4.

0 FINDING AND DISSCUSSION






4.1 Data Finding

Based on the data obtained, we had analysis that what Impacts do Smartphone
generally bring to your lifecycle. We bring up with 3 options which were Positive impacts,
Negative impacts and both for the equal impacts. The highest nomination when to the Both
impacts(44%), following with Negative impacts( 35%) and Positive impacts
(21%).Because the highest nomination when to the negative impacts, we proceed the next
question for the reason of option based on negative impacts.

Figure 1 shows the impacts do Smartphone generally bring to student lifestyle.
According to the chart, the percentage of both impact to Smartphone which is 44%
followed by negative impacts which is 35 % while positive impacts is 21%.



This research has been evaluated based on the questionnaire that we have
analyzed as below the interrupt your original lifestyle has declared as the highest option.
46% has given the feedback for this option.

From this study of the questionnaire report, the higher percentage for agree
nominated to interrupt your original lifestyle impact which is 85%. While disagree higher
percentage nominated to Smartphone can cause distraction on study impact which is 20%.



Based on the table, from the total of 100%, 39% students agree on the options
given.Followed by, 43% students strongly agree with the option. On the other hand, only
16% students disagree with the suggestion given. And 2% students strongly disagree with
the suggestion given.




4.4 Interrupt Your Original Lifestyle


Firstly, Interrupt your original lifestyle was been the highest option selected
by the candidates which are 85%.

Nowadays, student always adapt to Smartphone. They are too busy with existing
applications in smart phones, causing them to fail in their daily lifestyle. Before this,
students are active in group study and research in libraries which nowadays we hardly see
them in library. This is because of modern lifestyle whereby information is in fingertips.

Overdependence upon the Smartphone is an easy rut to fall into. Since the device can do
anything and everything, after all, why bother using anything else? This is an unhealthy
way to consider the technology available to us; it makes us as people less independent and
increasingly reliant on a technology that could fail at any time. (Source: Tam News Staff

4.5 Side-Effect To Human Body

For the second of analysis is Side-effect to human body has an equal result with
the Lack of Communication which is 82%, the second highest nomination.

Mobile phone use electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range and people
believe that this may be harmful to the health of human being. The side effects from the
Smartphone cant concentrate in class. The radiation from the Smartphone will cause the
body's immune system is unhealthy. Student reading text, messaging, or browsing the
internet on their Smartphone tend to hold the device closer to the eyes and strain to much.
This will result in dry eyes, discomfort and blurred vision after prolonged used.

Dr. Matt Gardiner, an ophthalmologist at Mass. Eye and Ear said in a report that most of
the time people blink about 15 times per minute. But when using smartphones, that rate
drops by half, causing dry eyes. Additionally, Gardiner says that peoples shoulder and
neck muscles tense up, face muscles contort, and headaches set in as they stare at tiny
screens for a prolonged amount of time.(source by: Boston magazine, 2011)




4.6 Distraction On Study


For the third of analysis is Smartphone can cause distraction on study. This option
took the lowest percentages which was 81%.

Smartphone can easily get our attention and distract us. The distraction will lower
student productivity and take their time and also lower the quality of the work.

Students spent less time on sleeping due to the distractions from the Smartphone.
They might need to complete work overnight which they should be able to finish with the
time spending on the Smartphone previously. Also, chatting with friends with the
convenient texting functions makes their sleep time even late.

Based on analysis, Smartphone will increase or decreased our GPA in university. Overall
conclusion, Smartphone leads high frequency to lower GPA. According to the international
telecommunication union (ITU), mobile devices usage has grown at on amazingly fast rate
in past 10 years. While land-line phone subscription have been declining since 2006. In
fact, mobile-broad subscriptions have increase almost 5 fold since 2007. (Source : ITU
Aggregate Data).




4.7 For the fourth of analysis is Lack of communication. As I had told before, it has the equal
number of percentage with the Side Effect to the Human Body which was 82%.





Students do not communicate as much orally and become antisocial. Students do not
concentrate in class. Students become addicted to the phone and dependable. The style of
communication between students has change where they are not meeting face to face often.
They are more interested in communicating with their electronic devices and the student
especially, spent their time texting, poring over their apps, watching TV shows or playing
computer games.

Smartphones can be the culprit of communication breakdown among student Jovell
Alingod a Project Manager for e Reflect also agree that Smartphone can sustain the
relationship among students as they only choose to communicate impersonally and drives
the specious moment with friends.
5.0 CONCLUSION





The research investigated the impact of Smartphone among University Technology
Malaysia Space students. Primary data were obtained from randomly distributing online
questionnaires to 60 respondents.

As mentioned in the introduction, the objective of the study was to identify the impact of
Smartphone for UTM Space students and also to investigate why UTM Space students
addicted to Smartphone. The data was collected and compiled to find out the reason for
this research.

Based on the data obtained, the study has shown that most of the respondents understood
the impact of Smartphone for the daily lifestyle. One of the significant findings which
emerge from this research is the higher percentage for negative impact of Smartphone it is
because of the interruption from modern lifestyle. The other side-effect is dangerously to
our health, it is following by distraction while study and lastly the lack of communication
among students.




On the other hand, we can conclude that Smartphone has both positive and negative effect
to the students. It also clearly shows that this research suggest that students need to be
more responsible to their life style. However, the findings of the research cannot be
generalized to other objective because of the limitations that we have while finding the
data.



6.0 RECOMMENDATIONS





Based on the findings and conclusion of the study, here are some recommendations to be
considered for our research:




6.1 Recommendations Based on Findings


Firstly, it is recommended that students should be more responsibility in their lifestyle tries
to spend their free time with friends and family without phone in hand.


For students who wish to success in their exam, need to change their altitude. They need to
focus in classes. Try to switch off the Smartphone or any gadget during the lesson.


Some of department in university has been conduct many activities. So it is recommended
to take part in the other activities such as reading, competition or any activity to avoid
students become closer to the phone.



6.2 Future Research Recommendation





Since this study had only focused on University Technology Malaysia (UTM SPACE
Penang) students, it is recommended that further research to be carried out on students
from other universities as results may differ and compare the differences or similarities.
This research may be the referral of others to understand the impact of use Smartphones in
their lives either positively or negatively. Lastly, government can organize a campaign
about the effects of Smartphone in Social Life to make people aware of the importance of
life without technology.
