TFTV Resources Guide

A quick guide to the most useful databases for TFTV, all of which are accessed via the Online
Resources for TFTV tab at subjectguides.york.ac.uk/tftv.


For Interactive Media and Production / Postproduction students >>
Science Direct and particularly Web of Science, along with JSTOR, are the most useful sites for
the scientists.

For Film & TV Students needing academic analysis >>
JSTOR is the most comprehensive resource; Project MUSE can be relevant and Web of Science
also has a significant amount in its Radio Film TV category.

For Film & TV Students needing primary sources (film etc) >>
See the Video section on the right of the Online Resources for TFTV page for more primary
sources. Of these the main one is American Film Scripts Online, which contains over 1,000
copyrighted screen plays unavailable anywhere else online. Screen Online is also useful; it has
film clips, theatre clips, production stills, etc.

For Theatre students needing academic analysis >>
JSTOR is probably the most useful thing to start with, and Project MUSE can be relevant.
Literature Criticism Online - Drama Criticism and Cambridge Companions Online: Literature
and Classics also worth looking at.

For Theatre students needing primary sources >>
Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) has Theatre-related materials, and the East
London Theatre Archive has very location-specific resources.

For all types of TFTV students needing to read the TRADE PRESS >>
For industry happenings we have the trade press the most important are Variety, the Stage,
Broadcast, and Screen International, all of which are available via International Index to
Performing Arts Full Text (ProQuest).

For newspaper reviews Nexis UK is useful, as are the other Newspaper resources.

Film Index International provides indexing and biographies for films.
