeping in mind that we dont invite God to our worship
service, but rather that He invites us into His presence.
The entrance and presence of these two symbols in our
worship each week help to enable us to re-tune our lives
and perspectives as we gather for worship week-by-
week. - Dr. Dan Sharp

*Passing of the Peace
St. Paul always greeted with the words, The peace of God be
with you. This is an appropriate way to greet fellow brothers
and sisters in Christ, and so we say, The peace of the Lord be
with you and respond, And also with you. We then pass this
greeting of peace to one another. At the passing of the peace
we should earnestly desire Gods peace upon each person we
greet.

RECYCLE YOUR BULLETIN
8:30am & 9:45am worshipers can help the church be better
stewards of our resources and environment by placing this
worship bulletin in one of our recycling stations as you leave
today.
There are two right outside the Sanctuary: one in the Grand
Hallway leading to the Edington Ministry Center, and one
across from the entrance to the Prayer Room. If youre in Lee
Fellowship Hall, look for one to the right of the exit as you
leave.
The bulletins are reused for the 11:00am worship
service, and recycled on Monday morning.
WELCOME!
FOUR12 (formerly the After School Outreach
Ministry) began at First Pres in the 1990s. What
began as a ministry for middle school students,
now serves students in middle school, high
school, college and the workforce!
Our heart at FOUR12 has always been for students to
be leaders NOW. 1 Timothy 4:12 encourages young
people to set an example in speech, life, love, faith
and purity, and we equip our youth to do just that.
As God has generously broadened and deepened our
ministry, He is now calling us to move it too. Therefore,
we will soon be relocating to the Mercy Drive Corridor.
This strategic move allows us to be in the community
we serve and also provide a continuum of care.
By partnering with the Mercy Drive Achievers Club,
together we will be able to impact students from
kindergarten to college!
FOUR12 After School Program begins Monday, August
25 at 3pm.
WAYS TO BE INVOLVED
DONATE snack & paper goods, school supplies,
and gift cards.
SPONSOR snacks for a week, a kid to go to camp,
a student retreat... and more!
VOLUNTEER to tutor weekly, be a guest speaker
on career days, or share your testimony at our
bible study.
