3.2 Functions of Components and Units

(1) Device Loading Section Devices are supplied by one storing cassette of wafer sheets.
Storing capacity of cassette: 25 wafer sheets
Operator sets one storing cassette of 8 inches wafer sheets at the
loading position.

One wafer sheet is withdrawn from the cassette, carried to the loader
table, turned 90 degrees clockwise and transferred to the sorting site.
Then, the succeeding wafer sheet proceeds up to the loader table and
stands by there.
When the sorting of all the devices on the proceeding wafer sheet
completes, the wafer sheet returns to the upper slot of the loader table.
After transferring the succeeding wafer sheet to the sorting site, the
proceeding wafer sheet is turned 90 degrees counterclockwise and
re-stored into the cassette.
Repeats the above consecutive operations to supply devices to the
sorting site. When the wafer sheet is turned 90 degrees clockwise, the
barcode reader reads the barcode marked on the wafer ring.

HANDLER 3572-PK

(2) XY Table XY Table holds the wafer sheet rigidly not to cause position deviation.
Based on the Map File Data given by the picker, XY Table carries out
compensation of X-Y position against the device pick up position.
Also, it is possible to take newly the image data of device leads at each
3 corners of the device plates on the wafer ring using the own vision
system and manage it as the Map File Data.

(3) Sorting Site In accordance with the sort designation controlled by the Map
System, the picker sorts each device to tray, tube or tape.
When each device is picked up, plural needles (push up pins) push the
device to float and the nozzles of the reverse unit suck the devices one
by one.

The nozzles sucking the devices turn 180 degrees clockwise and
transfer the devices to the sorting arm. The devices sucked on the
nozzles of the sorting arm transferred to the designated position after
carrying out q compensation.
When all the devices on the wafer sheet are sorted completely, the
wafer sheet returns to the loader table site.

4.3 Vision Functions
4.3.1 Theta Rough Alignment Function
4.3.1.1 Outline
This function supports model image registration (Pre Align 1, 2, 3, 4 and Top, Right, Left, Bottom) which is
performed in camera1 when a new device parameter is created. Normally, at the time of model image
registration for PreAlign1,2,3, 4, and Top, Right, Left, Bottom, after correcting a plate inclination using a
handy terminal, it must register, but since this function corrects automatically before registration, it becomes
easy to register.

4.3.1.2 Necessary condition
If the following two conditions are applicable, this function is performed automatically.

Condition 1 Pre Alignment is enabled.

4.3.3 Plate alignment
4.3.3.1 Plate alignment software
A. Summary :

1 Function to measure a plate position by 4 corner devices
(1) This software enables to measure a plate position by detecting 4 corners of panel. Even corner device
is missing on the panel, calculating devices around the corner, detect the corner device position and
plate location.

Example 1 - In case there are all 4 corner devices
Check the position of (1) ,(2) ,(3) then calculate position of panel.

Example 3 One corner device, and some of devices around the corner device is missing.
Check the position of (1), (2), (3) then calculate the position of panel.

(2) Reference search function
In case there is edge-frame, utilize both edge-frame search + plate alignment
to calculate the plate position.
When edge-frame is easily peeled off, plate alignment function is substitured for
edge-frame search.
When re-sorting, as there are not so many devices remained, it is difficult to
calculate 3 corners. in such a case, for example, top-right corner can be calculated by edge-frame and
left-bottom can be done by plate alignment.
as a combination of two functions.

(3) Anti-miss-sort by comparison of
To implement to confirm the distance of plate.
By function of (1), auto calculation of plate position of is improved.
However, re-sorting without edge-frame will raise risk of miss-sorting.
In order to avoid such a risk, comparison function will be implemented.
The compassion function is to compare before/after result of plate location data with
current data and in case the data is too far from device parameter, it is regarded as
plate alignment error.

