Session 7 / Option A Presentation Presenter: Elizabeth Marsden MA VIC Who left the tap running? Environmental practice in Museums Everyone agrees that sustainability is important but some things are common sense while others seem too hard. With this in mind Museums Australia (Victoria) surveyed Victorian museums to measure the current level of environmentally responsible practice.
This paper explores the surveys findings and contextualises the Victorian experience and the ways in which organisations, large and small, professional and volunteer, are making meaningful contributions to sustainability within the limits of their resources. It will be shown that while motivations range from the practical to the ideological, the end result is a variety of organisations acting on the belief that museums have a responsibility to their community to develop more environmentally sustainable practice. But where do we go from here?
Session 7 / Option B Practical Workshop Presenter: Patrick Watt Museum Theatre 101 Its not a new idea yet using performance within cultural venues still seems to be a rare thing. Come along to hear about how easy it can be to bring your collection to life.

Wet Showcasing the works of Glen Clarke This exhibition showcases the works of contemporary Australian artist Glen Clarke and celebrates our planet and our humanity. With water as our most treasured resource, the exhibition examines our home, Earth, our future, and more importantly our environmental responsibility and theories of climate change, carbon footprints and sustainability. This work takes its motivation from recent global climatic events and thereby addresses concepts of vulnerability, uncertainty and personal holocausts, i.e. cyclone, flood, earthquake, tsunami and bushfire.
First Flight The Albury and District Historical Society have constructed a life-size replica of the Robbins and Porter monoplane to be hung from the LibraryMuseum ceiling. An exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia including the original flat-four engine will be on show, and kids and adults alike will enjoy a computer simulation of the original Robbins and Porter flight.
From the Earth to the Cosmos From long exposure star trails taken on everyday cameras through to astrophotography of distant nebula and galaxies taken with high end observatory equipment, the Astronomical Society of Albury-Wodonga members have captured it all.
