ABSTRACT

The micro phones we are using are not sufficient to hear remote sounds such as bird
twittering. We can also listen to our television set at a very low volume, avoiding bothering
about relatives and neighbors. We can hear to foreign speakers, cricket commentary etc.
with increased clarity and audibility. Even if we have a faultless hearing, we may discover
unexpected sounds using this device. This is very useful for forest researches.

The heart of the circuit is a constant-volume control amplifier. All the signals
picked-up by the microphone are amplified at a constant level of about 1 Volt peak to peak.
In this manner very low amplitude audio signals are highly amplified and high amplitude
ones are limited. This operation is accomplished by Q3, modifying the bias of Q1 (hence its
AC gain) by means of R2.A noteworthy feature of this circuit is 1.5V battery operation.
Typical current drawing: 7.5mA.The potentiometer is useful to change the constant level of
amplification.

This circuit is connected to 32 Ohm impedance mini-earphones using a stereo output
jock socket. Using suitable miniature components, this circuit can be enclosed in a very
small box, provided by a clip and hanged on one's clothes or slipped into a pocket. The
Amplified Ear is so sensitive that he can hear a whisper 7 meters across the room.

1. INTRODUCTION

Whens the last time you stepped outside your door and really listened to all that
noise out there? There are birds, traffic noises, maybe a cat slinking through the tall grass.
Of course, some of these sounds you can pick up with your own two ears, but others arent
so clear. The micro phones we are using are not sufficient to hear remote sounds such as
bird twittering. We can also listen to our television set at a very low volume, avoiding
bothering about relatives and neighbors. We can hear to foreign speakers, cricket

4. CIRCUIT OPERATION

The circuit is useful to hear remote sounds. The circuit has a micro phone. It acts as
the input to the circuit. The microphone receives all types of sounds around it. There will be
high amplitude signals and low amplitude signals. The microphone receives every type of
signal and fed it to the cascade stage amplifier.
The cascade stage amplifier is constructed with Q1 and Q2 transistors using proper
biasing. The two stage amplifier is useful to improve the input signal amplitude taken from
the microphone. The two stage amplifier provides a high gain and the gain is multiplied with
the amplitude range of input signals there by amplifying the input voices or sounds to
greater extent. The amplified version of the input signal is then fed to a constant volume
control amplifier.
The constant volume control amplifier is constructed with Q3 transistor and a diode.
The constant volume control amplifier amplifies all input signals to a predefined amplitude
range. Input signals with low amplitude or amplified to that level and those with High
amplitude are compressed to that level. This process helps to improve the clarity in the
sounds. The diode, present here makes this possible with its property of unidirectional flow.
There is a feedback path also to improve the process more reliable and accurate. The
potentiometer is useful to change the level of constant volume control amplifier. The typical
level is 1v peak to peak. The output from the constant volume control amplifier is fed to a
power amplifier.
The power amplifier is constructed with Q4 transistor and is useful to drive the 32
ohm impedance mini earphones with the help of stereo jock socket. There is an ON-OFF
switch also for switching the circuit when required only. The main advantage of this circuit
is also includes the usage of 1.5v power supply. With the help of this circuit we can make
the sounds more clear and audible but it doesnt affect the frequency of the input signals.