In case there is no device to be
checked by first search, shifting
and do second search, then
calculate the position of corner.
The search will be done Max.3

B. Purpose :
This software is made to support plate without edge-frame such as CSP, UCSP or UTCSP.
Normally plate location is calculated by pre-alignment function, using edge-frame.
The function enables to measure the corner location even in case there is missing corner device

C. Remark :
If there is any other functions / options not stated here, the function is mutually discussed, clarified,

CONSTRUCTION
(1) Auto Loader
After checking the existence of the ring in a ring cassette, and the position of device/ring
(by mapping), this picker takes out a ring one by one and supplies them to a stage.
The bar code reader for ring ID is equipped.

(2) XY-stage
This XY-stage consists of a ring clamper mechanism (with a rotary- mechanism) in which
a wafer ring is held, and a XY stage.
(a) XY stroke : 250 mm
(b) -axis : 360-degree rotation is possible.
(c) No extended function

(3) Ejection Unit
After checking the position of the devices at XY-stage, vacuums a sheet from back side of
a sheet, and pushes up a device by the ejector-needle.
(a) Ejection unit performs the position control by the motor.
(b) The ejector needle and the transfer nozzle are made synchronous control of the position
by the motor.

(4) Transfer Arm
This machine equips two arms perform (pickup arm/reverse units & sorting arm
respectively) alternately. The device on the wafer sheet is picked up by vacuum function.
After the device is reversed upside down, transfer arm transports the device to the sorting
site.
(a) [4 nozzles/1 head / arm] x 2 (arms) (Total : 8 nozzles)
(b) There is buffer ability in each nozzle.
(c) The rubber chip is used.

(5) Sorting Arm
The sorting arm picks up the carried device from the transfer arm, and sorts it to the sorting
site.
(a) The Sorting Arm section consists of four independent vacuums circuits and one Z-axis.
(b) There is a head with four nozzles united with the taping pitch. An operator exchanges a
head subject to different taping pitch manually.
(c) The Sorting Arm section equips the independent one-piece picking collet.
(d) The rubber chip is used.

(6) Taping Site
The device are carried into embossed tape, sealed by heat pressing, them rolled up to the
reel.
(a) Sprocket type feed mechanism.
(b) Thermo-compression bonding type of seal mechanism.

7-5

(c) Conversion corresponds by minimum parts exchange.
(d) In order to put four devices simultaneously into emboss tape properly, the accuracy of
emboss pitch is absolutely required.
(Refer to the specification and the drawing of taping.)
(e) Taping direction & Device postures:
Taping direction & Device posture in emboss tape are as LAYOUT (Page 9), that
marked surface is up.

(7) Bin Storing
(a) A device is dropped in a bin.

(8) Device Alignment Camera site
The camera section captures the image of the device on ring, and acquires the position
information.
When there is no map file, checks four corners of the plate and calculates the alignment
position of a device. (This checking time is not included ring changeover time.)
(a) Accuracy: 20 m or less (based on the magnification of a lens)
(b) In the case where there is no device on a sheet, or in the picture acquisition can not be
performed, the cycle time may be affected since a device is searched with the shift action
based on the number of specification.

(9) Visual Inspection at Sorting Site
The device direction is detected by checking the mark on device.
(a) Number of inspection character: Max. 20 characters
(When the device pickup cycle is 1.4 s/4 pcs, it becomes 1 character only.)
(b) Creation of an error file (about ten pictures)

VISION FUNCTION
(1) Plate Alignment
When Map file is not available, no location data of 4 corners of each plate on a wafer sheet,
the device positions are automatically calculated by the optical method.
(a) Alignment accuracy : Not more than 20 m
(b) When 3 corners out of 4 corners are detected, the device positions are calculated.
(c) In the case of no image detection, (in the case of no device on a wafer sheet), the next
device is searched after the table shifts in the specified times.
(d) One camera corresponds to the plate alignment mode.

(2) Device Alignment
(a) Device alignment ensures the device position on the wafer ring, including existence of the
devices. Alignment accuracy : Not more than 20 m
(b) Moreover, since it becomes consecutive processing, takes in the position information for
four sheets.

(3) Pad visual inspection
The camera for detecting the device alignment checks the pads # and space of each device
pasted on a wafer sheet.

OTHERS
(1) Ring Supply / Re-sorting
Interfacing with the ring loader, rings are automatically supplied and re-sorted.
