YAY! OUR FIRST TIMED WRITING!
First thing, lets check out the prompt that you are responding to:

The passage below is an excerpt from What Are People For? By Wendell Berry. Read the passage
carefully. Then write an essay in which you support, refute, or qualify Berrys argument. Use
appropriate evidence to develop your position.

down any thing
that leads to
understanding
the message.
This means you have to decide whether
you agree with the writers message (Yep!
You betcha!) disagree (No way!), or
conditionally agree (well, this could be true
if )
This means you can start with
examples from the text, but your
evidence should be pulled life
experiences that your audience
would understand..
This means you are writing an argument
you are trying to persuade me to believe
the same thing you do.
This is all the time you have. Dont waste
any of it.
SOME GREAT TIPS!
You can bring up events in your personal life
that relate to the question, but you will make a
better impression on the graders if you can draw
relevant connections to current events in order
to make your case.
Their argument needed to move forward; they
couldn't just make one little point and assume
they were developing it by adding six redundant
illustrations.

These are common mistakes made in descriptive writing, check your writing for these possible errors:
Use a comma between coordinate adjectives that are not joined by and.
Kaiden was a confident, skilled pianist.
You can tell if you need a comma because they can be switched and it still makes sense: Kaiden was a skilled, confident pianist.
Do not use commas between cumulative adjectives.
Two frightened brown eyes peered at us from under the sofa.
You wouldnt write frightened two brown eyes.
Use a hyphen to connect two words that work together as an adjective before a noun.
Well-used book
Perfect-fitting shoes
Foil-wrapped pizza
Use a comma before a coordinating conjunction when joining two independent clauses.
I love writing descriptive papers, but they seem out of place when they are not integrated into a full essay.
