Treatment Short five minute film

Product:
We will be producing a short five minute film, predominantly focusing a young
gentleman losing his virginity for the first time, incorporating extracts reflecting on the
comedy genre.
Genre
As a group, we carried out primary research which involved tasks such as creating
brainstorms and gathering data on our chosen topic. We began by discussing
whether we would want our production to be a film or a documentary, finalising that
we would like to produce a five minute comedy film about a young boy named
Joseph losing his virginity with a hooker. We decided to do this topic specifically as
many individuals, both male and female are able to receive information from such an
important topic as this. This is because, many young people do not realise the
importance of losing your virginity for the first time and its purpose and its risks.
Therefore, the actions of losing your virginity for the first time, influenced us as a
group to want to create a film. In addition, by choosing a film, that has a comedy
genre, we thought it would be more interesting as we will have the opportunity to
receive more views due to being rather funny and appealing to our target audience.
As well as this, different individuals across different locations, have different
experiences and perspectives on losing your virginity, providing us with a much more
broad opinion on the subject itself, whilst giving more people the opportunity to relate
to it. Finally, we decided to focus on virginity as it is a topic that not many people
are able to embrace their opinions towards. Therefore, we decided that we would put
ourselves forward to create a comedy film on this to provide our target audience with
a more comfortable feeling towards viewing our media product without anyone
feeling uncomfortable.
However, although creating a film can be more creative and interesting, it can
be challenging as there are a number of factors you have to take in to consideration,
not making the comedy too clich as well as being too repetitive on the topic itself.
As well as this, it is different to a documentary as documentaries arent really based
on comedy/parody as we have seen from analysing the differences. Therefore, we
will need to produce a comedy that not only provides our target audience with
information on virginity but also giving them entertainment and enjoyment.
Target Audience
For our film, our chosen target audience is 15-35, both male and females. This is
because, both sexs are able to relate to such an important topic, as all individuals go
through the experience of relationships through their lifetime without some
understanding the purpose of losing virginities. Therefore, we thought our media
product would influence the young generation to be more careful when getting
themselves into relationships with the opposite sex. We thought we would aim our
product at individuals from 15-35 as most young individuals now days are influenced
by their friends and society therefore, we thought our production would be useful as
it will deliver the perspective of a young man who has never had any sexual relation
with the opposite sex before. This gives us a larger opportunity to aim our film
towards an audience that will understand and feel that they are able to relate. As well
as this, we also discussed the involvement of sexual reference which we knew would
be incorporated, that isnt suitable for young individuals.
Overall, our chosen target audience is most relevant as it is the age in which
people start to acknowledge how to be mature with relationships and dating, as well
as being more mature.
Context
Audiences will be able to access our documentary via channel four, BBC1 and
documentary programmes. Our documentary will also be uploaded on to youtube
and our social media pages.
Mise-en-scene
Our production is a film. Therefore, we will be able to incorporate the four micro
elements; editing, sound, cinematography and mise-en-scene. We will be using a
number of shots whilst portraying our male protagonist (Josephs) experience of
losing his virginity for the first time. For example, extreme close up shots will be used
on items that will reflect on the topic of losing your virginity to emphasize the effects
of the process as well as providing the audience with more of an idea of what is
happening during the scenes. As well as this, diegetic sound will be used through
some scenes to represent emotion of our male protagonist and his views on his
experience of losing his virginity to a hooker for the first time. We will also be using
editing techniques such as cutaway in order to portray the subject of our film whilst
trying to illustrate Josephs experience of his relation with the hooker towards the
audience. We will be showing a few examples of different props during our
production which we will use to emphasise the impact of losing your virginity.
Representation
As we will be producing a film, we will be deliver a specific representation of our
young male protagonist. He will be portrayed with characteristics that countertype
the views of a typical male role towards losing his virginity. Our main aim is to create
a film that will give the audience an idea of the pros and cons of losing your virginity
and if it should be influenced to the next generation. As our media product will be a
film, there will be both a male and female protagonist.
